Located at 1015 Horton Road in Albertville 0505, located at 1015 Horton Road in Albertville. It's time to rise and shine and get your morning started with Alabama's award-winning morning show. Get up, we gotta go to work. What? Why do people work? Do any of you people do any actual work? These are the days when you wish your bed was already made. Broadcasting live from high atop Alabama's beautiful Sand Mountain. I don't like Mondays. Tell me why I don't like Mondays.

Speaker 4:

Tell me why. No, you don't understand how radio works Monday, Monday, so good to me Doesn't normally seem like work, does it it? Sure is Monday hitting it now. It's it for Monday.

Speaker 3:

Let's get to work. Please welcome your hosts. Just another manic Monday. Barry and Holly Wish it was Sunday.

Speaker 1:

Good morning. It's 6.08. It's a beautiful morning. It's going to be a sunny, hot day. Hey, we did have some rain early this morning. I know I know Not everybody. Some places saw rain. I know you're looking at me like I'm speaking a different language.

Speaker 2:

Like you have three heads.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, no. Seriously, when I came in this morning, there was scattered rain. We had a slight chance last night and Talladega had heavy rainfall just for a few minutes this morning. But as you wake up this morning, it's gone and thank you to the rain. It's even more humid than it was before the rain.

Speaker 2:

Oh geez, it's so humid this weekend you could chew the air. We we came up here Saturday because Marshall County Jeep Wranglers came and brought how much dog food Over 1,200 pounds of dog food they brought in.

Speaker 1:

It's so cool to see all the Jeeps pull into the parking lot. Thank you to the Jeep Wrangler Club. They do this every year, bringing at least well over 1,000 pounds every year, and with that we now have 15,404 pounds.

Speaker 1:

Oh, we beat last year, yes so now this is the last week, so you've got to help us make it even bigger, because, as Doug was saying by the way, doug McGee will be with us later this morning talking about our Wolf's Talk promotion but now, with all this dog food, they should be good until at least the end of July without having to buy any more dog food.

Speaker 2:

That's amazing.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's so great and big news we're going to go out there this morning.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we are.

Speaker 1:

We're going to go out there and do a little video, do a little Facebook Live and just show you around. In case you've never been, you don't know exactly what they do, we're going to just talk to Doug possibly Wanda, if she will and just show you some of the beautiful dogs that need to be adopted. Dog food is going. It's Second Chance Shelter in Boaz and this is the final week. This is it, and I believe, if I'm correct on this, second Chance will bring some of their beautiful dogs up here on Friday at the radio station.

Speaker 2:

That's what I'm excited about. That's what I want to see.

Speaker 1:

So, anyway, that's going on. It was a busy weekend because we did that. Then you left and went to the movies with your daughter.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we went and watched Inside Out 2. I definitely see the hype and why everybody was so excited about it. It was a great movie. It was really good.

Speaker 1:

Do you know that in only two weeks, it's now the biggest money-making movie of the year so far? In two weeks, worldwide. Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 2:

Worldwide. It's because it introduces emotions like fear and anxiety, or not fear but embarrassment and anxiety, or if it's just a cute movie.

Speaker 1:

What do you think?

Speaker 2:

So my daughter is going through a lot of these emotions that she's being introduced into, anxiety. She's nine and it's too early, but it's the world we live in today and I think that it's a good conversation starter. But I think you've got to talk to your children and see what's going on with them because, um, this world shows them so much. They see so much online, yeah, so much on the internet, and I think it's important to keep that communication open with your kids.

Speaker 1:

They're introduced to adult things at an earlier age than ever before, so you recommend that movie for anybody with kids.

Speaker 2:

Highly recommend, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

So we'll talk more entertainment news coming up. And it's a big day because we have tickets. We have aquarium tickets Tennessee Aquarium and we have Hydro Fest tickets Hydro Fest coming to Lake Guntersville this weekend and we have your chance to win those tickets also. And yes, everywhere we went this weekend, the big topic was wattles the goose. So we're going to have an update coming up at 7-10, the official word on wattles. So Friday was a great day because a thank you again to Judy with Sneeds Farmhouse who came down, joined us. We went to find wattles on the lake, found wattles and able to rescue wattles away from the lake and take wattles to the vet in Cullman to see what could be done.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and Judy unwrapped several, several feet of fishing line that had been wrapped around his leg. It was awful, it was awful, it was awful.

Speaker 1:

You could just see the pain I mean this thing and the relief almost the relief when we were able to get most of the fishing line off. But it was so tight, uh couldn't do it through there on the spot. So that's why they took it to the vet, because it would have took almost like surgery to get the fishing line that had been on there for so long. It was embedded into its skin.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it had grown into it. His skin had grown over it. It was a mess. It was so bad and you couldn't touch his foot without it profusely bleeding. I'm trying not to get graphic because I know you're probably eating your egg McMuffin right now, so if you are, I'm not going to go deep into it. But you couldn't touch him without him being in excruciating pain.

Speaker 1:

yeah so, anyway, we'll give you the complete, we'll give everybody a chance to wake up and get moving, because I walked into food city and had two people just the minute I walked in there. I asked about waddle. Oh, I know, everywhere you went it was that's the the thing, and it feels good that everybody has they care about this story it does.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think that is. We're all just hoping for the best and we're all just watching for waddles.

Speaker 1:

We just want the best for waddles, the goose yep, so we'll give you all the details coming up around 7 10. But first how do? You know. Things you need to know this morning. Brand new week last week of june monday. Last full week of june, monday, june 24th. Things you need to know this morning. Brand new week Last week of June Monday. Last full week of June, monday, june 24th. What do we need to know today?

Speaker 2:

Today is National Hydration Day.

Speaker 1:

Boy, is it ever?

Speaker 2:

Oh yes.

Speaker 1:

How do you hydrate when you're outside? Is it water? Is it a sport drink? What is it?

Speaker 2:

I hate water so much so I usually have a sweet tea or a Powerade I don't know, I don't know That'll get it done or a wine slushie.

Speaker 1:

I don't know.

Speaker 2:

But anyway, proper hydration is vital. It's vital to live in a healthy life. You have to have it. The top ways to hydrate is water, number one. That is so gross to me and I hate it.

Speaker 1:

I know.

Speaker 2:

And I try so hard to like it. Yeah, but putting the squirt stuff helps, that helps. Yeah, that helps. Number two sports drinks I love Body Armors. I love. Yeah, I've never got into the Prime.

Speaker 1:

I know that that's a real big thing right now is too.

Speaker 2:

Have you tried prom?

Speaker 1:

No, I have not tried prom.

Speaker 2:

Have you seen?

Speaker 1:

it. I've seen it, but I haven't tried it. Okay.

Speaker 2:

And number three is skim and low-fat milk which is disgusting. I never want to have been outside practicing man, I'm so hot. I wish I had a big glass of milk.

Speaker 1:

Well, skim milk now, mind you, not the two percent oh any of it, no it feels like it would like it just get in your stomach and just I don't know sour over clabber and then clabber.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and then the word it is now I think it is. And here's something you need to know yeah, lynn the mom has performed at sea world orlando for 36 years. Did you know that? Wow, yep. But now he says he's been fired after getting into an argument with a security guard. They fired Lynn the mom. Yeah, they did. Witnesses have no idea what Lynn the mom said during the argument, but he probably used the middle finger a lot.

Speaker 1:

I have no idea what he said Lynn the mom, I have no idea what he said that middle finger resed getting it.

Speaker 2:

That's true, though he was 36 years.

Speaker 1:

He was shaking his fist and the middle finger and pointing to his rear end.

Speaker 2:

Oh no, oh yeah. Oh, here's something to think about. I'm moving on. I just found out that the company that produces yardsticks won't be making them any longer.

Speaker 1:

Any longer Good, good okay.

Speaker 2:

And weekends with small children are about as relaxing as taking a shower with cats. Tell me I'm wrong.

Speaker 1:

No, you know firsthand. Oh yes, yeah, it's 616.

Speaker 3:

Mornings with Barry and Hall here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

How about Wild Thing? Have you seen Wild Thing's picture?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I've seen it. I didn't see it until you called it out and I wouldn't have known what Wild Thing was Wild Thing is a dog.

Speaker 1:

Wild Thing has been crowned the world's ugliest dog, and wild thing went five thousand dollars in prize money. It's an eight-year-old piccanese, his owner and lewis, I think, and needs to have a stern talking to because I think, yes, yes, wild thing is not pretty, but I think if she'll at least give it a bath, that would help some I think it's gonna have to be shaved. Start over. Mm-hmm, shave it and start over.

Speaker 2:

Its face resembles like a crumpled paper bag.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, With a piece of chewing gum hanging out of its mouth.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it looks like it doesn't have any teeth, so its tongue is hanging out.

Speaker 1:

Why do some dogs do that, those poor dogs?

Speaker 2:

It looks like he was painted by Picasso.

Speaker 1:

Oh, on a bad day.

Speaker 2:

On a bad day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't know. Usually it's an upset, because usually those what do you say? Your brother has one.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Chinese crested.

Speaker 1:

Those usually win, because those are not pretty.

Speaker 2:

Is that left eye looking up and the right eye?

Speaker 1:

looking straight, I can't tell.

Speaker 2:

Or is it?

Speaker 1:

I don't think it knows.

Speaker 2:

Is it cockeyed?

Speaker 1:

Possibly. I think it is yeah, but this event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique. It's a pretty dog in its own way, but I don't think that I'd want it. Oh, I would, would you.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, I would love it.

Speaker 1:

I would definitely even give it a bath, because look at his hair. Give it a bath, it might have a chance.

Speaker 2:

No, you're judging. You don't know what it's like to have frizzy hair Because you don't have long hair. No, and then this humidity, so Wild Thing, probably was a luscious little treat before he went outside, and then he stepped outside and his hair went haywire.

Speaker 1:

So this all happened in one day.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, probably so when you go to the pool.

Speaker 1:

This is what happens to you.

Speaker 2:

That's what I look like.

Speaker 1:

Ew.

Speaker 2:

That's what my hair looks like, cool.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, goodness Wild thing. I'm glad the morning show comes before you go to the pool. Oh yeah, instead of after.

Speaker 2:

Aren't you glad I don't post pictures.

Speaker 1:

Because you'd have Holly Wild Thing, wild Thing, your new on-air name, if you want to see Wild.

Speaker 2:

Thing. Look at the picture on her Facebook page. Is your brother? You say he has a. My brother has two Chinese Crescent. I've asked him to send me a picture of them because they're so ugly. Why?

Speaker 5:

Why are they ugly? No, why does he have one he loves?

Speaker 2:

them. He loves them because they're ugly, and I think it's because these dogs don't get a lot. I don't know, I wouldn't think so. My niece has one, my brother has two, my niece has one, I don't understand. My mother has one.

Speaker 1:

Your mother.

Speaker 2:

Yes, my whole little family unit each has a Chinese Crescent. Why I don't know. Now, mom's is a puffer puff ball or something. I have no idea it has hair. It's a Chinese Crescent. I have no idea it's a Chinese Crescent. So what you're saying is you would do anything.

Speaker 3:

I would do anything for love. I have no idea.

Speaker 1:

I won't do that but I won't do that. I'll do anything for dogs, but I won't do that dog oh my gosh, that's so mean no, I don't I have dogs right now. If I did, that'd be hard, it would scare me. I think when I woke up in the morning, I mean you imagine waking up and it jumped on the bed and it's sitting on your chest on a treat.

Speaker 2:

I love it. I would love it.

Speaker 1:

I would think I've died and gone the wrong way.

Speaker 2:

Oh no, now my brother's dog don't have any teeth, and so their tongues constantly hang out the side. How does it eat? Well, they just eat soft foods Like little grandpas. Yeah, they just gum it oh gotcha, or a gummy dog Gotcha.

Speaker 1:

Well, if you want to see the World's Ugliest Dog, it's on our Facebook page. It's a wild thing, so check it out. 629.

Speaker 3:

Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country, Giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

Got a little story this morning. We're going inside a restaurant. Okay, there's a restaurant it's a growing trend in St Louis. It's called Bliss Caribbean Restaurant. They don't allow any men under 35 and no women under 30 to eat in the restaurant, they say. According to their post, the rule helps ensure a grown and sexy atmosphere. They claim the policy has been successful and now there's other restaurants following it. They say local business owners believe that older customers buy more food, tend to be more well-behaved and more mature. So 35, why is there an age difference 35 men and 30 women?

Speaker 2:

They're saying that. Do you really need to ask that?

Speaker 1:

That women mature faster than yes. Yes, but five years difference.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, probably more.

Speaker 1:

Okay now, when have you ever gone to a restaurant and saying I wish that would get some of these 35 and under people out of here because it's?

Speaker 2:

killing me. Waffle House about 10 o'clock on a Saturday. Yeah, yeah. When they're throwing hash browns at you, Yep when they've been out at the bar. You know, yeah, and you're just trying to get some breakfast.

Speaker 1:

And they're even carting people to make sure that you're 35 and older If you're a man, 30 and over if you're a woman.

Speaker 2:

Okay, I have weird thoughts about this. Yeah, there's a part of me that got caught up in the part where he called it sexy.

Speaker 1:

That's what they said. They describe it as a sexy atmosphere. It's more relaxed, it's quiet, there's conversations, there's no laughing. You're saying the 35 and over don't laugh. 30 and over for women don't laugh.

Speaker 2:

That's harsh, I agree.

Speaker 1:

You get some who let's say a group of guys, get together. They're having a good time just laughing, talking about the good old days or whatever, and it can get loud. Women too I'm not saying it's just men.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

But I don't think I would keep them out of my restaurant.

Speaker 2:

What's the name of the restaurant?

Speaker 1:

Bliss Caribbean Restaurant. Bliss in St Louis Missouri.

Speaker 2:

So done with Bliss Sexy. I want to go to the sexy list. It's so mature.

Speaker 1:

It's so mature, there's no kids in there, it's only older people like us.

Speaker 2:

I don't know. There's times where I'm like I don't want to see anybody young, I want to just be old.

Speaker 1:

Okay then there's another one. Japanese supermarkets are trying something new. It's called the ultra slow checkout. Now most companies are looking to speed up the checkout process, but one supermarket they have a slow lane. They're testing a lane specifically for the elderly and disabled. Now the line has become popular for a wider portion of customers, not just those who are elderly, because they like the slow pace. They say sales have increased by 10% since testing the slower lane. Customers who use this lane can count their money out. If they have cash, they can help them bag their groceries. They can even chat with the cashier. It gives them a chance just to slow down, relax and have a conversation if they'd like to.

Speaker 2:

I love it If you're not in a hurry. There's going to be other lines that are open that you can go check out.

Speaker 1:

Well, when have you run into a store? You weren't in a hurry. Everybody's in a hurry.

Speaker 2:

Because we live in a hurried age, but there's some people out there that need a little extra time, and that would be me, because I like to talk a lot. I want to know about the cashier's life and what's been going on. Really, what's been going on, carrie?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, they ask you about yours?

Speaker 2:

Did you get the child? Support yeah Did you pick up them, diapers you needed.

Speaker 1:

You know, does it bother you at all when they start looking over the things you're buying and having a conversation about your items?

Speaker 2:

Life in the slow lane.

Speaker 1:

No, that's not going to work. Does it bother you? When you're checking out and you're laying your stuff up there, then they start. Oh so you're having a frozen pizza tonight, are you?

Speaker 2:

I'd be like, yeah, I am. And you know why? Because I have no friends and I work all the time. So you were my one friend. Tonight I'm getting frozen pizza. Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Then they say oh, your stomach's tore up, is it Got some old Pepto-Bismol? Well, that's that time of the month. Okay, got you there. Sure is Got a plunger. You must have stopped that bad boy up.

Speaker 2:

Sure did. You wouldn't believe the stuff that came out. See, I would love it. No, you wouldn't. Yeah, I would. Now, here's the thing I wouldn't like. I wouldn't like sitting in line. Yeah, because I feel like you'd be there for probably an hour and a half you would be.

Speaker 1:

They say you have a 20-minute limit on this.

Speaker 2:

Oh, okay, so it's slow, but it's not unlimited slow, it's not snail pace. You have a time limit.

Speaker 1:

Just take your time and just relax and talk.

Speaker 2:

So what happens when my mom takes longer than 20 minutes? Do they just rush her along? I don't know, does the IA come in?

Speaker 1:

with sunglasses to remove her.

Speaker 2:

I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Does the greeter from up front come over and smack her with the smiley face?

Speaker 2:

Do they start playing the walkout music like they do at the Oscars? I?

Speaker 1:

don't know, they probably have some music. Let me know I'm trying to find it to me. I like it.

Speaker 2:

All right, that's when it's not here in the us I like it yeah but every lane's a slow lane here, at every lane there's no fast lane.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, here in in operville, alabama even when you check yourself out half the time you got to have somebody come over there and verify your id just because you got some mucinex what?

Speaker 2:

what are you buying? Mucinex mucinex yeah oh my gosh, they id'd you for that sure did I think people make drugs with that they do.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he even gives you a warning when you're purchasing it off the shelf says you will be required to show your id how old do you have to be?

Speaker 2:

I don't know 19 or 21, not sure, I'm curious I'm not sure, I don't know okay next time you're in the slow checkout lane ask that, see, I would. I don't. How old do you have to be to buy?

Speaker 1:

this. Ask Francine how old you ought to be, francine, if this is Mr Next.

Speaker 2:

Francine, I don't have an ID. She ought to buzz a manager.

Speaker 1:

She'll have to ask it's 643.

Speaker 3:

Wqsb Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

But first time, Holly's pile of stories over the weekend. Inside Out 2. You had a chance to see it Out of 5 stars. How many stars would you give Inside Out 2?

Speaker 2:

I would definitely give it 5 stars, 5 out of 5. It was so good. It's actually surpassed Dune 2 to become the highest grossing film of the year. It's earned $724 million worldwide, after reaching $100 million domestically here in the US and $164 million overseas in a second weekend.

Speaker 1:

That's huge. In two weeks, that's big numbers. It's almost the biggest movie here in the US, but it's the biggest movie worldwide in just a few weeks.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and it was good it was, it was, it was good this weekend.

Speaker 1:

I believe it's the new A Quiet Place movie comes out this weekend. It's kind of like the prequel, showing you how it started. It's going to be like A Quiet Place 3, actually. So it'll be like the prequel showing you kind of how all the aliens came to be on Earth. So that one should be good. Yeah, that one would be good.

Speaker 2:

Bad Boys 4 came in at number 2 with $18 million and the Backriders came in at 3 with $10 million. Gotcha yeah. Elon Musk and Neuralink executive Siobhan Zelis welcomed their third baby together, making it Elon's 12th child overall. I didn't know he had 12 children, 12 kids.

Speaker 1:

I had no idea.

Speaker 2:

How many does Nick Cannon have? 19?.

Speaker 1:

I think there's a race going on here.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I think Eli now has enough family members to start his own social media group, just with his family.

Speaker 2:

I mean he does, but he has so much money that, like you, can afford that many kids. Yeah, I have two. I can't afford them.

Speaker 1:

No, like. Instead of what does he got like X? Which one's he got X?

Speaker 2:

X yeah.

Speaker 1:

He could have like something new, for I don't know what. He owns this group for his family.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, maybe he does Like X Musk. That's a big group chat.

Speaker 1:

It's a big group chat. Yeah, musker, instead of Twitter.

Speaker 2:

No, he got like Musker, no, no, okay, fine, move on then, okay, taylor Swift swallows a bug, and it's not the first time I read this story and I thought I've already heard this. This happened a long time ago, but no, this happened recently. It says she asked the crowd to finish singing for her. She said I swallowed a bug, can you sing? She asked the Wembley Stadium crowd in Londonondon while singing the 10 minute version of all too well, which is literally 10 minutes, and I let me tell you, 10 minute song, I can sing every single word without the music you don't have to though okay, I won't.

Speaker 2:

No, are you sure?

Speaker 1:

not today, okay 10 minutes.

Speaker 2:

Okay, swift asked the 89 000 fans to take over for her. And this is the second bug to stop taylor in her singing tracks since 152 shows of the heiress tour.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know, in bug world those two are like celebrities.

Speaker 2:

Now they're like famous I went down taylor swift's throat yeah, they're like kamikazes.

Speaker 1:

I mean they went down, but they went down taylor's throat and they are getting high every high eight or whatever.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 2:

I'll give them to her.

Speaker 1:

Here's one. Hope y'all have a great birthday. Gonna be outside, drink the liquids. We're talking about Waddles, the Goose, and if you missed the story, what happened, I tell you. Everywhere I went this weekend I was hit with questions and it's honestly, it makes you feel good knowing that people do care. I wouldn't say as Honestly that makes you feel good knowing that people do care.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, about something I wouldn't say as simple as a goose, but sometimes you go to the lake gunners and you see about a thousand of them. You think you know these things are everywhere. But we happened to see one a few weeks ago that was hobbling along. We got closer and looked at it and it had something on its foot. We couldn't tell what it was until we got even closer, so we got a picture of it and then put it up and people began responding saying, hey, this thing has been doing this for about a year now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

We'd seen the same goose down there with the same problem.

Speaker 2:

When we went to go pick up duck food because we knew not to feed it bread or crackers we went to go get duck food. They told us that they had seen that goose for about a year, trying to get help for it, and they have called the game wardens, they have called the city of Montgomery, they have called the city park, they have called the state park and nobody would respond to help this duck.

Speaker 1:

Most people would just hit with well.

Speaker 2:

Goose.

Speaker 1:

Just a goose. Sorry, it's just the nature taking course.

Speaker 2:

It was actually man-made.

Speaker 1:

No, it was man-made because, well, you actually were the one who caught. We did catch wattles friday, caught it and put it into a cage, but you saw it yeah, yeah, and surprisingly, uh, you know we caught it pretty quick.

Speaker 5:

So, um, but yeah it, uh, having the fishing line, I think, is what the main thing, that was the concern for it, um, so, when you could tell that it was really affecting it.

Speaker 1:

So fortunately we were able to, um, get it and try to, you know, mend it but thank you to judy with sneed's farmhouse, who came down and she had seen her post and wanted to help, because she does this kind of thing she helps go out and catch and rescue and help animals like this and she said I think we can help this. So she helped us catch it and then she took it to a friend of hers, of veterinarian coleman, and after we, as we were looking at it, she was going to try to do some help it there on the spot. But as we began working on her, she began working on it. You saw that the fishing line was just too entangled, it was too deep in its skin, had been there for so long and the and its bumble foot was part of it. Yes, but when she took it to the vet she called us later, later over the weekend and said that the vet said that it had been on there for so long that the foot basically was gone yes, it was just dangling.

Speaker 1:

It had no use of it. It could walk, but it's mainly walking on the bumble foot part of it.

Speaker 1:

It's legged he's using it as a crutch as a crutch and the vet said that the infection was so bad the worst case of bumblefoot had ever seen between that and the fishing line being so entangled in the skin that the only solution would be to remove the leg. But then, looking at the fact that it's a wild goose and as tall as they are, off the ground a duck low to the ground would be able to make it, because you could still make it with maybe a prosthetic or one leg or something, but being a goose that's so tall that cutting the leg off they wouldn't be able to survive with just one leg.

Speaker 2:

They also said that there was no chance for him in captivity. Miss Judy was going to take him in and put him on her farm and there was no chance for captivity survival. Farm right and there was no chance for captivity survival. So the saddest news that we have ever had to deliver in the history of the last one year of me being here.

Speaker 1:

It is, and it's one of the most amazing things we've ever had. People respond to everywhere you go asking about wattles yeah and thank you for your response for this, but unfortunately they had to put wattles down we had to put wattles down yeah, they decided it had been for so long.

Speaker 1:

And I know people are saying, well, why did you go out there? If you just left it alone it would have been fine. No, the vet said it's a matter of time because the infection was getting worse and worse and the other ducks wouldn't let it eat or take care of itself.

Speaker 2:

The other ducks waterfowll pick on the weaker animal is what Judy was telling us. They were really Will. You saw how they were treating them.

Speaker 5:

Could you imagine how miserable that goose would be just walking around as long as it has? I feel like from the time that y'all first posted about it to when we actually got wattles, it had gotten larger. It seemed like.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 5:

It was probably miserable and then, like you said, getting picked on by the others, right, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So the humane thing to do, according to the vet, was to put it down and put it up as misery.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and we did what they suggested, and so we have a tribute.

Speaker 1:

We do, and our buddy, scott Chambers, our newsman, was kind enough to send us a couple of lines. And then you recorded a piece of a song because you love to sing the Titanic theme. So we worked on the lyrics to change it just a little, and it's our tribute to Waddles.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and we're being a little lighthearted and we're being a little silly, but when it comes down to it're really sad it was like it breaks our heart to hear this.

Speaker 2:

Over the weekend it was horrible it was horrible and we called judy and we're like okay, game plan is, we will announce it on monday. Yeah, because people would ask us how is waddles, how's waddles? And the vet kept telling us it doesn't look good, because they didn't want to get her hopes up. That leg was dead. That leg was completely dead and the weight of that bumble foot was too heavy. He was going to eventually drown in the lake and so we had to. It was weighing him down. He was not able to swim. He was not able to live a full goose life.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so unfortunately that the the sad end of it, but thank you all for your comments and for your concern and it does show what our listeners, how great they are because so many people reached out yeah, thanks for coming together with us and helping us find judy and helping us help waddles and will.

Speaker 5:

Thanks for catching waddles and absolutely even battling the, the mayfly swarms oh my goodness, that was horrible.

Speaker 2:

That was like what is it called in the Bible About the locusts?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was like that the plague, the plague. Yes, it was like one of those, it was like a plague, a mayfly plague. But one thing was they said, if we had got to this maybe earlier months ago, we might could have saved them, but it's gone on too far and there's nothing they could do. Yeah, yeah, so we decided to put this little tribute together for Waddles. So thank you all for your concern, and maybe if another one pops up and has a problem, we can help it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, farewell. Sweet Waddles, your gentle quacks and feathered charm made every day brighter. May your wings guide you to peaceful waters.

Speaker 2:

Every day by the lake. We saw you. We watched you, the waddles you will will go on Once more. You walk down the shore and you're here in our heart, and that's where waddles will go on and on.

Speaker 1:

It's one of the saddest things that's ever happened. I'm being honest, really. It's sad Because we had followed our little buddy Waddles for a couple of weeks now, yep, and trying to figure out how can we help. And unfortunately we were too late and couldn't do anything to help Waddles but help get it out of its misery. And there's still going to be some who say, if you just left it alone it would have been okay. No, no, it wouldn't. According to the vet, it had already. The infection was so bad and it was just a matter of time. And probably the suffering, the pain when we were trying to get the fishing line off of it, the pain in this little thing's face, oh gosh.

Speaker 1:

Oh it his face, oh gosh, oh, it was miserable you couldn't touch his foot without it, just no pouring blood. No, it was awful. So when they got to the vet's office, looked at it and said there's just not much we can do no, because being a wild judy wanted us to mention being a wild animal, it they don't recommend trying to let them live with other domesticated animals.

Speaker 2:

It just usually don't work right, yeah or vice versa and she was going to take him in and we were ready and prepared to do all of the rehab work. I mean, with a one-legged duck that we could do. What's the plan? Well, I mean, we were prepared, but to those that are like you, should have left him alone. He was starting to drown, he was starting to be weighed down so heavily that he couldn't swim and he was having a hard time eating because all the other ducks were picking on him. They would, they would bite at him, yeah, and run him away. So judy from farmhouse sanctuary said that this is normal for waterfowl, that they do this. Um, so it's just a sad situation, because we loved wattles.

Speaker 2:

He was so cute, it was and he never hissed at us he was the underdog.

Speaker 1:

He just wanted him to get better and get well. We thought we had a chance and unfortunately it was too late.

Speaker 2:

And even when we were helping him, it was like he was thankful, it was like he was saying thank you. He didn't put up a fight, true he. Just he didn't hiss at us like the other mean ducks did did.

Speaker 1:

No, he was the sweetest little duck and our goose, yeah, but the the fishing line was so bad, so bad. So when you do some fishing, just be mindful yeah, I know it's tough sometimes just be mindful to kind of pick up, clean up and because things like this can happen, it's a goose. Unfortunately it can injure and hurt other animals it can and will said.

Speaker 2:

he made a comment on one of our posts that says be kind and keep your line. And that's so true. Keep your line contained so that they don't get wrapped around these ducks and these fish, because these wildlife are part of our community.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely so. Anyway, that's all we got there.

Speaker 3:

Get in my belly, come on.

Speaker 1:

Food stories. I didn't know this, but UFO Days officially gets underway today. We have UFO Day. Subway is offering drone deliveries in parts of the US in honor of UFO Day. It kicks off today. So Atlanta, Dallas, Denver and other parts of Colorado are going to be celebrating by allowing drones to deliver Subway sandwiches until July 2nd. So not here, not here, but they're just honoring UFOs. So imagine you're outside and a drone comes over and drops off a 12-inch sandwich in your yard.

Speaker 2:

Wow, I think that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

Yep, so it could happen.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'd catch it.

Speaker 1:

How about McDonald's? We need to get some of these McShaker fries, but they don't have them here yet, do they?

Speaker 2:

Well, you can't have them because they're in Canada, but they've dropped two more McShaker flavors, featuring ramen-flavored fries and there's a tzatziki-flavored fries. If you've never seen these before, in many countries McDonald's sells these. They come in a bag where you can dump the seasoning in and shake your bag up to coat the french fries with the new flavors.

Speaker 1:

Do you like the ramen noodles? Do you think you would try these?

Speaker 2:

No, nope. I love ramen noodles, but I don't want ramen noodles fries.

Speaker 1:

Well, how about the new Oreo cereal?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I would go for this. The new breakfast is hitting store shelves Mint Chip Oreo Cereal. The post cereal is available for a limited time and features miniature mint-flavored Oreos.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I would eat that, but those look good, uh-huh, yeah, so it should be available right about now at 728.

Speaker 3:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

Congratulations to Brandi Kramer. Brandi is our listener of the day and Brandi wins a QSB Morning Show t-shirt, Holly, and she's also qualified to be our listener of the week, which we'll be announcing this one on Thursday and the winner of that wins two tickets to Hunterfest.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I would be so excited to win those tickets.

Speaker 1:

So to win these, it's simple To be the listener of the day. Tell them how to do it.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so all you have to do is wait for me to upload the podcast around well, I don't know, around 10 o'clock Right Facebook, every morning, a podcast recap, and all you have to do is just comment your favorite part of the show and that enters you into win.

Speaker 1:

There you go. So we'll have another winner tomorrow morning and then all those winners. Each daily winner will be qualified to win the listener of the week, and that's tickets to Hydro Fest.

Speaker 5:

Come on man.

Speaker 1:

Actually not. Come on, man, I've already done. Come on man, We'll do knowledge nuggets instead. How about that? Yeah, things you need to know, whether you know it or not. What's going on this morning?

Speaker 2:

All right. 20% of men say they wear the same shirt three times a week at the office.

Speaker 1:

I don't.

Speaker 2:

Somebody here does. There's somebody here that does. There's actually two people here that do.

Speaker 1:

You know, I think I know who you're talking about. You are correct Every day, which is fine.

Speaker 2:

It's like two shirts in rotation, yeah, but it's also like are you okay? Yeah, do you need another shirt? I will talk to Mrs C, if you need me to, about purchasing.

Speaker 1:

A third shirt.

Speaker 2:

A third shirt. We also have station t-shirts here in the back.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, my shirts have a rotation.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

As I wash them, I put them into the rotation and all the way to the right in the closet. Then they make their way back. It's like an honor to be able to be worn each day.

Speaker 2:

You go left, left, and you were the chosen one.

Speaker 1:

You can feel the shirt's excitement when you pull it out and say tomorrow's your day.

Speaker 2:

The low fuel lot will come on for about 18% of drivers today.

Speaker 1:

Mine came on Saturday. Fuel light I've always been told don't ever let it get low by like a quarter of a tank, but I do. That's what they say. I do too, I do.

Speaker 2:

And I can honestly tell when my gas starts going faster. I know that's weird, but when I fill my gas tank all the way up, I feel like it stays full for a while it does. Then when I go to under a quarter of a tank, it just goes south from there. It's like pouring it down the sink it is. I don't understand what happens If you have silverware. Three forks are likely to vanish this year in your house.

Speaker 1:

Three forks.

Speaker 2:

If you have silverware, three forks are likely to be gone. Where do they go? They're probably thrown away or under a bed.

Speaker 1:

But a fork. I could say maybe a spoon, maybe a spoon, but a fork.

Speaker 2:

Forks are probably more commonly used.

Speaker 1:

You think somebody might take it to work for their lunch and forget and leave it there?

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, there's so many opportunities to lose a fork. But if you're like me, you just have plastic wear and you don't worry about it. Yeah, and you don't worry about it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't know the last time I've lost a fork you?

Speaker 2:

how do you know, barry? Do you keep a count on your fork? I've got three oh, okay, never mind, then four, I have three okay once.

Speaker 1:

Third, one gets dirty if you gotta wash it or eat it with a dirty fork or go with a spoon one of the three, I'm in radio okay yes, I do know I have to eat eggs with a knife. I understand, and that's tough, that's almost impossible, you know have to eat eggs with a knife. I understand, and that's tough, that's almost impossible.

Speaker 2:

You know what I eat them with what my hands. So I don't want to hear it.

Speaker 1:

You tell me how poor I really am. Uh-huh, I eat soup with a plastic knife.

Speaker 2:

You want me to tell you how poor I am.

Speaker 1:

You skipped right over that. You don't even care how poor I am.

Speaker 2:

You With a knife. Yes, Tell you how poor I am. I chew my soup. Rachel Barry's being mean to me.

Speaker 1:

Okay, top that one. I chew my soup, I'm so poor.

Speaker 2:

All right. Do you want to know how poor I?

Speaker 1:

am. How poor are you? You don't have one Waddles died. Don't play the sympathy game I am.

Speaker 2:

The whole world is we need to talk about the news.

Speaker 1:

No you just didn't have a comeback.

Speaker 2:

I got nothing. You changed the subject.

Speaker 1:

It's the next time you're eating your hot ramen noodle soup with a spoon. They come over there chewing my cold soup with a knife.

Speaker 2:

You are not.

Speaker 1:

You are not, I am, yes, I am it's 7.56.

Speaker 3:

Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country Giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

It's Barry and Holly, and Rachel is back after a vacation. Welcome back, Rachel. Glad to have you with us.

Speaker 4:

Great, I'm glad to be here.

Speaker 1:

Are you refreshed? I missed y'all.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, but you listened to us, I did. I listened to y'all on the app.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I loved it. Did you have a good vacation?

Speaker 4:

It. It was pretty good we were busy. It was a volleyball tournament in Orlando. Oh goodness, yeah, did you get to relax any Two afternoons? We did get to relax by the pool, but other than that we were pretty busy.

Speaker 1:

Good weather, or were you part of that storm system that came through southern Florida?

Speaker 4:

No, we had good weather. It was cloudy a couple of days, but other than that we didn't have any rain or anything.

Speaker 1:

If you'd been further south around the Miami area. Oh goodness, they had catastrophic flooding in parts of Florida.

Speaker 4:

Oh, wow.

Speaker 1:

You're lucky.

Speaker 4:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

We did look up, you're back just in time because we have a new food.

Speaker 2:

All right, now you missed what was great last week. It was Baja Fiery Mango Doritos and they were a 10 out of 10. Really, and you know I never give anything a 10. I know they were a 10. I'm going to have to go get them just to see they were so good. They were hot. We got them at Food City at the self-checkout line a small bag and they were hot, but they were good.

Speaker 4:

They were Mm-hmm. Now tell me the name of them again. Baja Fiery Mango I think is what it was Baja Fiery Mango.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and today we have Honey Bun Mini Muffins.

Speaker 1:

Now, these have been suggested to us by quite a few people and we finally got our hands on some Little Debbie and I love the mini muffins and these smell like a good honey bun.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they do.

Speaker 1:

Love their honey buns, so it's got to be a win-win, would you think?

Speaker 4:

I would think yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 5:

Okay, oh yeah, these are good.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, it's like a honey bun and mini muffins had a baby.

Speaker 2:

Cinnamon. I taste the cinnamon.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Different flavor of a honey bun, different texture.

Speaker 4:

That's a nod. Yeah, the texture is very different from a honey bun, because a honey bun.

Speaker 1:

you're expecting that slick the glaze on the honey bun like Little Debbie. This one's just like a muffin. What's a muffin? It's packy yeah.

Speaker 2:

Tacky, packy, packy. It packs in your Y'all don't know that word. Packy, oh Paki, like it packs in your throat, y'all don't know that word. No, paki.

Speaker 1:

You just made it up.

Speaker 2:

No, I didn't.

Speaker 1:

No, my mom always says it Like it sticks in your teeth Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Speaker 2:

Mama calls it Paki.

Speaker 1:

Like Paki man or what.

Speaker 2:

Sticky no, no, no, it's like sticky, like Paki, like it You've never heard of it.

Speaker 4:

I learn something new every day.

Speaker 1:

I'm not fighting with you. Don't get all defensive over there. I'm saying okay.

Speaker 2:

I will. If you talk about my mama, again, I didn't say a word about your mama when you talk about my mama. That's when the claws come out. I didn't say a word about mama. I'm joking. I know you didn't.

Speaker 1:

I can't turn your mic off again. There we go. I'll talk to Rachel, no you're back.

Speaker 2:

You're back. First you put me in the corner, then you mute my microphone. Then you talk about my mama, then you tell me your soup story satirized with my soup story, it was.

Speaker 1:

We've got some good news, though. Doug's joining us in just a minute.

Speaker 2:

Can't wait Second-hand shelter.

Speaker 1:

Wolfstock. This is the last week of Wolfstock.

Speaker 2:

Oh no.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

We got some raising to do.

Speaker 1:

We do so. Doug will be joining us, coming up in just a minute. For the latest it's 8-12.

Speaker 3:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

WQSB Kenny Chesney in. Take her home. It's 8-36. Barry and Holly and animal story. Before we get into the animal story had to be put down over the weekend.

Speaker 2:

He did, and we miss wattles, but wattles is dancing in those heavenly gates in the sky.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, that's horrible because we did our best to get two wattles as quickly as possible. Judy from Snead Farmhouse helped us out. We were able to catch wattles and she knew from looking at it at the very beginning it was going to be tough to save wattles because, yeah, it was, fishing lines had been wrapped around its leg for so long and some say had been almost a year that they had seen wattles down there. With a problem with its foot and with it being on it so long the foot was already dead and the infection was getting worse and worse. Had a bad case of bumblefoot and it was an infection.

Speaker 1:

It was just like a whole different group of things that was wrong and they could have taken the leg off. But with it being a goose, it stands so tall it couldn't survive on one leg. Now if it was a duck lower to the ground it could, but being that tall it couldn't survive on one leg. Plus it being so heavy, it would end up breaking the other leg and then it would be just a goose that couldn't even move.

Speaker 2:

He would have had no quality of life, he couldn't move at all. Also, judy said to make sure that everybody knows that a wild animal cannot be kept in captivity, that they won't thrive, she was going to try to take wattles and nurse them back to health the best that we could, and then we were going to send them back to the lake. But they told us that the infection was just too bad. He was starting to drown out there. He wasn't able to swim, he was getting picked on. He was not able to eat. Picked on, he was not able to eat and the vet told us it's one of those things where it's like this is the most humane thing.

Speaker 1:

You can do. Yeah, for this animal hated it so bad because people were asking so why didn't you just leave it alone and let it just continue living its life?

Speaker 1:

we could have, but the life probably wouldn't have been much longer, according to the vet, because the infection was that bad yeah and eventually like probably wouldn't don't know a timeline, I have no idea, but in just a matter of weeks it probably would have gotten so bad it couldn't even move and it would have just died a horrible death and it was in so much pain.

Speaker 2:

It was in misery it was.

Speaker 1:

So we hate it and thank you for all the support, the great comments, and we tried, we did the best we could trying to find. Had we seen it and gotten to it, maybe months, many months ago, they might could have done something, but it was just too bad.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, too far gone. I think that there don't be discouraged. There was, it wasn't for lack of trying. No, no, that's what I'm trying to say. We talked to so many people that have seen wattles over the last year and tried to get some help. We just there's no help or resources for wildlife animals. That's the world we live in, and Judy said that it's not just Alabama, that it's a statewide problem with wildlife, and so they're just overlooked.

Speaker 1:

It's frustrating.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it is.

Speaker 1:

But thank you for Judy and for the veterinarian office in Coleman for helping and giving it a shot. And, by the way, if you'd like to maybe help Judy because it did cost her to come here and rescue it and then pay the vet bill when she took it to the vet, which all that's not free be sure and visit her website, her Facebook or visit her farm, because she has a lot of animals that she's rescued and she has tours and groups come by and she'd love to have you come out there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, did you know that you can go swim with piglets?

Speaker 1:

Oh, that would be so much fun.

Speaker 2:

You can swim with the piglets.

Speaker 1:

That would be fun. Then the other animal story. Moving to a happier note, this is one of the cutest videos I've seen. Is its name Maru? Yeah, maru, m-a-r-u it, and they say it's a real cat of genius, kind of like those beer commercials. But Maru is in this video. It's on her Facebook page. It's slowly walking through the house. It bends over. There's like a box, like a beer box. It puts it on its head, the cat puts it on its head itself and then it walks over to its favorite swing in the house, climbs up on the swing and begins swinging itself in the video.

Speaker 2:

It loves the swing so much. This is so cute.

Speaker 1:

You know what it has to have like some skill to get its little head in that box like that and then be able to find where the swing is and get up on the swing and swing itself. It's about a six-minute video. If you just want to smile, if the kids love this, I'm going to send this to Reg and my daughter because she loves cats. She, you just want to smile. If the kids love this, I'm going to send this to Reg and my daughter because she loves cats. Yes, she will love this video. Yes, and it's a celebrity, and I can see why. Maru, I'd love to have a cat like this.

Speaker 2:

I love it because he wags his tail like a dog.

Speaker 1:

The whole time.

Speaker 2:

He's so happy.

Speaker 1:

He just wags it. So after a sad day.

Speaker 2:

yeah, this will definitely give you a grin.

Speaker 1:

It's on our Facebook page. It's Maru the Cat. It's 841.

Speaker 3:

Mary and Holly on Alabama's Country, Giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

The morning's quote of the day. Something to think about, something to give you a little, maybe, inspiration. Maybe you've had a hard weekend, a tough weekend like so many have, and you need something to lift you up. You can do it by. I think this will help you out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it says view your life with a kind side. Stop beating yourself up about things from the past. Instead of slapping your forehead and asking what was I thinking, breathe and ask the kinder question what was I learning?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so many times I've done something, made a mistake, said yeah, so many times I've done something, made a mistake, said something wrong, did something, and I think what was I thinking? Why did I do that? I beat myself over that. Yeah, it's good to realize that you made a mistake, but it's better to say, okay, I made a mistake, how can I avoid it next time? How can I fix this and how can I do better? How can I learn from what I just did? Maybe send an email that you can't get it back. Instead of beating yourself over that, try to fix it and figure out what you just did, and maybe you can avoid doing it next time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's good advice.

Speaker 1:
