Speaker 1I'm walking on sunshine. Good morning, it's 6.08. I'm walking on sunshine, that'd be hot. It hurts to even walk on pavement right now.
Speaker 2I know I'm walking on asphalt oh Whoa.
Speaker 3Yeah, yes.
Speaker 2I was walking my dog and I was thinking he kept trying to get out in the grass and I was like you know, you stay on the road, my guy, because I thought he was trying to use the bathroom.
Speaker 1See, I think he was trying to keep his paws cool, very, very hot out there yes, I would let him walk in the grass see, I have to rename that to walking on grass because 95 will be the high today. Heat index 100 to 105. Some areas up to 107.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1This will be the hottest day of the week. Okay, they say a cool front's coming in starting tomorrow. It drops down to 93. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2That's the cool front.
Speaker 1Cool front tomorrow.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1That does get better later in the weekend. Seriously, by the end of the weekend, like sunday, it drops to the upper 80s, which is still warm but a whole lot better than what we've had the last few days, and the chance of rain does pick up. Sunday 50, 50. Labor day slide chance 87. Tuesday and wednesday middle part of next week about a 60 to 70% chance of rain and cooler Low 80s and up Wednesday's high next week is upper 70s.
Speaker 4Ooh, yes, I like that.
Speaker 1Next weekend's going to be a whole lot better than this weekend. Heading out to a high school football game Do be careful Players, band cheerleaders, anybody going to a game Because we actually have one tonight. As far as local, you can listen to it on WKXX 102.9, southside at Hoax Bluff, a kickoff at 7. And tomorrow night you can listen to the Boise-Albertville game on Power 107.5. Pre-game 6.30, kickoff at 7. And a lot of college football tonight too. You've got UAB playing Jacksonville State plays coming up tonight. So you've got a lot of college football tonight. And then, of course, a whole bunch of them coming up Saturday, with Alabama and Auburn both playing Saturday. As far as TV, alabama, they're playing at 6 Saturday night. That'll be on ESPN against Western Kentucky, auburn also 6.30, but they're on ESPN+. They're playing Alabama A&M. So there you have it. Football is here.
Speaker 1Football's, here it's time for dips, and chilly dips Like seven-layer dip Rotel dip oh, like a spittoon dip I didn't know what you were dipping there.
Speaker 2No, my mama dip though your mother. My mama. I did too Dip snuff.
Speaker 1Yours did Bruton, yeah, yeah. She said go get me my.
Speaker 2Bruton, it was powdery, it wasn't shredded.
Speaker 1It was like powder. She put it on the next to her chicken gum there.
Speaker 2I wonder if that's a generational thing.
Speaker 1I bet it was.
Speaker 2Because my mama did it, because I've never seen you, dip. No, not at work I.
Speaker 1Really, you're a dipper.
Speaker 2I did take a dare one time and it made me so sick.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, I did. You didn't swallow the juice, did you?
Speaker 2I did. Yeah, my brother dared me. See, I have three brothers. One of them's only four years older than me. Yeah, he's the one that I grew up with in the house.
Speaker 1He's one that dared you.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm, yeah, he it. And so I was like okay, I'll do it.
Speaker 1Threw up everywhere I get it sick.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's good have you ever tried?
Speaker 1it. No, I never have my brothers used to, but I never did yeah, you shouldn't, don't ever do it. No, I'm planning on it no plans in the near future. Hey, I do plan on tomorrow being a big debt because we have a whole bunch of stuff to give away.
Speaker 2It's our anniversary it's our anniversary, barry yeah the one year anniversary of the barry Holly morning show and also our 100th podcast episode. It's just meant to be, and we're also going to be honoring Reed Galloway your son tomorrow will be three years that Reed has passed and we want to do something for him, and so we'll have something planned. Yeah, because the last two years I really just didn't think I could work something for him, and so we'll have something planned.
Speaker 1Yeah, because the last two years I really just didn't think I could work. Yeah, I don't blame you.
Speaker 2But this year you're persevering and you're pushing through, and I think that that is part of the healing process. I don't think you should feel any guilt. Do you feel any guilt?
Speaker 1I did. Thinking about the first two years, I thought, out of respect, I think I don't need to work.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1I think I just need to take the day off? Yeah, but the way it turned out is I do football for Albertville and there's a game tomorrow night, so I really need to be doing the game anyway. So since I'm going to be doing the game, I thought you know, maybe it's time I do just a full day of work.
Speaker 2yeah, may get my mind off of it yeah, well, I I would like for you to come into work, because I know what you will be doing if you don't yeah, I do too and I want you to be here, just be sitting in the house, yeah being depressed yeah, because it's the hardest day of the year it is because one of the things we can talk more about this later, but I know minute by minute because he died unexpectedly.
Speaker 1Yes, and we can talk more about that, but I know minute by minute exactly, because it happened at 3.39 in the morning. And people when I was getting ready to go to work. Yeah, when I found him.
Speaker 2And you replay this in your mind and you even have dreams about it, About the Not on purpose.
Speaker 1You can't help it, yeah, but anyway. Yeah, but it's going to be. We're going to make it a good day. We are, because we have a whole bunch of stuff. We have concert tickets yes, jamie Johnson. We have Chattanooga tickets.
Speaker 2Food tickets.
Speaker 1A lot of food to give away.
Speaker 2We even have Willow's bringing me some kind of basket Two baskets. So what we're going to do is we're going to be having giveaways all morning. You have to be listening to the play, but if you can't listen in the morning, we're going to have a podcast post and we'll have a grand prize giveaway for that. And we'll announce that Monday morning.
Speaker 1We're bringing in the prize wheel in here, calling it the Wheel of.
Speaker 3Waddles.
Speaker 1So we're saluting one of our highlights of the past year, which was also a lowlight. We found Waddles, tried to save him and unfortunately couldn't do it, but just the fact that everybody was so supportive. We want to salute Waddles again Waddles the goose. In case you don't know the story, we'll tell you about it tomorrow.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1But we'll have a wheel. We'll spin the wheel or the listeners' wheel. We'll spin it in here for you and we'll tell you what you win.
Speaker 2Oh yeah.
Speaker 1So, anyway, that's going to be going on all day tomorrow. How do you know? How does this know? Things going on Thursday, august the 29th Almost finished with another month.
Speaker 2I know September's coming, which means rant is due. Yeah, yep, today is National Lemon Juice Day.
Speaker 1I love lemons.
Speaker 2Very exciting.
Speaker 1There's not much going on today in the world, when you have to salute lemon juice, I know, and I even looked it up.
Speaker 2What national day, is it Like. Could we find an alternative?
Speaker 1No, no, did you look? Nope, I looked. I mean, it's not the whole lemon. Even the whole lemon is not, no, it's just the juice. Now, I love lemon meringue pies and I can make a lemon meringue pie.
Speaker 2Do you put the lemon juice in? Yes, I do, okay, okay.
Speaker 1So the difference in key lime pie and lemon meringue is basically the juice Key lime lime juice.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Lemon meringue, lemon juice. That's about it, okay.
Speaker 2Well, some people believe that placing lemon slices close to your bed removes toxins from the air and helps you sleep, because lemon is a natural stress reliever.
Speaker 1I believe that Lemon also does a lot of good for you.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1Whenever I'm battling like a sore throat or laryngitis. I can put some lemon, a lot of lemon juice, in water and heat it up a little bit and put it in tea and it really the acid can cut the junk on your throat. Basically, yeah, that's gross, yeah, it's gross, yeah it is, but it works, but it works.
Speaker 2Yeah, so happy National Lemon Juice Day, barry.
Fun Musings on Alligators and Lemons
Speaker 1Well, thank you very much.
Speaker 2What kind of lemons help with charity?
Speaker 1I don't have one. Okay, only one, only one. What kind of lemons help with charity? I don't know.
Speaker 2Lemonades, lemonades, I, lemonades, lemonades. I'm glad you only have one, I know. I know how many lemon jokes can you have?
Speaker 4before you've run out.
Speaker 1You've worn out your welcome. One's plenty, one's plenty here's something you need to know.
Speaker 2An alligator in Botswana is said to be 123 years old. How do they know?
Speaker 1Yeah, how do we know? Do we have a birth certificate?
Speaker 2I know Was his date of birth signed.
Speaker 1How do we know 123, an alligator?
Speaker 2Yeah, he's the oldest living known reptile in the world. I mean, how would you know if one outlived it you?
Speaker 1don't know. It's not like rings on a tree you can't cut it open and count how many rings are in it. No, there's probably thousands of them out in swamps and like in Louisiana.
Speaker 2We don't know. In Florida we don't know.
Speaker 1Yeah, you don't know Probably one older than this man right now he's listening to the podcast later and said I'm going to go over there.
Speaker 2He's 123. I'm 147. I didn't get my recognition.
Speaker 1That little whippersnapper. He thinks he's old.
Speaker 2Well, I got to tell you this. This is kind of reminds me of Nick babies.
Speaker 1How do we know that I?
Speaker 4don't know.
Speaker 1Okay, well, I guess if he does live in the zoo, then you kind of know who the daddy is.
Speaker 2Well, yeah, if he's the only male, 10,000. 10,000 babies, that's a busy gator. Yeah, it is. See you later.
Speaker 1No, I'm going to see you right now. 10,000 little alligator babies. Okay, you just figured that. I didn't.
Speaker 2No, I'm looking at something.
Speaker 1I've never noticed this before what you're about to say.
Speaker 2Okay. So it's really cool how the word okay is a sideways person, so flip the word sideways. Help me out, okay.
Speaker 1I have the word okay, flip it sideways.
Speaker 2Flip it, okay, see, there's his head, there's his little arms.
Speaker 1Oh, I see it now.
Speaker 2There's his legs. There's his legs.
Speaker 1I've never noticed it until I read it this morning.
Speaker 2Okay. So if you're at your phone, type in the word OK in all caps.
Speaker 1Don't do this while driving.
Speaker 2No, not OKAY, Do OK, and it's a sideways person.
Speaker 1It is yeah, turn it sideways. Huh, then, where the O is kind of like on top, it is a little stick man.
Speaker 2Yeah, it looks like he's doing a little shimmy A little shimmy.
Speaker 1See, it doesn't take much to amaze us no, huh, that's cool. I'd never noticed that before.
Speaker 2Where'd you find these?
Speaker 1things I don't know.
Speaker 3I was looking up. There's pictures of it and that one just popped up. I like it All right. 618. Mornings with Barry and Hall here on Alabama's country, giant WQSB.
Speaker 1Since you've been gone, here's what's been happening in the world. We stay away from the politics, from the sad stories, the depressing stories, and find you happy stories like stories about cucumbers.
Cucumber Shortage and Badminton Distraction
Speaker 2Yep stories about cucumbers. Tiktok is being blamed for a shortage of cucumbers in Iceland. Have you seen the video?
Speaker 1You were showing me one a few minutes ago. Yeah, so it's just this guy.
Speaker 2He's an influencer named Logan Moffitt.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 2He did a viral video where he made a cucumber salad Okay, okay, he did a viral video where he made a cucumber salad, okay Okay. Farmers are struggling to keep up with the demand and hope supply will be normal about in a week, but experts have issued a warning in Iceland. A warning Listen to this, listen closely. Okay, because of this huge upsurge in sales in cucumbers, experts have issued a warning.
Speaker 1What does a warning say?
Speaker 2While cucumbers are a great source of vitamins, yes, they are Eating them excessively, you say it.
Speaker 1Excessively.
Speaker 2That's a hard word. No, you say it.
Speaker 1It could trigger flatulence and diarrhea.
Speaker 2I didn't want to say it.
Speaker 1Yeah, eating too many cucumbers, which apparently the guy has more than one video.
Speaker 2Well, they're full of water, yes, so.
Speaker 1I could see why this would be a thing they always give me like a burp, a lot eating cucumbers.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah, but I love. Can I tell you something weird? Okay, they're like good burps, they taste good. Ooh, I know.
Speaker 1There's no such thing.
Speaker 2Yes or diarrhea, None. Sometimes Yep. Just depends on you know who's around, what you're doing. Okay, you talk, tell the story. No, we're not going to tell the name, but tell the story of what the guy used to do here yesterday. What do you tell me?
Speaker 1Well, there was one guy that there was a, he had gas all the time and he gets like I don't know, he gets like just pull it up on demand, on demand. Yeah, one of them. There was a can of Pringles sitting out there in the lobby. He went out there and got the can of Pringles and passed gas in it, put the lid on it and, sure enough, the person later staff member came by and said I ain't got some, grab some pringles.
Speaker 2They opened the can and it was still there oh, you didn't tell me that, so anyway, yeah, is that true he's a sniffer?
Speaker 5yeah, he is.
Speaker 2He's a sniffer, yeah he is Okay, moving on. What's the next one Moving on? Top government officials in Hong Kong are advising young unmarried adults to avoid temptation by distracting themselves. Okay, Relationship education materials published last week instruct young adults to play badminton when they feel like getting intimate with their partner.
Speaker 1They're saying they're having too many children, too much so they have to cut back on too many kids being born. They're advising you so, instead of making out, just play badminton. This is true, that's what they recommend, they recommend the thing just play badminton. This is true. Oh baby, I'm so worked up I've got to play some badminton. I'm telling you, I'm picturing the last thing you want to do being, if you're a young adult is to play badminton, swinging a paddle or a racket. Pickleball is definitely a oh.
Speaker 2God, you've got to watch where the paddle goes. Sure do.
Speaker 1Easy, easy. That was long Serving's fine, but but anyway they sent out reports urging people to play badminton.
Speaker 2They're saying hey, y'all, instead of getting hot and heavy, can you just play badminton? Instead, we're really trying to cut down on the population.
Speaker 1Yeah, just go outside and play badminton, get your mind off of it.
Speaker 2I always heard of cold shower, but now it's badminton.
Speaker 1Now it's badminton. I've never thought about that.
Speaker 2Yeah. Well, in response, young adults have started to poke fun at the advice. They've started renaming friends with benefits as friends with badminton on social media.
Speaker 1This is funny.
Speaker 2This is my friends with badminton.
Speaker 1So now, the next time you see somebody neighbors in the yard playing badminton, you say hmm, okay, well, I guess they were. They were wanting to yeah but you know what I'm going to find? A little birdie.
Speaker 2They were wanting to. You know what I'm going to find a little birdie. If I was in Hong Kong and I went out on a date and I looked in the back seat and saw a badminton paddle, I would be worried. I would be like, do they plan on getting hot and heavy with me?
Speaker 1Well, and then they need to play badminton. I'd feel relieved, thinking, okay, nothing's going to happen, we're going to play a little badminton. Just going to get relieved thinking, okay, nothing's gonna happen, we're gonna play a little badminton, it's gonna get the old birdie around. Yeah, it's 6, 30, barry and holly on alabama's country giant wqsb. Looking to a couple of listeners we ran into yesterday I was at a food city, uh, picking up some stuff, and I heard someone uh say hey, hey, barry gallow turned around and it was Sage, a young lady from Crossville. She was with her mom doing a little shopping and I appreciate them listening to us.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1That's why we give them a shout-out this morning.
Speaker 2Good morning Sage.
Speaker 1Yeah, thank you for listening.
Speaker 2Yeah, and I had a run-in yesterday too, yeah, it was so neat because we both ran into people. But I met Paisley yesterday at Buffalo Wild Wings. I walked in and she was so excited. Her mom said she's starstruck.
Speaker 1Yes, it made me feel so good. So about how old was Paisley? She's nine years old, oh, and Paisley's a listener.
Speaker 2Paisley's a listener. She had some brothers and siblings, and mom and dad were there, so thank you all for letting them listen to us, because the parents are the ones that set the tone for the day, and if you choose us to set the tone for your morning. We are so honored and thank you.
Speaker 1Thank you so much for listening. We appreciate that and listening and watching. You need to watch. We have a lot of great videos on our Facebook page. This morning, family-friendly One is one of the funniest ones I've seen in a while. There's a baseball team, a baseball team. They have been training, working with this dog, this dog, then teaching it to be the bat dog. The dog will run out of the dugout occasionally, I guess. Pick up the bat when the batter has finished you know batting and bring the bat back to the dugout yeah, batter has finished batting and bring the bat back to the dugout.
Speaker 1That's his job. So they have a new dog. It's the first time down on the field, I think it's. If I read the story right, it's either it's brother, sister, mom. Something had to retire, so they bring this dog out. It's a Florida minor league baseball team. So it's Lucy May, 10-month-old lab.
Speaker 2Aw baby they turned Lucy loose.
Speaker 1Lucy runs towards home plate, runs past the bat and began doing circles around the field. It's like it's got the zoomies. It's just running around having a good time until all of a sudden, if you go to about the 42 second mark of the video on her Facebook page, it decides to use the bathroom right behind the pitcher's mound.
Speaker 2A one or a two? A two no.
Speaker 1It wasn't satisfied with just doing one it dropped off its brother too it dropped off another one right next to it, the crowd's going crazy loving it laughing and there's a pitcher warming up. He looks over like what the dog is taking a dump right next to him, so I guess the field crew has to come out and clean the field, I guess so. That is hilarious, that is hilarious.
Speaker 2If I was in the crowd I'd be going wild too. Go, lucy May.
Speaker 1Way to poop Dogs just don't care, they don't care.
Speaker 2Can I tell you a funny story, real quick Okay. So I was walking Doug in the neighborhood, that's your dog in the neighborhood. That's your dog. Yeah, Doug is my dog. We have a lot of dogs in the neighborhood. Doug is very what is it Not possessive or protective, but he's Help me.
Speaker 1Yeah, you mean over you.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's just.
Speaker 1Well, he's protective. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2So I was walking in the other day and he pees on the mailboxes and I let him Just a little tinkle, a little tinkle, just a little tinkle.
Speaker 1He's washing it off.
Speaker 2Well, the other day I saw him starting to squat, oh, and I pulled the leash and I said, no Doug, no when was he at he was on a mailbox On a mailbox. Yes, he hiked leg up as if to pee on it, as if to pee on.
Speaker 1It started peeing, yeah, and then did a number two at the same time with his leg in the air.
Speaker 2Tell me how that's possible? With his leg in the air with his leg in the air wow and I told doug you know what? I'm gonna make you famous for this I wouldn't even get mad over that I didn't I?
Speaker 1well, kind of, if I'm the neighbor I know I wouldn't have to come out and just applaud well, I would have to tell the neighbor.
Speaker 2excuse me, I know my dog pooped in your flower bed, but it's pretty darn amazing. It was amazing what I just saw.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2He just did a number three.
Speaker 1Wow in midair.
Speaker 2In midair With the leg lifted.
Speaker 1That's like America's Got Talent-worthy.
Speaker 2I know, but I'm not going to share them with the world. No, I'm just going to keep that little treasure for myself, because it would be tough to get him to do it over and over.
Speaker 1I couldn't see him being a Vegas act. No, that would be a lot to ask, doug.
Speaker 2It would. Poor little Lucy May, the 10-month-old lab. She's got all eyes on her, while she's just trying to ease about her. She don't care.
Speaker 1She don't care there behind the mound. Yeah, so check out the video. It's on our facebook at 6 40 wqsb mornings with barry and holly hot and humid.
Speaker 195 is going to feel like over 100. There's a heat advisory for a lot of the listening area. Be careful, rain, don't be surprised. But well, you probably will be surprised because there's only a 20 chance of rain today. You could see some rain possibly later on this afternoon. Time for holly's pile of stories, and you know we've been talking about America's Got Talent and I see your story here and I completely agree. What do you think?
Speaker 2I know, so I watched the finals last night. What do you think?
Speaker 1Well, not the finals, but it's close the whatever. And I agree, the comedian from, is it Zimbabwe?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think so he is good. He's really really good. He's hilarious, he's funny.
Speaker 1I think he has a chance to win it all.
Speaker 2A survey of TV fans found that America's Got Talent is the nation's favorite reality.
Speaker 1TV show. It's my favorite show. It's fun for the whole family.
Speaker 2Oh yeah. So number one is America's Got Talent and then number two is American Idol. I never thought America's Got Talent would jump over American Idol.
Speaker 1It's the most watched show every year in the world.
Speaker 2Number three comes in at Family Feud I love.
Speaker 1Family Feud he's my favorite.
Speaker 2Number four is MTV's Catfish.
Speaker 1That's surprising.
Speaker 2Yeah, have you watched it? Where's the Voice.
Speaker 1The Voice is not on here.
Speaker 2Oh it's not the Voice, and.
Speaker 1Big Brother's not on here, so some of the other ones Survivor Amazing Race not on here.
Speaker 2Yeah, Number five is 90 Day Fiance. I have to tell you that's my guilty pleasure.
Speaker 1Yes, what channel, what network is that? I think it's TLC, tlc, yeah.
Speaker 2Oh, gotcha, it's so trash but I love it. 90 day fiance oh my goodness I know well, shania twain will be partnering with the bar, restaurant and entertainment venue nashville underground, which sits on 105 broadway near the whiskey river saloon, exactly where that is do you yeah it's right there's. There's so many restaurants, slash bars owned by country stars yeah, yeah, morgan Wallen has one, luke Bryan has one, Jason.
Speaker 1Aldean has one Florida Georgia Line. Tons of them. It's 920 now she's about to have one.
Speaker 2She hopes to open a new establishment in the iconic Lower Broadway sometime in 2025. Okay, I know you're going to love this one because you love Jelly Roll.
Speaker 1Yes, I do.
Speaker 2So Jelly Roll on Tuesday night came across a lemonade stand, ran by a couple of kids from the neighborhood. Yeah, he stopped and he was like you know what, I'm going to buy some lemonade and he gave those kids $700.
Speaker 1That is cool, okay, so imagine he's going to a show. He's in Utah.
Speaker 2Yep.
Speaker 1His tour. They're on the way to the show. They stop and he sees a lemonade stand and says, pull over, guys, I've got to go get some lemonade.
Speaker 2Yes, he's all these little girls.
Speaker 1They said he emptied out every dollar he could find, even his manager. Everybody. He said give me your money. Everybody is throwing money in and he says here. He said he just wanted to teach the kids a lesson about you. Know you're doing a good thing.
Speaker 2Yeah, and you should get rewarded.
Speaker 1Yeah, keep working hard out of here.
Speaker 2Yep, the mom shared photos of Jelly Roll hugging the young lemonade entrepreneurs as he gave them a life lesson in generosity and kindness all in exchange for a glass of lemonade.
Speaker 1Almost $700. So sweet. Those kids were blown away.
Speaker 2I know, wouldn't you be $700?

We're saluting also things that happened to us during the past year on the show, and one of the biggest ones was when we found wattles in Lake Guntersville oh, yeah, in Lake Guntersville area and tried to help them.
Speaker 2Yep. That was one of our biggest events of the year.
Speaker 1Yeah, so we'll be saluting wattles. Hey, by the way, we've got to congratulate somebody else. Our podcast winner from yesterday it's Laura Payne. Yeah, laura commented on our podcast on our Facebook page from yesterday and we had a random drawing. And, laura, you are the winner. You're going to pick up what is it? Tickets to.

Speaker 2Yeah, that's where you want to look for. It is our Facebook page link, because that's where you want to go back and comment and comment your favorite part of the show, and that's it. You're in the running.
Speaker 1You could be tomorrow's winner. And on your way into school and work, today we have your quote of the day. What do you have for us today?
Speaker 2So this one is from Winston Churchhill. He says courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
Speaker 1That's true.
Speaker 2That is very true. It's very easy for people to have words and can talk and they want to interfere with conversation, but sometimes it takes courage to just sit and listen and take it in.
Speaker 1Sometimes it's not necessarily what you say, but what you type and what you put on your Facebook or on your whatever. Whatever you use your social media, sometimes people are very brave they think they are, but when they post something or type something on Facebook and sometimes it can be so hurtful just what you say that usually you don't have the courage to say to someone's face. So just be careful, whether you're saying it coming out of your mouth or something that you type in a message. Sometimes it takes courage to not say something, oh yeah, and just be quiet and let it go.
Speaker 2Yeah, and I think that's where you'll find how strong you really are is when you have to have the courage to be silent.
Speaker 1And not reply to what somebody puts on there? Yep, because people can say some hurtful things. Yep, and to me on Facebook. It doesn't take much courage to write something. It takes more courage not to respond and tell them what you would like Drop the mic, barry. That was a good line, that's why I got off Facebook years ago.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Because too many people love to be critical of things and they would never say it to your face.
Speaker 2You were so right.
Speaker 1But they'll sure type it.
Speaker 2Yes, you were so right.
Speaker 1Yeah, that doesn't take courage to type that. It takes courage not to respond and tell somebody what you really think.
Speaker 2Yeah, and I applaud you for creating boundaries and just getting off of there. If it was nothing good, just get off of there, man. No, you know, but our Facebook is happy, so you can come to our Facebook page.
Speaker 1That's why we try to put nothing but just fun, happy, inspirational type things on our Facebook page, on the QSP Facebook page. Yeah, so there you go.
Speaker 3Alright, 716. Very sad, and Holly On Alabama's Country, giant WQSB. Come on, bentley, come on.
Speaker 1Wouldn't mind having some cake by the ocean. Wouldn't mind having anything by the ocean. I love the ocean. Yeah, love the ocean. How about some Baskin-Robbins ice cream by the ocean? I wouldn't mind having anything by the ocean. I love the ocean. Yeah, love the ocean. How about some Baskin Robbins ice cream by the ocean?
Speaker 2Oh, I'm going to take that.
Speaker 1They have a new flavor, the September flavor of the month. It goes full bananas. It's called Oreo Monkey Business. Oh Yep, it features creamy banana ice cream combined with crunchy Oreo cookies and peanut butter.
Speaker 2I'm looking at the picture Sounds like a lot going on.
Speaker 1Yes, I'm looking at the. I don't think I've ever had this banana ice cream that I can remember.
Speaker 2I've never had banana. What's your favorite flavor?
Speaker 1My favorite. I love well homemade ice cream, but if you can ever make some peanut butter ice cream, I just love the peanut butter ice cream, the milkshakes, stuff like that. What about you?
Speaker 2Yeah, you may like this one then. I love black walnut ice cream.
Speaker 1I like it. I've had that before.
Speaker 2It's very good. That's one of my favorites. Very good, yep.
Speaker 1I know you're a big Dunkin' fan, right.
Speaker 2I am. I'm a big Dunkin' fan. And here is the fall lineup. You couldn't. There are pumpkin muffins, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin munchkins A lot of pumpkin. Yep, the all-new Dunk-A-Latte. What is that? It's a creamy coffee, milk with espresso. Okay, and the loaded hash browns along with maple sugar bacon makes it.
Speaker 1I've never had those. Are the loaded hash browns good?
Speaker 2I've never had them, but it's so cute because every year they do a little spider. They make a little spider in their pumpkins with the hole they'll put like a donut hole and then draw the legs. It's so cute that is cute.
Speaker 1Yeah, I know you're a fan of capri sun, just had. The daughters love these oh my gosh.
Speaker 2My mayor goes through probably 10 a day and I like them because you can get the roaring waters and it's just basically flavored water. It's better than the soft drink?
Speaker 1Oh yeah, much rather have them drink these than soft drink.
Speaker 2Yeah, and Capri Sun is coming for adults with 12 ounce bottles. That's going to be arriving in stores soon. I know I have so many friends that have come over to my house and I'd be like okay, I've got tea, I've got water and I have juice, and my friends, love Capri Sun.
Speaker 1You brought me one once, yeah, and you brought me the little pack where you put the little straw in there. Yes, and I felt a little weird drinking that one.
Speaker 2So now they've got big boy bottles, now you can do big boy drinks Bottles, but they're going to start with three flavors. They're most popular Fruit Punch, strawberry, kiwi and Pacific Cooler.
Speaker 1Great idea. So now I won't feel as weird drinking my Capri Sun without the little pack and the little straw.
Speaker 2Let me tell you I usually have a Capri Sun before my nap, and so I'm just sitting there with my little Capri Sun curled up in my baby blanket, ready to take a nap.
Speaker 1Well, that's cute. So now they've got a big boy bottle for you.
Speaker 2Yeah, they've got a big boy 7-27.
Speaker 3WQSB Mornings with Barry and.
Speaker 1Holly.
Speaker 4Do Rachel's song Okay.
Speaker 1All right all right, all right.
Speaker 4We don't know where Rachel is.
Speaker 2All right, mama's got a squeeze box and it never spins at night. Okay, that feels more complete.
Speaker 1That does sound weird, though with Will I know with Will Hearing squeeze box.
Speaker 2Rachel, where are you Taste?
Speaker 1me we're like juice box for.
Childhood Memories and Parking Blunders
Speaker 2Will, hey, will. Do you hear about those full size Capri Suns coming out? They are full 12 ounce bottles of.
Speaker 4Capri Suns bring my childhood back.
Speaker 1I feel weird drinking that little pouch with a straw, but now I can get the big boy did y'all ever turn it upside down and stab it?
Speaker 4no, we used to turn it upside down why would you? Do that? I don't know. We thought we were cool, we were in elementary school but how does it sit?
Speaker 2it just stays in the bottom of it but how do you sit it down, you don't? You just hold on to it.
Speaker 4But I think it. To me it's easier to squeeze that way gotcha okay.
Speaker 1Hey, we got some special guests joining us next hour. Yeah, uh, so-called roofing and restoration. Are they out now in the lobby or in the green room, or what are they?
Speaker 4doing. Yeah, they're getting prepped, so they're getting ready to come in here and talk about the big promotion that we got.
Speaker 1Yeah, the healthcare hero and I was telling Will a few months ago. We were talking about things that they could be part of, and this is always. We've done this off and on for about three, four years and every time we do it we bring it back and it's one of the most popular contests we have promotions we have because people enter this. I bet you you may have somebody in your family or friend who's in the health care field. I do, my daughter is. I know people who are friends, but you do too. My mom, yeah, your mom was, and you were that close to being in there.
Speaker 2I was one question away from being a nurse.
Speaker 4But do you think that you would have as big of an impact on the nursing thing as what you're doing now? I don't think so.
Speaker 2I think this is where I'm supposed to be.
Speaker 1You wouldn't have as much fun in there giving somebody an enema like you do here. I don't think, maybe you would.
Speaker 2but I don't think who says I can't give enemas? Nobody said I can't give enemas.
Speaker 1Mrs Se, I never said don't I'll call in that day. Yeah, I'll sit over here, I'll remain seated. But Will is in for a very important reason he wants to learn. You're never too old to learn and Holly's Knowledge Nuggets. Schools are reaching out to us across the nation now saying could you please share these nuggets?
Speaker 2with us so we can teach our children. I know they need to know.
Speaker 1Yeah, what do they need to know today?
Speaker 2will is going to attest to this one, that it is true, and so will you, if you remember, 80 of kids under the age of eight only use 20 of their toys or less of their toys.
Speaker 1You are correct, yes yes, yes because my children had closet fulls and yeah toy chest fulls of stuff and I've got nothing to do, I've got nothing to play with. You've got toys everywhere, I know, yeah, but those are old.
Speaker 2I bought all these sensory toys when the girls were young and I did all these cool things and bought these neat things, like Melissa and Doug and all that, and they liked empty water bottles. That's what they liked To crinkle an empty water bottle.
Speaker 4And you never see a yard sale without toys. No.
Speaker 2No, you don't.
Speaker 1And my kids would get into an empty box and have the biggest time. Yeah, the box it becomes a fort, it becomes a castle. But you give them a toy, then they play with it for one day, then it's thrown under the bed.
Speaker 2Yep, you never see it again.
Speaker 1I agree with that one Yep.
Speaker 2According to a recent survey, 20% of men say that if their significant other gives them a surprise gift, he immediately thinks something's wrong.
Speaker 3Oh, you're saying yes.
Speaker 1I say yes, really yeah. No, go look and see if she's wrecked the vehicle, no guys that she ran into.
Speaker 2You're supposed to give surprise gifts.
Speaker 4I wait on the credit card bill from Ulta or wherever else.
Speaker 1So have you done that in the year?
Speaker 2I give surprise gifts all the time, but I swear on my heart, I never am doing anything for it.
Speaker 1Not because you've wrecked the vehicle. No, no, no or burnt.
Speaker 2No, if I would cry, you would see me crying. Oh, I wrecked the vehicle, but I would not be like here, honey, here's a can of skull and oh, by the way, I wrecked your wreck your truck.
Speaker 1It's like the guys you can see walking out of food city holding a thing of flowers. You say what?
Speaker 4did he do what he did? How did he screw?
Speaker 1up, or what did he forget? Yeah, you're right. You're right. Yep, you never just buy them, because I'm not meaning to, I won't say you don't, but because you love them.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, that's true. In a recent study, 52% of women align their car in the middle of the parking space perfectly, compared to only 25% of men. I know where this is going.
Speaker 1I've seen you park. She parks on top of the line. I think she takes the line that's supposed to go right between the middle of her Jeep, so she's one of those ones that pulls up beside you and you can't get out. You have to call out the passenger window just to get out.
Speaker 4Are you a good parker? I am. One thing I hate is being at the end of a parking lot where there's nobody around, and then that one person comes.
Speaker 2oh hey, there's a Parks right beside you I, and then that one person comes oh hey, there's a Parts right beside you. Yeah, I cannot stand that. That's like public restrooms there can be eight stalls and you go in the first one. The next person that comes in is going to sit beside you. Why do they do that?
Speaker 1And he's just had Taco Bell. Yeah, and he's about to let the world know he's been in there spraying for mosquitoes.
Speaker 4Same thing with the urinal.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, See, I wouldn't know, I wouldn't know about the urinal. Is that what they do?
Speaker 1Yeah, and do not try to carry on a conversation around the urinal. Yeah, that's not the place you talk. Yeah, or shake hands. Well, I messed up with Sam Hunt one day.
Speaker 2Barry, did you Was?
Speaker 1it CRS? No, sam Hunt.
Speaker 2Yeah, what happened?
Speaker 1I walked up and I looked over and I said hey, sam Hunt. He says mm-hmm. And his song Take your Time had just come out. I said my bad, it's Take your Time. And he says I see what you did there.
Speaker 2And he laughed. Oh, he did laugh. Yeah, oh, okay well, good.
Speaker 1And then he said stop talking to me, freak, and sprayed me down with mace, you know.
Speaker 4and ran out. Are you that guy that does the Pringle can and put it in the room? Was that you?
Speaker 2That was me, no, all right, Thanks Will.
Speaker 1That's $7.57. Larry and.
Speaker 3Holly on Alabama's Country, Giant WQSB.
Speaker 1QSB Zag Brown Band and Tie Up. You know that's a perfect tie-in for a guest. It sure is yeah, rock the dock, tie up, see. You planned that too.
Speaker 2I did, yeah, I planned that I'm a mastermind.
Celebrating Healthcare Heroes Event
Speaker 1This time I turned your microphone off and everything, Thank you. It could have been worse, you know it could have been a lot worse. Yeah, but seriously, tie up, rock the dock. Joining us with SoCo Roofing and Restoration? We've Lisa. How are you guys doing this morning? We're doing great.
Speaker 6We're great Thanks for having us.
Speaker 1Yeah, let's talk about Rock the Dock. Of course, a huge success. I don't know if you've been in here since we last before Rock the Dock, but talk about the crowd because I'm curious. I'm not good at counting. You don't actually have tickets you hand out.
Speaker 6Did you ever get a rough guess? We don't really have a good number. We think there was well over 2,000 people there. I mean, the parking lot was full, it was standing room only, and the comments and the stuff after on social media were all pretty positive.
Speaker 1When we were up on the top looking down on it, it was amazing. Everywhere you looked people and the boats is what blew me away how many boats you had coming in.
Speaker 2There were so many boats.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 6Yeah, it was a cool night for sure.
Speaker 1So you do so much. We brought you in because one reason we want to thank you for being part of our Healthcare Hero promotion. We started that this week We'll be having our first winner coming up, I believe a week from Monday. We've done this in the past and we get so many nominations of people entering this contest because I think I'll ask you too. I have my daughters in the healthcare field. Holly has a mom friends I bet everybody's either got a family member or a friend who's in the health care business.
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean we all know somebody or work with somebody or know somebody that knows somebody that is in that industry, and it's a lot like our first responder stuff we do every year. A lot of those people don't get enough thank yous for what they do and how they serve people.
Speaker 1And we love the way that you you honor, like you mentioned, first responders. You had the cookouts back in the spring. We're a part of that, and now you're helping us honor the health care workers. We're going to be, uh, letting everybody send in nominations, because you go to our website and send us a person's name, where they work, what they do, and then we're going to select one each. We can give them a hundred dollars courtesy of uh, qsb and SoCo, roofing and Restoration and thank you for doing that. Like my daughter she works I couldn't do this 12 hours. They do 12 on 12. They do 12 hours for 7 days and they're off 7 days. Man, I'm thinking if you go into 5 pm to 5 am, that midnight to 5 am has got to be kicking your butt because you're tired.
Speaker 6Yeah, and you may see things that the normal person doesn't see at those hours. Right, you've got to be sharp and, on top of it, yeah, it's like the fireman that's running into the fire Most of us are running out and it's like nurses they're going to take care of something that would gross most of us out.
Speaker 1Oh yeah. So what about you, lee? You got anybody.
Speaker 5Family, friends Get a sister-in-law are both doctors. Oh okay, yeah, my brother is a cardiovascular surgeon in Dallas and my sister-in-law is a hand surgeon.
Speaker 1Wow, that's impressive.
Speaker 5Yeah, and I used to work in medical billing before SoCo, so I have a background in medicine too.
Speaker 1Yeah, so we're talking anything in the health care field, whether it's a hospital or doctor's office.
Speaker 5there's many things Somebody asked what if they are like a paramedic? Absolutely many things. Somebody asks what if they are like a paramedic? Absolutely I would say yeah, because you're dealing with helping people with their health.
Speaker 1Yeah, anybody in the medical office, really. So you see, really some of the first responders also can be part of this oh yeah, for sure that's the best way to nominate somebody.
Speaker 1You go to our website, wqsbcom, and you'll find it it's uh, towards the top, and you click on that and just fill out the information. Then we we're going to do it a week from Monday will be our first winner and we'll be doing this for the next quite a few months. Awesome, we'll be announcing it on the radio. So if you'd like to nominate somebody, go to WQSPcom and I think we're even going to put their picture. If we can get a picture of them, we're going to send a card to that has a free inspection and also a $200 rebate on a roof replacement.
Speaker 5If they want to use this to come out and take a look at their roof. No charge for that, and if they sign up for a roof they'll get $200 off.
Speaker 1Oh great, If they want to contact SoCo Roofing, how can they do that?
Speaker 5256-677-9002. Or then go to our website, southernroofexpertscom, or our Facebook page at SoCo Roofing and Restoration.
Speaker 1Well, we appreciate y'all, and had a chance to hang out with y'all at the Will Mosley concert too just a few weeks ago. Yeah, that was great, that was good, that was a good show. So who knows a good show. So who knows, he may pop up at Rock the Dock next year. You never know.
Speaker 5That's right, and we want to also mention that we also do financing plans. So if anybody out there needs a roof replaced or repaired or just want to be able to help make their insurance deductible, give us a call. We have many ways to help you.
Speaker 1Well, thank you for all that you do. We appreciate that. And tell David he's got to come next time. He always gets out. Well, thank you so much, we appreciate y'all.
Speaker 3Love being here.
Speaker 1Yep, it's the healthcare hero. If you need more details on that, call us here at QSB.
Speaker 3WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.
Speaker 1WQSB Country Music News. Jelly Roll has done it again. He does so many things for people, even little things like this. He's in Salt Lake City, utah, for tour Tuesday night and they were driving to the arena and he saw a lemonade stand on the side of the road in the middle of the town. He said, hey, pull over. They pulled over. He walked over to some young kids who were selling lemonade and he got them a glass of lemonade. He went to pay for it. He gave them almost $700. Oh my gosh. He began digging his pocket, his manager's, anybody who had cash. He said, hey, give it to me, guys, we're giving these kids all we got.
Speaker 1I love Jolly Roll and they cleaned out their pockets and he said it's his way of giving these young entrepreneurs a life lesson in generosity as well as kindness, and he thinks they'll take this with them as they go through life. And there's a picture or two on her Facebook page of him and the kids at the lemonade stand.
Speaker 2I'm going to go ahead and warn you it is so hard for me to say this name, but during a performance at the Colorado State Fair on Saturday night, scotty McCreary that is a hard word.
Speaker 1It is really hard to say.
Speaker 2It brought this show to an immediate halt. After he witnessed someone in the crowd hit a woman During his opening song it Matters to Her, he stopped singing and he called out the assault. Mccreary then proceeded to call security in order to get the abusive fan ejected from the show, while also making sure that the victim was okay.
Speaker 1But my gosh, you know what I guess happened here. The victim probably said you want me kicked out and he said damn straight. That's what I'm guessing he said For Rock the Doc at Corey Smith. This year they should get Chase Matthew. Chase is awesome and puts on a fantastic show.
Speaker 2I think so too. I think we should be put in charge of who the talent is. And they should just pay for it. You know, Like, let us pick it.
Speaker 1Like you're going to put Luke Holmes and Morgan Wallen back to back. I think Ray Gunters would have nothing but boats from here to I don't know.
Speaker 2From sea to shining sea. Yeah, yeah, if, from sea to shining sea.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, if you brought those in, yeah we'll save so cold and pay for that.
Speaker 1We'll make a call. We know people we do. Hey, sunny hot today. Good day to be on the water. 95 is going to feel like well over 100. Heat index going to be awful today. It gets a little better each day as you go through the weekend. So, yeah, just make it through the day and it does, and start getting better. Morning's crime story going to Rhode Island Police in Cranston, rhode Island, said a man was arrested after urinating on a woman's leg at the Kenny Chesney concert.
Speaker 2Why, why?
Speaker 1They have bathrooms for this.
Speaker 2Oh my.
Speaker 1God, police say they responded to the concert sandpit at about 9.15 pm. I guess sandpit is that, like the mosh pit in front of the stage or something, barry, I don't know. Okay, the report was that a man had urinated on a woman's shoes. Yes, while she was wearing them. Shane, the man accused of the act, is a police officer who was off duty at the time. According to officials, the woman felt a warm liquid hitting her leg when she turned around. She told police she saw him standing behind her, looked his shorts zipper was down and she saw him urinating on her boots.
Speaker 2Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1Police said she alerted security. Police say that Lance appeared to be heavily intoxicated when they approached him.
Speaker 2That was my question.
Speaker 1He's facing many charges. It's not funny, but come on, man.
Speaker 2Well, we're not laughing because it's funny, we're laughing because of the irony, like a police officer getting drunk.
Speaker 1Right.
Speaker 2And I never know how to act. When a full grown man pees on my shoes, how do you act? How does one act? Man pees on my shoes, how do you act? How does one act?
Speaker 1How do you respond to that? How?
Speaker 2do you respond? I don't know, I'm stumped on that one.
Speaker 1I don't think that's ever happened to me. Come to think of it.
Speaker 2It's happened to me a few times.
Speaker 1Really.
Speaker 2Yeah, not in a sand pit.
Speaker 1Here in the building. Yeah, I'll just be back at my office. And here comes dale. Oh my goodness, you might want to speak to management about that I might. Yeah, yeah, I I just kind of find that hard to believe. Is it good? Are you picturing it? I'm just trying to picture that. Yeah, don't. No. No, I'm looking like maybe is he hiking the leg Like Doug and putting that one leg up in the air Hard to believe.
Speaker 1I hope you're lying on that one. We'll have to call HR on this one. We'll get them out. Please stop peeing on Holly's leg. Busy day Animal stories. A couple of them. One you need to. Actually, they both have a video. We have a lot of good videos on our facebook page. One the dodgers had a big game last night. The shohei otani he's like the big name in baseball. Yeah, it was shohei otani bobblehead night for him and his dog, decoy. Now decoy has become as famous as shohei brings him with him all over, all over the place. He's been teaching him how to throw out the first pitch. Oh, which for a dog, you wonder. How is it possible?
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1He's trained the dog, been working with it with another organization. Okay, look at this story. It says it's a Dutch. I have no idea how to say the dog. What kind of dog this is? It's a beautiful dog. It's a K-O-O-I-K. You see the name. I've never seen this.
Speaker 2I'm not even going to try. No idea. Just know that it's Dutch. Yeah, no idea.
Speaker 1But it's a beautiful dog. Okay, they put the ball on the pitcher's mound. The dog sits there, shohei gets behind the plate as the catcher. He then gives a signal, the dog picks up the ball and runs it to him behind the plate. That's how the dog throws out the first pitch. Oh, that's so cute. That is very cute. Then it gives Shohei a high five. Aww, and the bobble head is Shohei and the dog together on the bobble head.
Speaker 2I love that.
Speaker 1They gave away about 40,000 of those at the game.
Speaker 2Oh, wow.
Speaker 1I'd love to have one of those, didn't you say?
Speaker 2the first 10,000 were golden.
Speaker 1Yeah, gold, yeah, well not solid gold, you know, but they look gold yeah.
Speaker 2I would tell people they were gold?
Speaker 1I would Sure yeah. Now, when you find that video, look close to it. You'll find the other one of the mongoose, I believe, and the cobra yeah.
Speaker 4Now.
Speaker 1I've always been fascinated because cobras have got to be one of the scariest snakes in the world I know. But the mongooses, they're not scared of it at all.
Speaker 2No, they're not. They love to fight. They'll go after it.
Speaker 1Yeah, and in India at the airport, there's somebody sitting on the plane set to take off, looks out on the tarmac and there's a cobra out on the tarmac Ew. Then a mongoose comes running out and begins fighting it.
Speaker 2Oh, no, and they got videoed it Was the snake minding its own business.
Speaker 1Don't know.
Speaker 2And the mongoose came out after it.
Speaker 1I guess the snake was trying to catch its flight. I don't know what it was doing, you know snakes on a plane oh.
Speaker 2I don't know what it was doing. You know snakes on a plane.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, the old movie. But then it shows two more mongooses come out to help it and the video goes off before it shows who won and the story goes on to say that the mongooses they won the fight, they beat the cobra. Now, I didn't know this they say in India that it's estimated that the mongoose wins the fight against cobras 75% of the time. Wow.
Speaker 2That's amazing. That is amazing.
Speaker 1Cobras are so mean.
Speaker 2I know, and I know you said it's on there, but if you want to watch the video on our Facebook page, it is so neat to watch how the mongoose attacks the cobra.
Speaker 1It's not scared of it at all.
Speaker 2No, not at all.
Speaker 1That amazes me. Yeah, it's 846. Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1And the quote of the day. What you got today.
Speaker 2This one comes from Winston Churchill. He says courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. I think you said it best this morning when you said that it is not courageous to post on Facebook about somebody or some situation. Yeah, but it does take courage to be quiet and silent and let that speak for itself.
Speaker 1I agree, because a lot of people think they're being brave by posting something on Facebook, something they probably wouldn't say to your face. But it doesn't necessarily mean you're being courageous. Sometimes you're being cruel.
Speaker 2Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1But sometimes being courageous is not responding to that and just holding your tongue, not saying anything in return.
Speaker 2Yeah, and that's hard. It's a hard lesson to learn, but I think the older I get, the more I realize that starving the fire and letting it die is better than feeding the fire.
Speaker 1I agree, all right, it's 8.55.
