It's time to rise and shine and get your morning started with Alabama's award-winning morning show. So stay where you are until you're sure it's safe to move. Broadcasting live from high atop Alabama's beautiful Sand Mountain. Online transmission is ready, sir. Please welcome your hosts. Barry, I'm hungry.

Speaker 2:

Don't be such a baby. I cooked you some bacon.

Speaker 4:

I ate it already. I could smell it in your purse, and now it's gone and I hate everything and holly just walk up to the mic and meow really loudly for eight minutes good morning.

Speaker 1:

At 605 eight minutes, can you pull that out? Yeah, for not enough right now no, no because you're not in the best of moods this morning. I'm grumpy. You had a hard morning, I'm grumpy. You had a hard morning. I'm grumpy Because it's one of those mornings when you I forgot something at home.

Speaker 2:

I got all the way here to work. It's like a 25-minute drive for me. Yeah, and I got all the way here. I had a biscuit for you, I threw the biscuit down on you. Yes, thank you very back. I'm so grumpy.

Speaker 1:

I thought you forgot your cell phone, because that's the worst.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that is the worst, especially when you can't find it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but it wasn't that.

Speaker 2:

No, it wasn't that, but other than that it's been a good morning. Yeah, my biscuit was good.

Speaker 1:

Very good, yeah, and traffic, a lot of traffic this morning. Yep, it's going to be another hot day. Humidity is picking up. You could tell it yesterday. I'm doing some walking, it's getting hot and today it's back to where it should be Mostly sunny, 90, a little more humid. Then tomorrow, humidity heat index around 100. And there's a slight chance of rain tomorrow. Actually, there's some rain this morning in Morgan County and around Coleman. In Coleman County you could have some showers, so if you're on your way to Coleman you may run through some rain. But that's about it. Today should be a dry day. Then it's going to be a hot weekend. If you have outdoor plans for the weekend, you're looking at highs around 90. And then a very humid day and at least a 30 to 40% chance of rain each day. So a lot of football starting this week.

Speaker 2:

My daughter starts Pee Wee Cheer this week, Okay now Saturday.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, there's about a 40% chance of a scattered pop-up shower. Okay, is your game in the morning or the afternoon?

Speaker 2:

I'm not sure.

Speaker 1:

So if it's, afternoon, then there's a little better chance of rain in the afternoon. It is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, in the afternoon. So things going on today. Hey, we're going to be at Food City again. In Fort Payne the grand opening continues A brand new location of Food City, so we'll be there from noon until 2. Come by and take advantage of that. We'll be talking football. The high school football scoreboard is only a week and a half away and it returns. It's the most listened to scoreboard in the state. It's like a tradition Whenever you leave your game you have to turn it on to QSP to hear the scores.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, you have to, and hear all the interviews with the coaches and things like that going on.

Speaker 2:

That's the cool stuff it is. I'm excited for football season.

Speaker 1:

Now our first game on the radio is tomorrow night. I know Looking forward to it. Yeah, be good to hang out with my buddies John Gladden, keith Ball and Chris Jenkins again, albertville football.

Speaker 2:

The 18th.

Speaker 1:

Back on the air Coming up tomorrow and a Jamboree game. Jamboree game, yeah, but still that's coming up tomorrow. And Albertville-Fort Payne playing each other Fort.

Speaker 2:

Payne.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, at Albertville, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2:

Okay, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So a lot of Jamborees coming up it doesn't matter, I just follow the ball.

Speaker 2:

But I love the feeling of football. I love being around the fans, I love the popcorn. I love the cooler weather. It's not going to be cool this weekend, no, it's going to be hot, yeah, but I'm looking forward for it.

Speaker 1:

Now was it last year. It was last year when the football season kicked off. It was so hot had to delay some of the kickoffs like an hour to two hours.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Because it was so hot Hopefully not going to be as hot this year for opening week. But we'll be talking more about that coming up later on. How do you know? But first things you need to know it's Wednesday, august the 14th Crazy Halfway through with another month.

Speaker 2:

Crazy halfway through with another month, I know, yeah, another one. Today is National Creamsicle Day, though, yes, I love creamsicles. Yep Creamsicle is the brand name of an ice cream treat. What it is is it's a vanilla ice cream on a popsicle stick with an outer coating of sherbet. So the original was orange. That was the original flavor, yeah, but now they've come out with what are you doing About to sneeze, are you?

Speaker 1:

That was close. That was a weird face. I hate to stop a sneeze.

Speaker 2:

I know You've got to let it fall through, because that's one of the best, a good sneeze yeah.

Speaker 1:

But anyway I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:

That's okay. I'm going to go back to my story now. The original flavor was orange, but now you can get blue, raspberry, lime, grape, cherry and blueberry.

Speaker 1:

I don't think I've ever had anything but orange.

Speaker 2:

I've only had orange, but I would go hard after that blueberry creamsicle.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, well, they define one.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Because I liked it when Wendy's had the dreamsicle frosties.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that was good.

Speaker 1:

Those were good yeah those were really good. They did bring them back.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, bring them back yeah. And then Kobe Bryant's yellow Lakers warm-up jacket, worn during his final game, was sold at auction Guess for how much, don't know $336,000.

Speaker 1:

Somebody paid that much for just a piece of clothing that Kobe wore, wow.

Speaker 2:

Can I be honest? Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't pay more.

Speaker 1:

They're probably going to resell it at another auction down the road.

Speaker 2:

I mean, it's his warm-up jacket. Last one he wore. Yeah, last one he wore. If I'm not, wrong.

Speaker 1:

It's from a game when he had like an amazing game.

Speaker 2:

He had 60 points.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, 60.

Speaker 2:

Wow 60 points.

Speaker 1:

In one game, one player. He's incredible, that's amazing. Yep yesterday a friend told me that her, that her son said his ear hurt, did your kids get?

Speaker 2:

ear all the time, yeah. So she said on the inside or outside. He walked outside on the porch and came back in and said both on the inside or outside. They heard both inside the house and outside went outside and said both yeah, she's stopping saving for college.

Speaker 1:

I don't blame her he won't Inside the house and outside, inside of the ear or outside of the ear, yeah, when outside it's in both.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah. She's stopping saving for college. I don't blame her. He won't go to college, no Well.

Speaker 1:

I hope he's okay. It's 18. What, I'm sorry, what?

Speaker 2:

Take two.

Speaker 1:

But speaking of Jordan, jordan is a guy who doesn't get enough attention. Yeah, and as far as awards, you never hear his name. Which the CMA Award nominations are coming out of. The next few days We'll find out. It's like the Fall Awards show. Jordan needs to be in there.

Speaker 2:

Well, Jordan is. He does have a little bit of fame at our radio station. Yeah, Because he's hanging up in the back room In the women's bathroom.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so he's on the wall of fame.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he's on the wall of fame.

Speaker 1:

There's only four of them, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and Jordan Davis made the cut, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Well, he's on tour and this is funny. He decided to prank some of his fans so he went out before the show very early and he was out in the crowd with a cowpaw and glasses on. He's kind of recognizable if you know who he is. Yeah, for him in the show were Mitchell, tenpenny and Ashley. They're opening for him. So he went out in the crowd and was just kind of hanging out and asking people about the show what you're here to see and then he videoed it. You can see the video on our Facebook page. Here's Jordan talking to some of the fans Mitchell and Ashley. Mitchell and Ashley. I'll say this After Tenpenny, you might as well leave the headliner sucks.

Speaker 3:

That's Jordan. That's Jordan. I like the Luke Bryan song, but what's that? I'm not. Who is playing? Jordan Diggs Ah gotcha.

Speaker 2:

He has that one song. Is that one song? Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I just got drug here by my girlfriend. Could be fun though. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're just here for Mitchell. Yeah, just here for Mitchell. Headliner's kind of garbage. My girlfriend drug me out. Y'all here for Ashley.

Speaker 4:

I like her, but I like.

Speaker 3:

Mitchell's opinion. Mitchell's way better than the headline.

Speaker 2:

He is Mitchell's awesome.

Speaker 1:

I'll call you later. It's my favorite song. One of them kind of thought it was him, but they didn't know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

But he was just bashing himself. He calls himself Shades Davis. He does it at all of his shows. Oh, he puts on sunglasses and goes out and hangs out and just asks the crowd who they're here to see. That is so funny. And it's funny because none of them said they were here to see Jordan Davis and he's the headliner.

Speaker 2:

They're like well.

Speaker 1:

Mitchell Tenpenny's opening up for him. Yeah, I like him. Here's that one song with Luke Bryan. That's all they have. Oh, that's funny. You can watch this if you go to her Facebook page. But in the meantime, since you've been gone, what's going on today?

Speaker 2:

All right. This is a hard word for me to say, so, bear with me. Child hospitalizations Got it. Word for me to say so, bear with me. Child hospitalizations got it out, all right. Related to water beads are up to 130 percent. Do you know what water beads are?

Speaker 1:

I thought they had taken those completely off the market. They were supposed to, but there are still some stores who are selling there are.

Speaker 2:

They're the little toys that they're little bitty balls, and when they're soaked in water they puff up and they can well. So what the babies? Are doing is putting that little tiny ball in their mouth.

Speaker 1:

Thinking it's a toy of some kind, yeah, or?

Speaker 2:

candy, and then it swells up in their throat, wow, and they can't breathe. So, anyway, they were originally used for plants, but they become popular children's toys. They were a lot of fun until they got deadly.

Speaker 1:

So your kids have had them? Yeah, you've played with them children's toys.

Speaker 2:

They were a lot of fun until they got deadly. So your kids have had them. Well, yeah, they had a little foot bath and it was full of those and they're called Orbeez.

Speaker 1:

One brand is called Orbeez, if you're familiar with that To me they're confusing, because what's the drink that you say that you use? And the girls like Boba tea. It looks similar to that. I can see why some kids are confused and think it's maybe something to eat.

Speaker 2:

It does look like boba tea. Yeah, Whatever those are called. Last year there were 3,300 water bead-related emergency room visits involving kids and teens. Major retailers plan to stop selling water beads marketed to kids.

Speaker 1:

Why can't they stop this now? Just stop it.

Speaker 2:

It's killing kids. Take them out of the store, yes, and don't gift that to anybody either.

Speaker 1:

So the key is when you put it in your mouth or when you put it in water, they've been expanded.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

So when a kid swallows, or anybody swallows one, they expand inside your stomach.

Speaker 2:

Yes or throat.

Speaker 1:

Man. That is dangerous.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that is, and McDonald's is trying to tap that energy into the grown-up version of the Happy.

Speaker 1:

Meal. I've got to get one.

Speaker 2:

I have got to get one of these. They're called Collector's Meals. It's a new menu item. That's a combo meal with six unique cups.

Speaker 1:

It doesn't say is it a cup like plastic or glass?

Speaker 2:

I don't know if it's plastic or glass. Surely it's not glass.

Speaker 1:

I don't know That'd be expensive.

Speaker 2:

But you can get it during breakfast hours.

Speaker 1:

I didn't know this.

Speaker 2:

You can get your collector's meal with a sausage and egg sandwich, hash browns and a hot coffee. Okay. Or if you go at lunch, they have more options, you can get a 10-piece. The cup designs are so cute. We posted it on our Facebook. It got over 500 shares. Very cute. Yeah, people love these. There's Coca-Cola, Hello Kitty and Peanuts together. Beanie Babies I want to see this one Barbie and Hot Wheels. That's the one I figured you'd want.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I want that one.

Speaker 2:

And then Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions. That's the one I want, that's the one you want.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so I'm going to Today. I've already fallen for this. Yeah, I want one, I'm going to go and get me one. I just want to see at least what they cut. But if you've already, they went on sale yesterday.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

So if anybody out there has one gotten one or glass.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, message us on Facebook, don't you?

Speaker 1:

doubt that they're glass.

Speaker 2:

I mean, no, I don't, because glass lasts longer and holds up better. So I'm trying to think when I was young I think it was around 1996, for real they came out with cups at McDonald's the collectibles that you're used to a long time ago, and I think they were very hard plastic, like really good sturdy, hard plastic.

Speaker 1:

This may be what they're doing again. That may be what they're doing again the hard plastic yeah.

Speaker 2:

I don't know. I don't know, but maybe somebody will message us, because I want to know if they get them here too. I want to know who's gotten one.

Speaker 1:

I'll definitely get one today. Yeah, I'm just curious. All right, 625.

Speaker 3:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

It was Kara on her Facebook page. Yeah, she messaged and said the McDonald's cups are like a hard plastic.

Speaker 2:

Yes, which?

Speaker 1:

is fine, I'm just curious.

Speaker 2:

She said it depends on the meal, but she believes the meal was about $10. So Kara Garmany, was that listener? Yeah, hard plastic.

Speaker 1:

What we're talking about is they started their collectors. They're calling them collector's meals, and I think this is a great idea. It is, yeah, because I like to collect happy meals, but I don't really go for the food. Mcdonald's, yeah, but the collector's meals actually have a Big Mac. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, and you can also get these for breakfast. Yes, not a Big Mac for breakfast, but the sausage and egg biscuit for breakfast yeah, but they should serve Big Macs for breakfast.

Speaker 2:

They should.

Speaker 1:

I like them all day long. Yeah, and the cup. She said it was about $10.

Speaker 2:

Yep about $10.

Speaker 1:

So they yes.

Speaker 2:

I mean that's kind of expensive, but you get a cup as long as it holds up to be washed. That's all I want, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I don't care if it's plastic or glass. So you'd use yours?

Speaker 2:

Yes, you're not going to collect it and just, are you going to not touch it?

Speaker 1:

Well, I'm telling you now that this set of six someday could be worth something.

Speaker 2:

Okay, but Barbies and Hot Wheels and you on the same cup and you expect me not to drink from it.

Speaker 1:

I, I know I'm crazy.

Speaker 2:

That's the coolest thing ever. I don't know what the design looks like. Let me ask Kara which one she got.

Speaker 1:

Look on there and try to find the exact designs and we'll talk about those. But first we're going to tell you something good. We're going to tell you what the listeners are saying. You put them up there. Where are you listening at this morning? Where are you listening from? Yeah, and listening. This morning we've got Jonathan Carter Jonathan listening. He loves the cool mornings in Fort Payne. Welding is not good in the summer, I can't even imagine I bet. But thank you, jonathan. She says she's listening from Guntersville. Yeah, nikki Goss says listening on my way to work from Piedmont to Alexandria. Is that a long drive?

Speaker 1:

Not too bad. I would think Not too bad. I would think Not too bad.

Speaker 2:

Jennifer Floyd says good morning. Bridget Chamblee says me.

Speaker 1:

Here's Melissa Davidson. You mentioned Melissa from Jorldine A lot of listeners. Thank you so much. You can comment also by going to our Facebook page and let us know where you're listening. From 6.37, coming up some new Legos we'll talk about and big Frozen news. Frozen Not the weather, but the movies. So for the girls, fans of Frozen are you, oh man, yes. I can only imagine you're going to sing part of Let it Go coming up soon.

Speaker 2:

If you'll play the karaoke track, I will sing.

Speaker 1:

Let it Go, I will. Yeah, Okay that I'm not going to play it.

Speaker 2:

I'm kidding, I will yeah.

Speaker 1:

Okay, okay, then I'm not going to play it. Okay, I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'll find it.

Speaker 2:

Let the public hear my voice. I know Because somebody could be listening and be like, ooh, she needs a record deal.

Speaker 1:

I was expecting to see you on AGT last night. America's Got Talent.

Speaker 2:

Well, I couldn't afford the plane ticket.

Speaker 1:

Gotcha to go down there. All right, I know we don't make much money here. No, we're poor, yeah, 638.

Speaker 3:

Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

Topper Holly's pile of stories. Everybody is waiting because we mentioned she'll be talking about Frozen and your big Frozen news Now. Were you a big fan of Frozen 1 and 2?

Speaker 2:

Yes, the girls were little when it came out and they loved it. Harlow even had a little Frozen dress and wig. She had Elsa's wig. It would be long down her back. It was funny. But they have announced that Frozen 3 will hit theaters on November 24, 2027.

Speaker 1:

What I know. I know that's three years. Yeah, why announce November 24, 2027.

Speaker 2:

What I know. I know that's three years. Yeah, why now November 24th, 2027.

Speaker 1:

Some of the kids who are fans of it now will already have moved on.

Speaker 2:

I know they're going to be grown up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. They're going to be driving cars, they'll have a brand new audience, I guess.

Speaker 2:

Maybe their grandkids can watch it.

Speaker 1:

I don't know. Three years, goodness I don't know.

Speaker 2:

They also confirmed that there's a fourth film coming too, though. A fourth.

Speaker 1:

Frozen. Okay, speaking of Frozen, we thought you might want to do a little bit here. Okay, I don't want to put you on the spot, okay, but Let it Go. Okay, is that one of your?

Speaker 2:

favorite songs yeah.

Speaker 1:

Are you ready?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm ready. Okay, Let it go. Let it go. You like those faces Wow.

Speaker 1:

You made a. Yeah, we need video to go with this.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man.

Speaker 1:

We need video to go with this, if you can see my faces.

Speaker 2:

It's so much better.

Speaker 1:

It's like you're in pain. I was straining a little bit Like you pulled a hamstring there.

Speaker 2:

Have you ever tried to sing high pitch at 6 in the morning? Nope.

Speaker 1:

Have you ever tried to sing high pitch at 6 in the morning? Nope, well, it's hard, it's difficult, yeah. So what else is going on? There's a new Avatar movie.

Speaker 2:

Yes, the studios reaffirmed that James Cameron's upcoming Avatar Fire and Ash will hit theaters December 2025.

Speaker 1:

So another year for that one too. Another year, yeah, Another year. Then I heard there's another Avatar two years after that one. No way, They've already filmed two more. God okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, Lego rolls out Nightmare Before Christmas set as Halloween approaches. The set will include the Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington, as well as characters like Sally and Zero. The film locations like Spiral Hill and Halloween Town Hall is so cute. Have you seen the Legos? Spiral Hill and Halloween Town Hall it's so cute. Have you seen the Legos?

Speaker 1:

I've seen it. Yeah, look on their Facebook page. These are super cute. Now, were you a fan of the movie at all?

Speaker 2:

I was a big fan of the movie. Now I'm not a big fan of Legos because I've never understood them.

Speaker 4:

Well, they're hard to take care of. Yeah, I saw Russell.

Speaker 2:

Johnson make a Facebook post from Wendy's that he got like a 1600 something piece roller coaster set. Oh my goodness. Yeah, he's showing progress and I'm invested in this progress of the Lego set because I don't get it. I don't understand how you make these things.

Speaker 1:

They're hard I've done some with the kids and if you get one piece in the wrong spot it messes it all up.

Speaker 2:

Well, you can get the Nightmare Before Christmas Lego set starting Friday, september 6th online and in stores, but hold on to your wallets because it is $200. Wow.

Speaker 1:

Legos are expensive, I know.

Speaker 2:

Halloween's John Carpenter. It's returning to the Halloween franchise, yes, but not for a big screen movie. I was disappointed. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

I did like the way the last one ended Very disappointing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, you're not going to get another one that we know of. Yeah. Two new Halloween video games, though, are currently in development, and one is going to be involved with at least one of them. Carpenter is yeah. The games will allow players to relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from the movie. So can you be, michael myers, I don't know that's creepy.

Speaker 1:

That would be fun though I love the halloween movies, oh yeah, except the last one it was. It was awful what is it. So have you ever seen any of the halloween movies at all?

Speaker 2:

uh-uh, really, none, none, not a single.

Speaker 1:

I know the music, I know michael myers that's the music, and John Carpenter did the music also.

Speaker 2:

Oh I didn't know, he did the music.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, he's going to have his hand in one of the video games.

Speaker 1:

You may have to get the game in play.

Speaker 2:

I may have to, but you need to watch at least the first one, the original yeah I of scary movies Makes sense. Yeah well, I felt scared.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, it worked then. I guess they did their job. Okay, our birthdays are next, barry and Holly on.

Speaker 3:

Alabama's Country, Giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

QSB. You know, friday's the big day. Post Malone, blake Shelton. Post Malone's new album comes out.

Speaker 2:

F1 Trillia.

Speaker 1:

You get to hear all the songs, including the Post and Chris Stapleton song.

Speaker 2:

Hey, I heard another collaboration, who? I don't know if it's just hearsay or not, but Laney Wilson. Oh, that's what I heard. We'll see.

Speaker 1:

There's a few on there with Post by himself which I think he needs to release. One by himself with nobody else on there, Just let everybody hear him sing just by himself.

Speaker 2:

I think that's what I would do.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I love him, I love his music. I love his music, I love his voice.

Speaker 2:

Do you think he'll go back to what? Was it rap? Was it rap or Is it rap?

Speaker 1:

pop. It's not really pop. I wouldn't say pop at all, not really. It's not rock.

Speaker 2:

No, it's not rock. Do you think he'll ever go back or do you think he's going to do country? I think he'll do both.

Speaker 1:

Do both he said he's always wanted to do country but his record. People said, no, we're going to try the other format because we think this would work better for you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I love him. I heard him sing a Sturgill Simpson song one time. Good stuff, so good. The Virgil Simpson song one time. Good stuff so good, so good. If you get a chance, look that up on YouTube.

Speaker 1:

I like his music Good music. And one more time. I thought we were through with this, but we're not Olympic news. There's still one more story. And now the Jordan Childs. It looks like the controversy is settled. They're not going to take the medal away from the Romanian girl and give it back to Jordan. Nope, looks like they're saying it's done, it's over. Hush, be quiet, go over there and lay down. We're through talking about this, even though the US has proven that the US was right and that Jordan Child should not have had her medal taken away. But the Olympic Committee is not going to change their decision.

Speaker 2:

Does that make you mad? It does.

Speaker 1:

It makes me mad when there's proof that you should give her the medal back. And they're saying no rules are rules. Whatever the rules are, we're done talking about it. It's over.

Speaker 2:

But that's not what they did for Romania.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

They let them have four extra seconds.

Speaker 1:

They sure did, but anyway, flavor Flav is stepping up, trying to make things better Flavor. You know, between Flavor Flav and Snoop Dogg, they were really all over the Olympics, especially Snoop Dogg, it was everywhere. Oh yeah, but Flavor, flav. He's now offering Jordan Childs a bronze clock necklace as a replacement, because I guess he's famous for wearing his big clock around his neck, yeah, yeah he even had the reality show with him and his clocks and his women.

Speaker 1:

He's now offering Jordan Childs a bronze clock necklace to replace her medal. Now I'll let you read the post.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Because this is Flavor Flav's writing and I have no idea what he is saying right here in this post. I'm looking at it and I'm saying I have no idea, so go ahead.

Speaker 2:

Okay, I'm going to read it just like he wrote it okay.

Speaker 1:

Write this on X. This is what he put.

Speaker 2:

Turn your volume down in your truck a little bit. Yeah, oh, jordan Childs, I'm going to make you a bronze clock necklace and that's something. No one has Hit me up, my girl, I got you, that's what he said that was his post.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that was his post. That's word for word too. Yes, that's wild. That was good.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so. And then she says and her mama says they are excited was ordered to return your bronze medal by the IOC. So now you can see a picture. Well, look at the picture on our Facebook page.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Do you think it's a great-looking medal? Slash clock.

Speaker 2:

I think that this is next best-case scenario.

Speaker 1:

It is. I mean he's trying.

Speaker 2:

You get your medals taken away. Nothing's going to make it better, no, no, but Flavor, flav, offering you a gold or a bronze clock.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but Flavor, flav, offering you a bronze clock. Yeah, he tried to make things better.

Speaker 2:

I mean, he did, I like him.

Speaker 1:

There's no way to get the bronze medal.

Speaker 2:

What was that reality show?

Speaker 1:

It was just him Flavor of Love, flavor of Love.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 1:

Flavor of Love. I loved it yeah but Jordan's mother said they're honored that he would go to the trouble of trying to make something good out of something bad.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You know what I would have done if I was Jordan? Okay, she's got the medal in her hand. They would have to come to the US and find me and get it out of my they would have to pry it from my cold bed, bed to get their medal back. They would not get it back, no.

Speaker 2:

I'd hide it. No, I'd be like what medal? I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know what you're talking about, man.

Speaker 1:

They would not find that medal.

Speaker 2:

I already sent that back.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I already shipped it through the mail. Keep checking the mail. It must be lost. It's not my fault, the package got lost. I Good for Jordan Childs for being a good person.

Speaker 1:

She did, she gave it back.

Speaker 2:

I guess I'm more stingy.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they would not have gotten the medal back for me. All right, the morning's quote of the day. We've had a lot of serious ones and really good ones, and thank you for the comments on the quotes. I thought this would be fitting. It's not a funny one, but I think sometimes we find celebrities who have said something in the past that people keep remembering. I've never heard Elvis say this.

Speaker 2:

No, I've never seen this quote.

Speaker 1:

So it's pretty cool what he's saying.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, this is a quote by Elvis Presley. It says ambition is a dream with a V8 engine.

Speaker 1:

So what does that mean to you? It means I think Elvis is perfect for this because he did so much in his career Really, if you think about it, in kind of a short amount of time, because he died at a fairly young age how old was he? You'd have to look it up, but he was really still doing great things when he died. But he did so many good things between music and movies. He was in the military. He did a lot of stuff, I know, and it's like everything he did he did it wide open. Basically, what he's saying is, if you have a dream, don't just halfway do it or half blanket Do it. Give it all you've got, because that window may not last for long. When it's open that you can do what you want to do, yeah, between age and losing your talent or others coming around behind you who are better than you, you only have a short window, yeah, so give it everything you've got.

Speaker 2:

You've hit the nail on the head If you have a dream, to make it an ambition. You just got to go one step further. You got to put that V8 engine in.

Speaker 1:

Don't just say I'm going to try harder tomorrow, I'm going to do better.

Speaker 2:

No, Every time you get out there, I've learned putting things off until tomorrow is the worst thing you can do. I've learned that facing things head on with ambition is more productive.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, do it today what you can do, because from experience there may not be a tomorrow. So give it all you've got today. Just like Elvis said, ambition is a dream. With a V8 engine, give it all you've got. It's 714.

Speaker 3:

WQSB.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 3:

Get in my belly, come on I won't stand it.

Speaker 1:

Well, how about a Chick-fil-A sandwich with pimento cheese? It's back. Ooh yeah, the honey pepper pimento chicken sandwich is back at Chick-fil-A. It's back again. You can order that August, starting August 26th. It says and the banana pudding milkshake. Oh, I guess, sadly, that means that the peach milks the banana pudding milkshake. Oh, I guess, sadly, that means that the peach milkshake will be going away. Sorry.

Speaker 2:

Summer's overdue. That's my favorite.

Speaker 1:

Well, the banana pudding milkshake hasn't been there in over 10 years. I think I read 13 years.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, 13 years. So if you haven't had one in a while which you haven't because it's been 13 years or if you've never had one, you can now. So both of these will be hitting the stores, coming up in just a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2:

I've never had one, but I am going to get one. I'm not the biggest fan of milkshakes, but I want to try a banana pudding, milkshake, love banana pudding, yep.

Speaker 1:

And how about the new Oreo flavored Coke?

Speaker 2:

So this is a wild collaboration. Oreo and Coca-Cola have teamed up to create two new things Coca-Cola flavored Oreo cookies. Did you hear me?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Coca-Cola flavored Oreo cookies and Oreo flavored Coca-Cola.

Speaker 1:

I'd rather try the Oreos flavored like Coke, which I don't see them have that much flavor.

Speaker 2:

I would rather do the Coke the Coke that tastes like Oreos yeah. Both of them are going to hit the shelves September 9th. We've got to get these for a taste test. The cookies boast a red and black design. It's really pretty and contains a popping candy that fizzes in your mouth. If you're familiar with those space dunks, it's like those and it's really really good. I like the little pop rocks in there. The Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar Soda contains flavors inspired by the cookie.

Speaker 1:

Okay. So if the Coke has like Oreo flavors, will it also turn your teeth black when you drink one? Because if you ever eat an Oreo cookie, you've got Oreo cookies all over the place. I've always thought if I ever go to the dentist as a joke, before I go back there to have my teeth cleaned, I'll eat about three Oreos and say, just like you make, say okay, do your magic.

Speaker 2:

And just smile. Earn your money.

Speaker 4:

But they're so good though they're so good.

Speaker 2:

So I love that this is happening because it's a Coca-Cola zero sugar and it's hard for me to find good diet drinks. Yeah, and I'm really excited to try the oreo flavor.

Speaker 1:

It may be awesome so they should be out soon. September, you're saying september?

Speaker 3:

or not we'll have to find some at 7 26 mornings with barry and hall here on alabama's country, giant wqsb. Come on, man mornings.

Speaker 1:

Come on man story. I don't know the last wedding I've been to. What about you? Have you been to any weddings?

Speaker 2:

I've been to one about two years ago.

Speaker 1:

I would think you would probably sometimes carry like a wedding gift, something like that. But have you ever had to pay to be at someone's wedding Other than like if you're a?

Speaker 2:

I've had to buy a broadsman's dress.

Speaker 1:

Well, that's different, but if you just want to go in the crowd and watch.

Speaker 2:

No, I've never been what.

Speaker 1:

Would you pay $333 to go watch someone get married? What it's happened? No, her name is Nova, his name is Remo. They sold tickets to their wedding to help recover cost. 60 guests paid $333 each to witness the couple tie the knot.

Speaker 2:

I'm getting out my calculator, okay 60 times 3, 33.

Speaker 1:

So how many thousands?

Speaker 2:

Almost. It's $20 short of $20,000. Whoa.

Speaker 1:

It's helped them recoup the money they spent on the wedding. They say Now here's what you get. You get to watch the wedding at the St Patrick's Cathedral I guess that's a beautiful location in New York. You get to tour various New York City landmarks and there's also a steak and lobster reception at the Freedom Tower. So that's all. You get all that stuff if you get to come watch the wedding.

Speaker 2:

Do you also get an Olympic gold medal? I mean like what are?

Speaker 1:

you paying for? You're paying to watch them get married. So they, I guess, paid too much for stuff that they were going to do, Too much for the church, Too much. For the dresses, the tuxes and the whole flowers Paid too much and they said we've got to make some money back Because we're going to go into the hole right off the bat. Well, you should have thought about that before you did all this stuff that's on you.

Speaker 2:

I'm never getting married again, but if I ever did, I think I would have my wedding out in like a pasture somewhere.

Speaker 1:

That's a good move.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and not even decorate. Just be there, y'all, bring your lawn chairs and just don't make sure you watch for the patties, the patties. Yeah, you got to watch for the patties. But, I think I'll just get married out in the field.

Speaker 1:

Would there be cows allowed Goats oh?

Speaker 2:

yeah, donkeys, animals welcomed and needed. Yeah, I'll say I do. I want my ring bear to be a goat, oh Nah, and to bring in my ring.

Speaker 1:

Wouldn't that be a Well? I think it might eat the ring.

Speaker 2:

Oh it would, It'd eat anything.

Speaker 1:

And what about the flower girl?

Speaker 2:

Oh easy, that's Sand.

Speaker 1:

Mountain Sam. Then you've got a problem with the other animals trying to eat the flowers Like the goat?

Speaker 2:

Yes, do you think Sand Mountain Sam would?

Speaker 1:

lost in the goat first, sam would do great.

Speaker 2:

Sam would do great. He would carry it down with so much grace On his long tail. Yes, you could put the rings on his tail, on his possum tail.

Speaker 1:

Yes, you can put the rings on his tail, on his possum tail On his little possum tail.

Speaker 2:

And have you ever seen their hands? Yes, their little hands, they're so cute. Little tiny fingers. If you don't know what possum hands look like, you've got to Google it.

Speaker 1:

It's so cute, we'll go to Sand Mountain Sam sometimes, yes, so $333 each you had to pay to go watch them get married.

Speaker 2:

That is ridiculous. I would decline, no, no, and you get no gift. No For even asking me to pay over $300 to watch. You say I do.

Speaker 1:

Doesn't even include the honeymoon.

Speaker 2:

I do not care that much to pay $333. For anybody like for any of my friends. I'm sorry, I'm just not paying $300 to come to your wedding. You missed that didn't you, yeah, I did.

Speaker 1:

You'll catch it on the podcast.

Speaker 3:

Oh no, yeah, it's 7 39 barry and holly on alabama's country, giant wqsb well, she's been gone for a few days.

Speaker 1:

We we don't know where she was.

Speaker 2:

We missed her. I do. She told me where she was going. Oh really yeah, sorry when was I Holly? Girl talk, this is girl secret. Fine, fine, you can't know.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, that's fine, that's fine. Well, she's back, rachel's back, glad to have you back the head. There we go, all right.

Speaker 2:

Well, I don't want that now, Because people say we want to hear everything Rachel says.

Speaker 1:

They're just waiting, they're waiting. They're on the edge of their seat, they're on the edge of their seat. What is she going to say next? They just pulled over from the side of the road. They did that. Darn Rachel, they call her.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I would compare it to a national holiday, when she talks yeah, wow, every voice, or everything that she utters, everybody listens, everybody listens.

Speaker 1:

Yes, to what Rachel has to say Quit kissing up, you've already got paid, I know.

Speaker 2:

I know I did get paid, but I want.

Speaker 1:

Because we have direct deposit.

Speaker 2:

now there's other things I want, though.

Speaker 1:

Well, there's no need to kiss it up. You've already got your money.

Speaker 2:

It's already been put into I know, yeah, not much of it though, so don't come for me, because I ain't worth much.

Speaker 1:

She's back for one reason not to see you. She wants to hear what you've got to say about knowledge, Knowledge nuggets. What have you got today?

Speaker 2:

Okay. So survey says that 40% of men admit to playing up their cold and flu symptoms to get attention.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yup, I believe it. Yup, so you're saying that men fake it? How bad off they are, more than women.

Speaker 2:

Yes, they make it out to be a little bit worse than it actually is. It's called a man cold.

Speaker 1:

Gotcha, that's what it is. Do you know of anybody in particular who does this? Anybody in the family?

Speaker 2:

Every one of my exes that I've ever had. Okay, that's a good I've ever had.

Speaker 4:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Good answer. Good answer. Yeah, what about you? Do you play it up? I'll be honest.

Speaker 1:

I haven't had a cold. I probably will get one tonight, oh you better knock on wood. Yeah, in about five years. Really, I really haven't. I'm lucky I'll get laryngitis from talking, doing basketball and football, but it's not a cold.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

It's not cold related, it's just talking too much. But when I get one, I don't know. I don't see the sense in that. If you get it, just go on, just quit whining. I hate whiners.

Speaker 2:

I whine when I'm sick.

Speaker 1:

I know you do.

Speaker 2:

I do. I don't feel good. I get irritable. I do, too, have to get done and there's no. I mean we just drive through it, we don't have time to sit around and be sick.

Speaker 4:

No, we have to go.

Speaker 2:

Men can just lay up and put their feet up and get a cold wash off over their head, Just suffer. Maybe and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt Maybe a man's cold is ten times worse than a woman's.

Speaker 1:

I bet More men have died from a cold than women. That must be what it is Colds kill more men than it's a new fact.

Speaker 2:

No, I just read it this morning. No, it's not true, I read it.

Speaker 4:

That's Barry's nugget for this morning.

Speaker 1:

I read it. That's Barry's nugget for this morning. I read it, and then I read it, your one nugget is the false.

Speaker 2:

Okay, fine, what else Okay? So millions, millions of women's swimsuits are purchased every year, but of all those swimsuits, 77% of women only wear that swimsuit one time.

Speaker 1:

One time 77%.

Speaker 2:

That's kind of high. Yeah, that's a little high. If I'm going to spend the money on a bathing suit, then I'm going to wear it.

Speaker 1:

Did you buy a new one this year? I?

Speaker 2:

only have one bathing suit.

Speaker 1:

Okay, is it new this year? Yes, I mean, did you wear it more than once?

Speaker 2:

Yes, Okay, Every time I went to my parents I wore it Tan lines. You know, like when you change up your bathing suits you get different tan lines and stuff. I've had the same bathing suit all year, and so I just have one solid strop. Me too, I look like I'm wearing an invisible bathing suit.

Speaker 1:

So what do you think some women are only wearing at one time.

Speaker 2:

Maybe they have too many to choose from, maybe.

Speaker 1:

They can't stand being seen in it, because we had a survey you did this on Knowledge Nuggets months ago. Women would rather go to the dentist than go try on a swimsuit.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I would really, especially if you're going to throw in the laughing gas when you're trying on the swimsuit. If you put me on the gas, I'll try on a swimsuit.

Speaker 1:

Well, can the Martins hear your laughing gas? Go try something on.

Speaker 2:

Oh thank you, I visit Martins every day. I'm joking. Let's go to Martins.

Speaker 3:

Let's get together.

Speaker 1:

What else?

Speaker 2:

Okay, in a recent survey, the top two memorable advertising fictional characters. So think about Pillsbury Doughboy. Okay, the top two of all time. What would you guess Like for you?

Speaker 1:

So these are fictional advertising characters.

Speaker 2:

If you could pick one, I would say Tony the Tiger. That's a good one, tony. The Tiger's a good one.

Speaker 1:

This rings a bell because I've always remembered him from cartoons.

Speaker 2:

Mine would be the Pillsbury Doughboy. Doughboy, yeah, especially like Michelin man, that's one think those are pretty well known, but the top two memorable are the Jolly Green Giant.

Speaker 1:

That's a good one.

Speaker 2:

And this is probably the most famous, because it's global Ronald McDonald.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes, I agree with that.

Speaker 2:

Definitely agree with that.

Speaker 1:

And I'll tell you I agree with the Jolly Green Giant because here's why, when Reagan was little, she loved little green peas, uh-huh. But she didn't call them green peas because she had seen the commercials, seen the kids. She called them ho-ho-ho balls.

Speaker 2:

Because he goes ho-ho-ho.

Speaker 1:

Green giant. She wanted ho-ho-ho balls.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh, that's so cute, so that's why she remembers it as a kid.

Speaker 1:

That stuck out in her mind. How old was she? Probably three, four years old. Oh, that's so cute. So I can see why the Jolly Green Giant is memorable to some kid people.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Are there any other ones you can think of?

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, there's.

Speaker 1:

Toucan Sam from Fruit Loops.

Speaker 2:

There is Flo from Progressive. She's fictional.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I mean, she's not it doesn't say animated.

Speaker 1:

Snap, crackle and Pop from the Rice Krispies those three guys those elves Keebler elves Keebler's a good one. Oh, there's a lot of them, yeah, there's a lot of them, but the most.

Speaker 2:

Two popular are Jolly.

Speaker 1:

Green.

Speaker 2:

Giant and Ronald McDonald.

Speaker 1:

I agree. Yep, that's it. Thanks, Rachel 754.

Speaker 3:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

Have you seen the video of the two kayakers in California and there's a great white shark following them in the water, just feet behind their kayak.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I saw it.

Speaker 1:

They're guessing at least a 14-foot great white shark. They were kayaking and one of them they were like 20, 30 yards apart and he looked over and saw what looked to be a shark. Then he looked closer and said, yes, that was a shark and he was following behind his buddy, not far behind him.

Speaker 2:

Oh no, oh gosh, it just got so suspenseful. I know, See, and this shark is right behind you.

Speaker 1:

Tell me the pick of the story Hurry, it's right behind you. And then it happened what. And then it happened what it went away.

Speaker 3:

Oh, okay, left him alone.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay, good, but for a few minutes they say that this shark that was following them and the experts think it was just watching. Curious, what was that? What is this? Okay, if you're the guy in the kayak in front of the shark, it shows the guy just kind of barely, I guess. Kayaking, paddling, not really going fast. I would have looked like a uh a cartoon, like a lunatune cartoon.

Speaker 1:

I would have been paddling so fast across the water I probably would have come up off of the water into the air and paddling air trying to get away, but you said we're talking about this and you said you're not gonna outrun it. No, you cannot. Swim it, you cannot. Or out swim it no, you cannot.

Speaker 2:

But I'd give it one heck of a try. There have been so many shark bites this year yeah, so many. I've never heard of so many reports of shark bites that I have this year, have you?

Speaker 1:

There's been a lot of them, not just on one coast, no, no, everywhere.

Speaker 2:

On one coast? No, no, everywhere.

Speaker 1:

This particular shark is off the coast of California.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Now the guy's fine. It didn't attack anybody, it was just following him, just being curious. So what would you have done if you were in the kayak in front?

Speaker 2:

Okay, if I'm the one being followed, being followed, I would turn around and boop it on the nose with my paddle.

Speaker 1:

Boop it, yep. What if I just made a man?

Speaker 2:

I'd say boop like that, I'd slap it.

Speaker 1:

I'd slap it real hard, then you'd grab the paddle and pulled it out of your hands. What would you do then?

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'd flip over in the kayak and then I'd be a really nice little snack for 14-foot great shark.

Speaker 1:

You'd be like a piece of meat on a cracker. Yup, holly Durr, would be what it would be. That would be what she would be. Right there, holly Durr. Yeah, now, if you're the guy in the other kayak, instead of filming I would have turned my kayak around and went the other way.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that's smart. Get it far away from you. Would leave your buddy.

Speaker 1:

Be good to see anybody.

Speaker 2:

Goodbye. Friend. It's been a long fun journey.

Speaker 1:

It comes down to the fact that who can paddle the fastest.

Speaker 2:

No, I would record it too. I think that I would record it, yeah, and I think I'd be amazed. I don't know, I don't know what triggers sharks Like. I know they smell blood and stuff, but I don't know if they're naturally aggressive or if they're just aggressive when provoked.

Speaker 1:

We don't know, nobody knows.

Speaker 2:

I don't know either.

Speaker 1:

Until we have a shark week trying to figure it out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, just trying to figure out the shark dilemma.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, nobody was attacked, but that's weird. The 14-foot shark was following behind that guy. Yeah, just watching him. That's creepy.

Speaker 2:

Ooh creepy.

Speaker 1:

It's 8.15.

Speaker 3:

Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB Mornings crime story I hate to hear stories like this, but it's happening a lot.

Speaker 1:

A Springfield man was arrested Tuesday after an alarm at a local bank went off. Police got there. The guy was sitting there waiting for the police to arrive. Here's what the guy did. He walked in. He's 72 years old, has a walker, what To get around? True story. He walked in, handed a note to the bank employee, said give me some money she puts and put it in an envelope. She put some money in an envelope, handed it to him and then he turned around, walked over and sat down till the police arrived and they asked him. He said because he had nowhere to go.

Speaker 2:

That's pitiful.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he wanted medical care and he knew that if he could get arrested again because he'd been arrested some times before that he would go back to prison and they could take care of him.

Speaker 2:

You know, I've heard a lot of stories that people when they get out of prison they have nowhere to go. That's true, and they commit a crime because they get they call it three hots in a cot. You get three hot meals, yeah, and you get a cot to lay your head down, and that's more than what they have on the outside world.

Speaker 1:

Isn't that pitiful, yeah because they knew he had a record and he would be in there for a while and during that time he could get medical care. That's pitiful, that is, that is sand you shouldn't be doing what you did, but still he felt like he had no choice I'm not gonna get political yeah but I am gonna say the health care in our country is lacking.

Speaker 2:

It's tough, it is. It is tough and that man should be able to get himself taken care of. He's 72 years old he's lived a whole life, he's worked, he's raised babies, he's been there for people I'm sure he's somebody's daddy, somebody's friend and then to get health care he just goes to rob a bank and his walker.

Speaker 1:

Take me in with his walker. That is awful.

Speaker 2:

I thought you were going to say he was going to use his walker as a weapon or something.

Speaker 1:

No no. He had to have it just to get around. It's pitiful, it is. But as far as we know he was taken in Medical care. I guess I don't know. I hope, I hope he got what he needed All right and a special guest joining us. I had a pleasure following this man for many years, coaching around the area. Coach, drew Knowles, coach, how are you doing this morning Doing?

Speaker 4:

very well, Good to be here and thanks for having us.

Speaker 1:

Oh, thanks for coming and joining us, because you've got something special now. Coach Underwood from Snead reached out to me about a week ago and said hey, we've got something that's going to be going on at Snead and I think Coach Knowles needs to come out and talk about this, and I said what is it? He sent me a flyer and I said this is outstanding. I don't remember hearing about. Is this the first time this is happening at sneed?

Speaker 4:

at sneed. It is, it's. It's something that's been going on since 2008. We it was at boas high school, right, and then when we went to etowah high school's coach, we, we took it with us and it was successful. There went to west brook christian and they they still have and it's called the fca bow fellowship christian athlete and, um, it was really a vision for us in 2008.

Speaker 4:

In the very first year we did it, we had 258 kids sign up, wow, and so what it is? It's tag football, um, and we have two divisions one's first grade through third grade, and then the second division is fourth grade through sixth grade, and our thought was, um, we know that parents are busy, we know the kids are super busy and everybody's always rushed around and and and so much of our life is set there waiting on our kid to get finished with practice and all that. And so we said, well, let's, let's do a league and we don't practice. And so, um, it's very organized, there are rules with this and that you're on a team. We have a winner every week, we have overtime rules, we have it's very organized up, but at the same time, it's one hour a week, right, and it's fun. And so this year what we're doing is sunday afternoons and and I know that sounds a little different, but we it is a ministry, it's an opportunity for for to share with young people, but ultimately it's one hour on a Sunday, from 2.30 to 3.30. And at the end of that we're going to have homemade ice cream. Different churches in the community will come out and do popsicle, homemade ice cream, that kind of thing at the end of it. But the Snead State athletes and Sneed state cheerleaders will lead this. It's it's good for them because they realize what kind of hero, what kind of role model they are and they're not just thrown out there. We have training for them starting next week where they're going to actually be trained on how to lead um. So it's been really, really good for them. As for mentoring, they see the platform that they have. It also gives these young kids somebody to look up to. It's truly one of the most fun things kids do.

Speaker 4:

A lot of times there's a lot of pressure. People bring lawn chairs and they sit and they watch a kid play. There's no hollering and screaming, there's no pressure, and they get ice cream at the end of it. And I look back with my two kids. They both came through this and, um, they would tell you that it's probably the best thing they ever did. And uh, again, we've had thousands, literally thousands of kids come through this program. Um, and, and I don't know of one that ever said I wish I hadn't done that. Right, and so truly a blessing.

Speaker 4:

Um, but we need people to register gotcha and um we, our registration is supposed to go through august the 18th, which is sunday. You can go to sneed state, fca bow at gmailcom or you can contact me and my phone number is 256-558-6161. And what we've tried to do in the whole county, up to Geraldine in DeKalb County, down to Duck Springs in Etowah County, is put a flyer in every child's hand. But we also know that that flyer you may not have a lot of information about it, so please feel free to contact us. We really are excited about this. We know we could have done this at Boaz or Albertville or at Duck, but we know everybody gets along with Snead State. Oh yeah, there's no rivalry with Snead State. That's something that we all love, and so Coach Underwood's been amazing, the president has been amazing behind this.

Speaker 4:

So it's many cheerleading for first grade through sixth grade, led by Snead State cheerleaders, and it's tag football, first through third grade and then fourth through sixth grade league, and then we have a championship play every Sunday from 2.30 to 3.30. And there's homemade ice cream at the end of it. And if your church is interested in being one of the sponsors for homemade ice cream, they can also contact me. We have a couple of dates left. And the last thing is $40 a child. They do receive a Bible, they receive a shirt that is the color of their team.

Speaker 4:

But we have been so blessed We've got so many men that have called and said, hey, I will scholarship a kid, receive a shirt that is the color of their team. But we have been so blessed We've got so many men that have called and said, hey, I will scholarship a kid. If money is an obstacle, it's not an obstacle. That's awesome, it's taken care of. There's not one child that ever needs to say, well, we can't afford it, it's taken care of and it will never be spoken of again. And so we're so thankful of so in the community who are want to stay anonymous and they take care of everybody. So, um, anyway, we we would love for people to join us and and be a part. So, uh, it's two, five, six, five, five, eight, six, one, six one. Or you can go to sneed state fca bow at gcom and I pray that your child got one of these papers in their hand. If not, you can go to SneadStateFCABow and get all the information.

Speaker 1:

And you can call us here. The games will be on the Snead State baseball field and, like you were saying, an hour on a Sunday you get out of church looking for something to do about 2, 3,. Take the kids over there, you can sit watch, have fun, eat ice cream, get a Bible and just have a good time.

Speaker 4:

That's right. It's good fellowship. It's good for communities. It's good for communities. We're going to also use the softball fields. We pray that we have enough teams, that we're all over the place. Again, when we were at Boaz, we had eight games going. At one time we were 16 teams at Boaz and at Westbrook. Now they have 12 teams. So this is something that is a proven product. We need people to register up, so we're excited about what the future holds.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so if you have a child who's not maybe they are or are not playing organized sports in school this is perfect for them.

Speaker 4:

And that's another, and I appreciate you saying that they can play tackle football and come over on Sunday and play tag football.

Speaker 1:

They can play fall baseball this is one hour no practice.

Speaker 4:

There is zero practice, right, so you can be involved with other things. And, again, that's why we did it on Sunday. Nope, there's not a lot going on on Sunday afternoon, so it's a ministry opportunity, but it's also it's a fun opportunity. So bring a lawn chair, come out and watch some ball sign your kids up soon.

Speaker 1:

They'll registration august 18th, so it's coming up this weekend and the games begin september the 8th, so still time to register. But you need to hurry and, uh, trust me, I think you will. The kids will get something out of it and the parents also will get something out of this without a doubt, and it's, and it's just a good laid-back atmosphere.

Speaker 4:

There's still competition, there's a champion at the end of it because that's real world. There's going to be a winner at the end of it. But at the same time, we're all winning because the last week we're going to share the plan of salvation, which has just really been a blessing.

Speaker 1:

Coach, thank you so much for being part of this and thank you to Snead State for allowing this to happen. Coach Underwood, we appreciate you. Coach Knowles, thank you so much for coming in.

Speaker 4:

Thank you, Barry. Thanks for allowing us to be here.

Speaker 1:

If you need more details, just give us a call here at QSB. And before we go, the morning's quote of the day, this one from Elvis Presley Elvis Presley himself, are you okay? I'm okay. It always tucks me up when I talk about the king. No, but seriously, you know, I didn't realize that he had quotes that people were actually still repeating.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I know he's in a lot of movies, of course, many, many great songs, but this quote when I saw this, I thought I think we need to mention this. Yeah, it's short but it's powerful.

Speaker 2:

It says ambition is a dream with a V8 engine.

Speaker 1:

That's a big engine.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And that tells me that's kind of like the way Elvis lived his life. He did everything. He did so much stuff in a short period of time. He died when he was what? 42?, 42. But he accomplished a lot because he was always doing it just wide open, whether it was movies or singing or tours or whatever TV shows, whatever he was doing. And I think that's a good way to live life, not necessarily wide open, but give it all you've got, because you never know how long that window of opportunity is going to stay open with your talents.

Speaker 2:

That you have yeah.

Speaker 1:

Don't just sit there and have talents and say, eh, not going to do it. Or just kind of halfway do it. Give it all you've got.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I think that's what it takes. If you have a dream, put it v8 engine on it and ride that thing and get going, get going is that what you're doing, would you say, since you came to work here about a year ago? I would say yeah, and you're giving it everything you've got I've given it everything I've got.

Speaker 2:

It's something that I've practiced. I'll practice my car. I do um practice at home. I practice on the phone with my mom, like literally, I will say hey, mom, pretend like you're on the radio with me yeah well, you just cannot halfway do what you've done and be successful.

Speaker 1:

You've got to give it your best and you've been successful. You've done a great job with us oh thanks and you've given it everything you've got. You've been wide open. You don't just kind of come into work like this you know walking around in, you know walking around in slow motion Like the oar. Yeah, walking around in slow motion, just not really caring. Whatever you do, you give it all you've got.

Speaker 2:

Well, thanks, that means a lot.

Speaker 1:

Well, that's true, and like Elvis said, ambition is a dream. With a V8 engine, whatever your dream is, give it all you've got.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, don't just sit around just wasting your time and wasting your talent yeah, because there's a lot of the world that can be so good and if you just get out and see it for yourself and just keep pushing forward, keep going every day and I'll be honest, I've done a lot of sports over my years.

Speaker 1:

What's a lot of young men come through and young ladies who are very talented had great, uh great talents and they just. You can talk to some of the coaches and say that just didn't give it all they had and they wasted their talents. And they regret it down the road years later, saying I wish I had tried harder when I was doing this sport or doing that sport, but then it's too late.

Speaker 2:

It's too late. It can be too late, but not always. If you are living and have breath, you still have purpose on this world. So you still have ambition. There, you go Now, it's 8 to 56.
