Morning Show Banter and Weather Updates
Speaker 1It's time to rise and shine and get your morning started with Alabama's award-winning morning show. It's six o'clock already. I was just in the middle of a dream. Get up. We gotta go to work what? But I can't get late, so then I guess I just won't get paid. Why do people work? Do any of you people do any actual work? These are the days when you wish your bed was already made, broadcasting live from high atop Alabama's beautiful Sand Mountain. I don't like Mondays. Tell me why I don't like.
Speaker 3Mondays. Tell me why. Oh, you don't understand how radio works.
Speaker 1Monday. Monday so good to me Doesn't hardly seem like work, does it? It sure is Monday hitting it now, except for Monday. Let's get to work. Please welcome your hosts. Just another manic Monday. Barry and Holly Wish it was.
Speaker 4Sunday Good morning at 607. Yes, even on a holiday she still comes into work.
Speaker 3It's just another manic Monday. Barry for me.
Speaker 4When you look at the calendar, it says Labor Day. You should labor on Labor Day.
Speaker 3I think I mean it should be anti-Labor Day Right.
Speaker 4It's always confused me, because Labor Day I would always ask Daddy. I said what is that? He said, well, it's when those who you, they get a day off and we honor those who work. Then I said, well, why are we out in the garden working? Because it was like we'd always go in the garden. Today was the day we always grew peanuts.
Speaker 3What? How do you grow peanuts?
Speaker 4You just grow them in the ground. In the ground and you pull them up and you shake the dirt off, so so it was always peanut day because it was out of school and it was peanut day.
Speaker 3I was today years old when I found out peanuts grew in the ground. No, I had no idea.
Speaker 4Look it up. Ask Siri, she can verify. I'm going to Google a picture of it. Peanuts in the ground. No, you're going to.
Speaker 3Peanuts in the ground. Okay, yeah, whoa, that's weird. Ew See, oh, wow, that's weird. Oh, I love peanuts and this is this is disturbing. You did not know this. No, it really for real. Grosses me out why I don't like the silver shells. I'll be honest with you. This is a really irrational fear. I don't like things in clusters. Oh yeah, I don't like things together like that Like. Like.
Speaker 4What else would there be?
Speaker 3Holes. Yeah, like a bunch of holes in something Like the middle of a lotus flower.
Speaker 4Oh, what about like sunflower?
Speaker 3No.
Speaker 4Really.
Speaker 3Yeah, and it has a name to it. It's like it starts with a T. I can't stand it. I'm really weird, I'm just a weird person?
Speaker 4Yeah, you are, I know, because, peanuts, you pull them up and there's a bunch on there and you suck the dirt off and then you can shell them.
Speaker 3But it just looks like weeds.
Speaker 4It does until you pull them up. Yeah, that just okay.
Speaker 3well, but you have to know where you going to move on from this in a minute, but this is going to be sitting with me for the rest of the day.
Speaker 4So now, when you eat peanuts, you're going to think about it.
Speaker 3No, it's almost like a vegetarian finding out they're eating cow beef and they didn't know about it. I feel like betrayed.
Speaker 4It's like when they find out eggs came from a chicken. What?
Speaker 3I'm confused. Why are peanuts in the ground? I don't know and, like I said, they look like a bunch of wheat. Anyway, if you're listening to this, google peanuts in the ground, it'll blow your mind too.
Speaker 4Probably won't. It might, I would say, most know this.
Speaker 3It just looks like weeds. I don't understand yeah.
Speaker 4So if I go out in my backyard and pull up some weeds, there's a possibility that peanuts could be on there I really doubt it.
Speaker 3You almost have to plant them. How do you plant? Do you use the peanut to plant them?
Speaker 4that I don't know. I was always at the very end of the cycle yeah I was the one that had to pull them up and shake them, get the dirt off and then you pull them off the weeds yeah, okay, you do, and it took a while because he didn't plan just five. Yeah, it's like 50,000.
Speaker 3I bet that would hurt your hands after a while.
Speaker 4It gets old, yeah, then you start throwing dirt clods in it. Then you get the belt Because you get bored after a while.
Speaker 3Yeah, I bet Pull out the peanuts, shake their.
Speaker 4Here you go.
Speaker 3Did you know that cashews grow on trees? I Do macadamias grow on trees.
Speaker 4I did not know that.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's really gross too.
Speaker 4What about macadamias? Let me see Macadamia grow, because if you have a macadamia farm, you've got some money.
Speaker 3Okay, for real.
Speaker 4Yeah, okay.
Speaker 3They grow on a tree.
Speaker 4Okay. Macadamias are so good. Years ago, a lot of the Hollywood folks would buy macadamia farms in Hawaii. Wow, it was like an investment. Oh, that's weird. Seriously, I'd read that.
Speaker 3Well, they grow on a tree and they are not as gross. They look like little, tiny limes. They're green like little limes, I don't know.
Speaker 4I wouldn't know. I'm not a fan of macadamias, really yeah.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh, just to have like no taste. Whatever, they've got the best taste. I love it in trail mix or a box of one of those containers of planters. I love to get those and eat the macadamias and the pecans out of them. Cool, what's your favorite in trail?
Speaker 4mix. Uh, cashews, oh yeah, I love the cashews I could eat just just cashews.
Speaker 3I have many times eaten just cashews.
Speaker 4But anyway, this little thing, yeah. So what did you always do on Labor Day? Anything at all.
Speaker 3Rest. When I was younger, like younger 20s, all my friends had boats or jet skis.
Speaker 4Oh, so it's going to be a very popular day out on the. Yeah, because the weather looks good. Yeah, what's the weather? Foggy this morning, then mostly sunny and 90. Oh yeah, it's going to be warm, but not too bad, not as humid.
Speaker 3Lake's going to be crowded.
Speaker 4Hey, let me show the later in the week we talked about it and people were excited. Wednesday, the cool front is really here. Wednesday's high is 80, but Thursday, good chance of rain.
Speaker 3High of 73?.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3Hello fall, you're my new friend.
Speaker 4Thursday night lows in the low 60s, maybe even upper 50s. And then Friday high school football lows in the low 60s. Wow, so better weather.
Speaker 3That is better.
Speaker 4And then Saturday and Sunday highs will be in the upper 70s. I'll take it It'll stay in the 70s for the weekend.
Speaker 3I'm excited. Yay, it's going to be a nice weather weekend, so we're starting to break into fall.
Speaker 4Yep, it's going to feel more like fall this weekend.
Speaker 3Fall-ish.
Entertainment News and Weather Updates
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, this morning it says 70,. A lot of fog, be careful. A lot of fog out there Coming up, a lot of stuff going on, a lot of businesses closed. Of course, if you're one of those working, we'll be giving you as far as some of the prizes we'll be holding off today, so we won't be announcing our student athletes of the week today. We'll be doing that on Thursdays, starting this week. Team of the week, though. Congrats to the Pisgah Eagles. Big went on a few days ago against Fife and they pick up the QSP Team of the Week award courtesy of Dixie Designs, and they'll pick up the T-shirts and the trophy later on this week. Don't forget to join us's Friday night 9 o'clock. For the high school football scoreboard. It's 6-13. It's Dash with Austin. That's one of those slow climbing songs. It's number 10. It came out like what early spring.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 4And it's one of the top songs of the summer, but it's been slowly climbing up the chart.
Speaker 3What's it going to do this week, you think?
Speaker 4I don't know, because it went, not the number 10. But the craziest one is Chase. Matthew, love you Again. It's now number 7. 52 weeks, an entire year it's been on the chart.
Speaker 3A whole year yeah.
Speaker 4Man.
Speaker 3Like, what do you do? Do you push a new song out, or do you just write he's streaming.
Speaker 4He's encouraging people to download and stream them. As far as record companies, they only release usually one song at a time, so they're waiting on this one to do something until they release the next one. Uh, but anyway, it's gonna be a foggy morning as you head outside 622 fog, dense fog, advisory for a lot of us. Be careful, especially in parts of uh, jackson, madison, marshall and decal. That's where you'll find the thickest fog, but later, mostly sunny, up to 90. It's gonna be the warmest day of the week because it gets cooler by the end of the week. You're looking at highs in the low 70s in some spots, with lows overnight lows in the upper 50s.
Speaker 3I like that it's going to feel good.
Speaker 4I like that it's going to feel good. Hey, our big deal. We have two new big deals going on sale. This morning at 10 o'clock You've got Marco's Pizza in Albertville and Santa Fe in Albertville. Now Marcos hasn't been on there in a while, but Santa Fe these always sell fast. These go on sale at 10 o'clock and, looking over a big deal, we have a whole bunch of big deal coupons available, like Puck's Restaurant in Kilpatrick has about 20 left. Puck's in Langston has quite a few Wicked Halloween in Boaz selling really well. Only a few of those left.
Speaker 3Oh, just a few left. Those are really good crosses, though, those are Especially Halloween coming up.
Speaker 4It's a little over a month away because we're in September. Now. Yeah, Rib Shag Barbecue in Fort Payne has about 10 coupons left, Five branded Bronx in Gadsden has a few, Alabama Pizza Company has seven. And let's see some more. Include the, let's say here we go. Blooming Crazy Wood Floor Designs has 10, about 20 left. So get those two. You get $50 worth of the services for only $25. And these are all our big deals. You can get these coupons if you go to our website at WQSBcom. Since you've been gone.
Speaker 1Since you've been gone.
Speaker 4Well, since you've been gone, usually Labor Day weekend is a good weekend at the box office, but there was really nothing big new released this weekend. They're saving Beetlejuice Beetlejuice for this coming weekend. That's going to be a big one. Yeah, you know the reason why Because college football officially started for all the teams this weekend. Yeah, so many people stayed away from the theaters. And why? Because college football officially started for all the teams this weekend yeah, so many people stayed away from the theaters well, you got to watch college football, especially the first game of the season.
Speaker 4You have to you have to.
Speaker 3Well, deadpool and wolverine pulled in the most money with 15 million. Still doing it, alien romulus pulled in 9.3 million still want to see that one and it ends with us with six million. Not bad, not bad. You want to see that one and it ends with us with six million, Not bad not bad. You want to see that one.
Speaker 4Yeah, I've heard it has a twist towards the end and that's kind of got me curious.
Speaker 3Is it like a romantic love story it?
Speaker 4is, but then something happens. Oh okay, it's what I've read.
Speaker 3Like a death Not really like an abuse type thing, oh, like domestic assault.
Speaker 4I don't know, haven't seen it, don't know, don't like that, don't know.
Speaker 3The new teaser trailer for Yellowstone Season 5. We just watched this this morning.
Speaker 4Oh, about the Yellowstone.
Speaker 3Okay, sorry, I'll wait.
Speaker 4Now we're ready.
Speaker 3Okay, season 5's final episodes. Knows the cold hard truth, the only thing that can tear down the house of Dutton is itself. Yes, the first footage from the long-awaited episodes for Season 5, part 2, arrived Friday morning in the form of a 30-second preview. Yeah, it begins with David Kostner. David, yeah, I don't even know, david.
Speaker 4Kevin.
Speaker 3Kostner's John Dutton, who we know won't be in the next few episodes.
Speaker 4So like he's done, so it makes you wonder if they're taking some maybe clips they didn't use and is having some scenes with him in it, to begin with because he's in the trailer.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, news reports say that he's going to be involved in some capacity, but it doesn't say how much.
Speaker 4Could be his voice.
Speaker 3I know.
Speaker 4Memories, flashbacks Could be, could be.
Speaker 3I don't know he says legacy. He says If you build something worth having, someone's going to try and take it.
Speaker 4Yes.
Speaker 3He said that in the trailer Right Yellowstone will kick off the remaining episodes of season five on Sunday, november 10th, on Paramount Network. So from what you've seen in the trailer.
Speaker 4They don't show you much. It shows Casey getting ready to go do something and take care of something. Then it shows Rip and I forget the other cowboy's name. It's the older guy that's on the ranch. With him, they're talking about how long they've been.
Speaker 3It's almost like they're being forced to leave. They said I've been here my whole life.
Speaker 4It's almost like they're being forced to leave. And then it shows Beth, I think, slapping Jamie.
Speaker 3I hope so. Again he deserves to be slapped.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3Beth just needs to go ahead and him Something's going to happen, Mm-hmm.
Speaker 4So if John Dutton does die, which that's the rumor he's going to in this somehow, it all depends on how Beth will take care of whoever's behind it.
Speaker 3Oh, beth will take care of business. Yeah, yeah, I wish they'd kill Jamie off too. I can't stand him Could be. He's such a little sneaky rat.
Speaker 4Yeah, because the rumor is that this may not be the end of Yellowstone. There's now rumors coming out that there's going to be some of the characters who will move on and have a season six, but they will continue Yellowstone.
Speaker 3Well, I like this show and I mean it's going to be sad to see Kevin Costner go and that really was a big part of the show, but Beth and Rip are what make it for me.
Speaker 4Yeah, because there's enough good characters on the show to keep it going. There is so we'll see. Anyway, it comes up in November. You can see the trailer, by the way, if you go to our Facebook page. It's on that 627.
Speaker 1WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.
Speaker 3And I would like to thank somebody, okay, a few people. Okay, I want to thank everybody that was so supportive on Friday. We had a really tough show we did. We honored Reed, who was Barry's son. That passed three years ago on Friday, and we had an overwhelming response of support and love and I feel like we did our job in honoring your son, barry.
Community Connection and Industry Updates
Speaker 4An overwhelming response of support and love and I feel like we did our job in honoring your son Barry. Well, it's made me feel better. I was telling you that I haven't worked on the day that he passed away the past two years. I decided to this time, something that's told me I needed to, and, looking at reading over all the comments, I'm glad I did, because there are so many people Sad thing is there are so many people in this area alone who've lost a child yeah, it is so sad. And to see your comments and hearing you sharing your stories with us also thank you for sharing and to know that maybe something we said or did might help somebody heal and move on, that made it all worthwhile.
Speaker 3It did yeah.
Speaker 4And so thank you for the comments. Whether you liked something, whether you loved it or whether you made a comment, we read them and we appreciate those, and it was like mind-blowing how many comments were coming in.
Speaker 3There were over 500 comments and we read every single one of them. We may not have been able to respond to them all, but we read every single one of them, so please know that you absolutely made a tough day better.
Speaker 4You really did and I appreciate that. And if you'd like to go back and see that the comments, feel free. They're on our Facebook page. And if you want to hear the podcast from Friday, it's like a record-breaking number of people listen to the podcast.
Speaker 3Yeah, this is the 100 or most listened to podcast episode that we had, and it's episode 100. Um, if you want to go back and look at it, all you have to do is, if you can't find us, just go to where you listen to podcasts and top in wqsb morning show and we'll pop right up what was the number?
Speaker 4again, over 500, over 600 people listen to the podcast. That is amazing yeah so thank you very much. You posted this morning on our facebook something simple because we're wondering being labor day. Uh, yes, I know it's a day that we honor those who labor, but there are still those who do labor. I've always wondered why they don't call it the do not labor on labor day do not labor day to take it easy, relax.
Speaker 4but they call it labor Day because we're honoring those who labor. Oh well, and you ask people, so who's up and listening? This morning and there are a lot of people up.
Speaker 3Miss Judy from Snead's Farmhouse is listening. She says good morning. Alice Robison says good morning. Carolyn Kenworthy says good morning. Off work today, but she's always up, as usual and listening. Kenneth Smith says about to be listening from Rodentown we hope that you got in your car truck fast enough to hear this shout out, yeah. Jacqueline Williams says listen, I'm on my way to work. Johnny Mathis says good morning guys. Michelle Hill says good morning from Piedmont. I'm on my way to work.
Speaker 4Sandy Harbin listening. Good morning from Rainbow City. You mentioned Snead's Farmhouse. Love y'all. Taylor Hope Brennan yes, she's listening. Felicia Bearden listening from work. Tammy Persley yes, and listening from home. Good morning. Jennifer Epps Floyd. Good morning. Krista Mayo, listening always. Did you ever have a winner for the aquarium tickets? Tomorrow's my little's fourth birthday.
Speaker 3Oh, you have to send your birthday in. Go to wqsb and and send that birthday into us so we can give him a birthday spanking and yes, we did have a winner.
Speaker 4I'm not sure who it was, but we contacted the winner.
Speaker 3Yes, if we didn't contact you, it was someone else yes, we always announce the day the next day on air and then we message the winner. So also just like real quick. I want to put this out there we do so many giveaways and there's so many fake ads.
Speaker 4Yes, this makes me mad.
Speaker 3It makes me mad too. It'll be like click here and enter your credit card information to claim your prize. No, no, we will never, ever ever ask for your credit card information on a giveaway. We will never ask you to click a link on a giveaway.
Speaker 4It makes me mad because they attach these to our post. I know it looks like qsb did it, but we did not. So, like holly said, there was something we put up over the weekend and somebody began this company or these evil people began attaching this to it, like every single person who commented I noticed it said a reply.
Speaker 3It was not from us it drives me crazy no, like holly said, we will never ask you to do something like that yeah, and here's the thing, here's what trips me up about it they block us. Did you know that I did? Not block us, so I can't see them, so I have to. I have to wait until somebody else messages me.
Speaker 4Gotcha.
Speaker 3And is like, hey, did I win? And I'm like, fortunately, no, this is a scam, yes, but can you report it?
Speaker 4So the only way I can do it is report it. Why can't these companies use this? I mean, they're very smart For good To use their brains for good, I don't know. Instead of trying to steal and hurt people, they're literally just getting credit card information and I don't know what they do with it.
Speaker 3I don't know people's money from them probably try to probably mess up your bank account. Yeah, I'd go to starbucks, sure, where would you go? For what if you had a card with some money on it? Where would you go?
Speaker 4I don't know. I've never had that happen.
Speaker 3It's a lot of pressure, never had a lot of money yeah, it's 643 mornings, Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.
Speaker 4Yes, even though it's a Labor Day, there's still things going on. You need to know Holly's pile of stories and if you have DirecTV, when you turn it on this morning there's going to be some channels missing.
Speaker 3Yes, this is wild. Directv and Disney have reached a stalemate. It's not a good thing to do. Nope For viewers. That means that ESPN, disney Channel, fx and several other networks and channels went dark last night at midnight.
Speaker 4Oh no, when you turn it on today there's no bluey. Those are missing.
Speaker 3Bluey is not going to be on if you have DirecTV.
Speaker 4You won't get to see the Florida State games now if you're going to try to watch college football. Nope.
Speaker 3The two companies have begun negotiating, though a new contract to keep Disney's content on DirecTV's satellite and streaming services as a five-year contract ended September 1st. Why do they always wait till football? I don't know. Why do they?
Speaker 4Every year.
Speaker 3Why do they always wait until football? I don't know. Why do they wait and let it go dark? Do they not prepare for these things? They?
Speaker 4know it's coming, hey guys our contract's coming up?
Speaker 3Shouldn't we reconsider?
Speaker 4signing. Let's fix this. Let's have a meeting. Let's do this. Yes, don't wait until the week before football starts.
Speaker 3I know it's crazy. Do you watch One Tree Hill?
Speaker 4I never watch One Tree Hill. What about you?
Speaker 3I didn't. No, I hate to say it because I feel like people are going to be mad.
Speaker 4A lot of people talk about it and love it.
Speaker 3Well, it's been over a decade since the final episode of One Tree Hill aired, but sophia bush and hillary burton are headed back to where it all began. Sources say that a one tree hill sequel series is in development with netflix, and bush and burton are expected to reprise their roles as brooke and peyton oh, that's cool then.
Speaker 4Yeah, I like the show. It's coming back. 652 birthdays are next barry and holly, on alabama's country, giant wqsb I love country posty.
Speaker 1He's tearing it up. I love him. He's got a good sound too. Yeah, it's good. I'm Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country, giant WQSB.
Speaker 3I love Country Posty.
Speaker 4He's tearing it up. I love him.
Speaker 3He's got a good sound too. Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 4I'm hoping he releases the Jelly Roll song too.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, Somewhere down the road that's a good one, that's good 709,.
Speaker 4Hey, speaking of country.
Speaker 3I don't know if you saw this yep Clothing collection.
Speaker 4You can see some of the designs on her Facebook page. She's teamed up with Wrangler Now the first things coming out feature a line of Western dress shirts with jeans and snap shirts. It's going to arrive in the fall, which is what Fall is only a couple of weeks away.
Speaker 3Well, it says fall of 2025. Oh, next year.
Speaker 4Why so long?
Speaker 3I don't know, but you're missing a year. Make them so fast, don't be sending people to the five brand of Bronx to get a t-shirt.
Speaker 4Then why are we telling it now? I don't know. I mean, he released a press release Friday, but I guess he's proud of it Should be.
Speaker 3It's probably so expensive. You've got to wait a year to save up some money. I guess.
Speaker 4So yeah, hey got to mention this, our pet of the week. We're doing something different this week. We're doing something different because one of our buddies lost one of his pets. I don't mean lost, like it ran away, but it passed away.
Speaker 3Yeah, it passed away Our midday guy, mike, mike Allen. You might know him as Mike Allen, he goes by Mike Engle, but officially on his birth certificate. And they lost Chowder and it held a special place in their hearts. So we honored the life of Chowder with Mike and his wife Cecilia. Over the past year, mike and Cecilia have showered Chowder with love and provided him a wonderful home. So what we're going to do is donate $20 Food City gift card to Second Chance Shelter in Boaz in honor of Chowder's memory.
Speaker 4Yeah, and you can see a picture of Mike in honor of Chowder's memory. Yeah, and you can see a picture of Mike's cat. Chowder who passed away Beautiful cat too, on her Facebook page and I think it'll be on her billboard also, his little fat cat. Yeah, then we'll get back next Monday to giving Lister's a chance to win, which I think next week will be a cat. So we'll have another cat winner next week. The official pet of the week this week we're honoring Chowder.
Speaker 3This week we're honoring Chowder.
Morning Show Banter and Random Stories
Speaker 4Good choice. Alright time of the morning for the quote of the day. Are you ready? I'm ready. I like this one Kind of loosening things up a little bit, since we've had some really serious ones over the past few weeks. Jim Gaffigan, one of my favorite comedians. I like his quote about his kids.
Speaker 3It says to some people, going to bed feels like the highlight of their day.
Speaker 4Yep, that's me.
Speaker 3Ironically to their children, bedtime is a punishment that violates their basic rights as human beings.
Speaker 4How dare you make me go to bed?
Speaker 3Can I tell you something? It's also against my human rights to fall asleep before they do. They get so mad If I fall asleep on the couch, like on a Friday, because I've been up since 4 am and they're Mama, mama, mama and I'm like just let me sleep. Y'all you know Been there, I've done that. So my kids don't fight me at bedtime anymore, but I fight them at bedtime because I'm tired.
Speaker 4Gotta get them in bed. Mama's sleepy. They think it's awful to just make them go to bed. I know. Well, let them get up at four in the morning and see how they feel about nine o'clock at night.
Speaker 3I know, I know. They'll probably take a nap during the day.
Speaker 4They'd love to go to bed then, mm-hmm, yeah, at 7-12. Alabama big fan, did you watch? I watched. What do you think?
Speaker 3it was so good that I fell asleep in the fourth quarter. It was so good that it rocked me to sleep that you were relieved.
Speaker 2You're safe. Yes, they're not going to lose this one they're not going to lose this one
Speaker 4you got it girl close your little eyes.
Speaker 3Thank you, little man. And then I get poked. Mama, mama, I would like to know do other parents, do your kids, let you sleep Like I feel like I'm doing something wrong if they're still up and I doze off.
Speaker 4Well, and usually things they're asking you to wake up for are something they could do themselves, will you?
Speaker 3give me a juice.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3They're in the refrigerator. My man or my girl, come on.
Speaker 4Hey.
Speaker 3Mama look at this.
Speaker 4Yeah, and it's like, it's like a piece of scribble on paper.
Speaker 3I will say Mayer's gotten really creative. During the football game she did my nails, oh, and it was so smart. She drew a outline of my hand and then drew the fingernails onto the hand.
Speaker 4No.
Speaker 3Colored them, cut them out and then glue-sticked them to my fingers.
Speaker 4That's very smart it was pretty smart she's very creative Watch Alabama Game, loved it.
Speaker 3Mayor told me to quit cussing. To quit cussing. Well, I got excited. Oh no, and she was in my craft room and every once in a while she'd say Bad word and I didn't realize I was doing it. I was excited about the game and I'm like blank. Yeah, sorry, john henderson. Yeah, I went to church yesterday. He'll be showing up in the parking lot in a few minutes. Well, he knows that I love my jesus yeah and he knows that one slips every once in a while.
Speaker 4It happens. It happens Unfortunately.
Speaker 3I think John even says like that's a man-made word, it's not, it's just a man.
Speaker 4Oh, just don't say the vain Don't say the vain no, never, never, ever, ever, never, ever, ever yeah.
Speaker 3But just a quick, hey, yeah. Yeah, yeah you know, head into the building, Take it to the house.
Speaker 4I was so excited I could see you doing it you could probably hear me from your house. I thought that was you.
Speaker 3Yeah, that was me.
Speaker 4Okay, speaking of football, congrats to the Pisgah Eagles this week's WQSP Dixon Designs High School Football Team of the Week, big win last week. They're going to pick up the trophy and t-shirts later this week and don't forget to join us. Every Friday night, high School Football School Board begins at 9 right here on QSP. And speaking of sports, now we have the student athletes of the week. We'll be announcing there too this week, starting on Thursday. So beginning this week, every Thursday we'll be announcing one young lady and one young man as our student athletes of the week. So if you'd like to nominate somebody, go to our website, wqsbcom. It needs to be somebody from the school, either like a coach, an athletic director, principal, teacher, counselor, and let us know that there's a student or two. Give us their name, what grade they're in and what sport they play. The main thing is they must have a grade point average of a 3.0 or above.
Speaker 3Yes.
Speaker 4Yes, so if you want to do this, go to our website at WQSBcom.
Speaker 1Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.
Speaker 4We put on our Facebook page had so many comments and so many nice comments. We appreciate every one of those and, yes, we took the time to read them all. Didn't have a chance to comment on all of them because there were so many, but in the thousands and we appreciate that so much because it means a lot to know that our listeners are so supportive. And what really hurts is knowing that there are so many listeners who, in the comments, have also gone through something similar to losing a child. I know Because there's so many in this area alone.
Speaker 3Didn't you say at church yesterday somebody came up to you and said I've lost a child recently in the past few weeks. Oh my gosh yeah.
Speaker 4So it happens so much and it's so hard to get through. But, thank you, with support and great listeners like we have around the area, it makes it better, it does. So, yes, what you did, what you said, what you've done, it made a difference, trust me. So thank you very much. We appreciate that, and the Jelly Roll song made me think of that because we played it Friday morning. Because of that, I think it's a perfect song for anybody going through something, whether it's a loss of a child or anything you're going through. It's okay to say I'm not okay, but hopefully, you know, with the help of God, it's going to be all right. That's right. Don't give up. All right. Other things going on this morning. Come on, man. Some things I'll never understand. This is one of them. Have no clue why somebody would do this. Louisville, kentucky, louisville police are looking for a man that has defecated on the same porch multiple times at the same house for no apparent reason. What? Multiple times at the same house? For no?
Speaker 3apparent reason what.
Speaker 4Police confirmed they had received three police reports that the alleged porch pooper we're calling him, this is awful has done this not once, not twice, but three times.
Speaker 3That would be like a bad superhero name.
Speaker 4Porch pooper. He would even have his own music here.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, I've been taking care of business name porch pooper.
Speaker 4He don't even have his own music here. Oh yeah, this is awful. So the first time it happened, the person at home said they got a message that somebody's, you know, like your doorbell, that somebody's, yeah, in front of the house yeah so he went over and checked the camera and it looked. All he could see at the time when he got over there was something was on the porch, so he walked outside to the lot where a cat had been.
Speaker 3Cat.
Speaker 4Really.
Speaker 3I think cats are different. Cat poop is different than a full grown man poop.
Speaker 4It's different. So he went back and watched earlier to see what the cat looked like, saw that ain't no cat, it was a human, it was a man. The man walked on his porch porch, pulled his trousers down and used the bathroom. And it happened again like days later. This time he was able to. He did not use the bathroom, he was startled before he had a chance to finish the deed let it go.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, okay, um, okay it gets worse.
Speaker 4Okay, not only did he use the bathroom, but two he also urinated on the welcome mat.
Speaker 3He did one and two.
Speaker 4Yeah, and he peed on the welcome mat.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh, that's awesome.
Speaker 4Don't know. And they said they don't know the guy. They looked at us closely in his face. Have no clue.
Speaker 3Have they caught the guy?
Speaker 4No, they haven't caught him yet. Oh my gosh would you do that if you see a nest camera? Like, at least check for cameras first?
Speaker 3yeah, you gotta go, you gotta go, but you don't have to go on anybody's porch.
Speaker 4No, out in the yard would be much more considerate I would love to walk outside with the guy on the porch in mid mid drop, yeah, and kick him over. Yeah, pants around the ankles. It would not end well for the guy.
Speaker 3I can't imagine why anybody would want to do this. Maybe it's his enemy, I don't know. Maybe the porch pooper has an enemy, his arch enemy?
Speaker 4Yeah, I'll get you, I will poop on your porch.
Speaker 3Three times Three times. And pee on your welcome mat.
Speaker 4Wow, that is awful, that is awful. Don't do stuff like this. Don't porch poop. No, no, don't do anything on anybody's porch.
Speaker 3No.
Speaker 4Other than knock on the door nicely. Yes, yeah, don't poop on it, it's 738.
Speaker 1Mary and Holly on. Alabama's Country, giant WQSB.
Speaker 4I'm loving the weather for this week because as you go through the week, cool front comes in. Now, thursday, good chance of rain, but the high on Thursday is 73.
Speaker 3Ooh, yes, sir, yeah and for football Friday night.
Speaker 4You're looking at probably temps. The high on Friday is like mid-70s.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh, that's perfect.
Speaker 4Yeah, so maybe they can get rid of those heat timeouts. But anyway, we'll be talking more about football coming up. But please, welcome to the show. We use this music early. Let's use it again. He's taking care of business. What do you think of this one? I like it.
Speaker 3No, I don't like it no.
Speaker 4Will says no, okay, stop it.
Speaker 3Will didn't say no. Holly said no.
Speaker 4Why did you say no?
Speaker 3Because he's not taking care of business.
Speaker 4He always takes care of business.
Speaker 3He's here visiting us business. Let's let you speak for yourself.
Speaker 4I'll try to take care of business. He's not like some to come in here and take up space, but that's different. It would be trying to take good care of business. He's trying every day. Some take up space will, does n't? Well, you're right what I'm saying.
Speaker 3I know what you're saying yeah some people are just a butt in a seed. Some people are the workers. Will's one of them?
Speaker 4workers yeah, but in Will. Good to have you Will's in because he wanted to learn something. He goes, rachel. I don't know where Rachel is.
Speaker 3We don't know. We hadn't heard from Rachel today.
Speaker 4She hasn't checked in.
Speaker 3She hasn't checked in. I think maybe she took the day off.
Speaker 4I think she did. She takes every day off.
Speaker 3No, she doesn't. You're going to get in trouble. She, you're going to get in trouble.
Speaker 2She's enjoying a much-deserved break.
Speaker 4Yes, she is, she'll be in tomorrow, but Holly's Knowledge Nuggets. Even on Labor Day, you still pull out Knowledge Nuggets.
Speaker 3I still got the Nuggies. Yeah, I've got one that says 58% of men say it's a turn-off when they see a woman take a selfie. Boys.
Speaker 4I will agree, and especially the ones where you put your lips out like a duck like that, though I hate those. Yeah, I know why the kids do that like 50 times a minute my kids do this.
Speaker 3They stick their tongue out and they do the peace sign.
Speaker 2Oh, I don't know what it is about sticking the tongue out, but and, uh, I always hear people like on first dates, like the girls will start taking selfies and I'm like I'm, you know, on the first day.
Speaker 3No, wow, yeah. So what do y'all say if you see a woman unattractive or attractive non-attractive? What do you think when you see a woman taking a selfie?
Speaker 4I don't know, the age is a big part of it, but there's so many. Some of them take a selfie like, I think, every day.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 4If you were to look on Facebook, they have a different picture every day.
Speaker 2Yeah, I'm not a fan of that.
Speaker 3You know I'll take one, but nobody will see me take one. Yeah, Nobody's going to be like.
Speaker 4I hate those who take a lot of them and continue posting new ones like every day or so.
Speaker 3Well, sometimes people just need attention.
Speaker 4What about women who see men doing it? No, big hard. No, don't take a selfie.
Speaker 3No, that's weird and, like I said, if you take one, just don't do it where people are watching.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3Will actually takes selfies. Now his aren't bad because his will show like WQSP in the background.
Speaker 4There's a difference.
Speaker 3Or power in the background, and he always has some kind of message to go along with it.
Speaker 4There's a reason behind it.
Speaker 3Yeah, there's a reason behind it, there's a message.
Speaker 4But 90% of men I've noticed take them when they're driving down the road, but will have a steering wheel in front of them. You.
Speaker 3You're right, that's what they, you're right.
Speaker 4Which you could get arrested for that, or a ticket because you get your phone up.
Speaker 3Yep.
Speaker 4But anyway what?
Speaker 3else you got. 44% of women say that comfortable pajamas are the most important thing to take on a vacation.
Speaker 4What do you think?
Speaker 3It's my baby blanket.
Speaker 4Baby blanket yeah.
Speaker 3Really, it's my number one most important thing, so it's a comfort thing. It is yeah.
Speaker 4You've had it since you were a baby. I guess yes, Wow.
Speaker 3And it goes everywhere with me. And if I'm nervous it goes with me, if I'm sad it goes with me. I understand, but how does it smell?
Speaker 4Oh okay, here's the thing Bad, then I can't wash it. Your dog won't even pee on this. No.
Speaker 3The porch dog won't even pee on this. No, uh, the porch paper wouldn't even come to my house. I can't wash it. If you wash it, it loses its feel and it's a touch thing. That's the way it feels yeah I don't know, I can't explain it yeah what about y'all? What's your most important thing?
Speaker 4take on vacation it depends on if you're going to the beach or the mountains. You're going to the beach, yeah, what's your most? Important, not a bathing suit underwear okay, as long as you've got two or three clean pairs of underwear, you're ready to go yeah.
Speaker 3You can go anywhere, you can do anything, what about?
Speaker 2you Will Baby powder or something to prevent, like chafing.
Speaker 3Chafing. Oh yes, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2Got to prevent the chafe a hairdryer, but putting a hairdryer on the mattress what to see if bed bugs come up to the top. I did not know that. I don't explain this to me go around the corners of a mattress. So you can either get like a hairdryer or something like that to go around the corners of a mattress to see if bed bugs will rise up to the sheet really, that's how you can check it?
Speaker 3yep I've never heard of this. Oh my gosh, that is a knowledge nugget.
Speaker 4I'd kind of rather not know.
Speaker 3I would rather know. I would want to know. You had a funny story about a hotel room, but we can't tell it, but we want to tell you in a minute Will 25% of people like to eat macaroni and cheese after a bad day of work. I believe that yeah comfort food.
Speaker 4I agree with that.
Speaker 3Oh yeah Is? Oh, I believe that. Yeah, that's a comfort food. Yeah, I agree with that. Oh yeah, is there a certain food that?
Speaker 4what's your favorite food to eat like at lunch, just for lunch Mm-hmm I don't know After work.
Speaker 2Chips, chips.
Speaker 3Chips Mine's chicken fingers.
Speaker 2I love a good chicken finger, I knowito probably a taco oh yeah, that's a good one, that's good, all right hey, before you head out, we do want to serious for a moment.
Speaker 4You had over the weekend. I don't, if you don't mind, want to talk about that's fine, it's up to you if you want to say a few words.
Speaker 2But uh, you lost somebody in your family over the weekend yeah, uh, so saturday I I've lost my stepdad, uh, daryl furr. He, him, and my mom, been married for over 17, 18 years. Um, you know, a really good man, a really, uh, selfless man. I've, um, you know, told a few stories yesterday and the day before, um, that he was always, you know, seemed really selfless. Um, like, anytime you'd come around he he'd always have, like always ask you a bottle. If you needed a bottle of water, you'd be in the middle of drinking it. Hey, need a bottle of water.
Speaker 2He was also one that helped us go to Cape San Blas every year, so that was another place for him to kind of relax and get away from the world and everything. So, you know, it's been emotional. You know, all know, I lost my daughter, cameron, back in April and then now losing my stepdad just a few days ago. But the fact and I told you all just a second ago the fact that I'm here this morning and family around, God still has a purpose and God is still good.
Speaker 2And one thing I had to tell my mom, and my stepsister told my mom, was that cameron was waiting on him oh, that's good.
Speaker 3Yeah, oh, they give me feels.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's good, yeah so, but, um, but thank y'all for for acknowledging that and it's been tough, but, um, you know we're gonna persevere through it and, like I said, you know god's got a plan for us. He still got used for us. So, um, if anybody out there's listening, uh, you know, if you're here today, god has used for you. He has a plan for us. He's still got use for us. So, if anybody out there is listening, you know if you're here today, god has use for you. He has a plan for you. So just listen to Him, trust Him and have faith in Him, because all the time, god is good.
Speaker 4He uses you in so many ways. Will You're here to help so many people?
Speaker 3I only had a chance to meet your stepdad the one time we went to shoot the video for the for christopher vacation video he's so sweet super nice. Yeah, I was very impressed and your mom is so sweet too. They're so accommodating.
Speaker 2Yes yeah, and and that's one thing that you know, I for the rest of our life that he instilled in me and instilled in um, my stepbrother, my stepsister was, uh, you know being uh selfless and you know being a servant, asking if anybody needs anything, because, uh, to me, that shows true commitment to others, and what God's called us to do is help serve others, lay ourselves down and put others ahead and also put God at the forefront.
Speaker 4If you want to mention his name again in case somebody missed part of that.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's Daryl Furr.
Speaker 4Yeah, got you. Well, we'll think about you and pray for you. Well, thank you, All right. 758. Wqsb mornings with Barry and Holly. Country music news. Lou Bryan has finally sold his stunning oceanfront mansion in Florida. Maybe that's where Rachel is. She's close hunting the papers for the deal.
Speaker 4Maybe, have you seen the mansion no? Five bedrooms, five bathrooms, 4,600 square foot beach house in Santa Rosa Beach. He put it up for sale for $18 million back in 2022. Never sold it, so he sold it over the weekend for $11.5 million. That's almost $7 million under what he was hoping to sell it for.
Speaker 3Well, but that's how the market is it is $11.5 million. How about?
Speaker 4Lainey Wilson. She had a wardrobe malfunction. She accidentally gave fans a real show, she said. Recently in concert she suffered an embarrassing malfunction when her pants ripped. Oh no, yeah. In Brooklyn, michigan, at the Country Music and Camping Festival, she said she stepped out in a pair of purple pants but after becoming aware that her pants had ripped, she headed off stage, had to change into some dark jeans that she had just laying around. Oh no, she said. Some of the people out in front, if they were looking closely, they got an eyeful. Oh, by the way, she said over the weekend. She said I can't confirm this, can't tell you. They've asked me not to. But she gave a a wink and said there's a very good chance you'll see her in yellowstone season five when it comes up in november can't wait for that so you know, she has that little oh yeah so good chance she'll be back in there, at least for a scene or two.
Speaker 3Okay, yeah listen to this. The leading track on miranda lambert's postcards from texas album has the weirdest song to the Lone Star State.
Speaker 4I want to see the video for this one, if there is one Lambert recently gave a preview into Armadillo.
Speaker 3It's the name of a song that tells a story to Wild Makeup. The main character in this song is a hitchhiking armadillo, with more than a few surprises up his sleeve. Yeah, like what? Well, the lyric says I met an armadillo out in an arm armarillo, and he asked for a lot. So she's singing. I said where are you going? He said I don't really know. And I said, brother, I've been there twice but here's where it gets better then he hopped on the shotgun and he started rolling one.
Speaker 3I said we're to get along just fine, an armadillo with a doobie and a coldie and a koozie. I'd be driving to the county line Coming out in September 13th.
Speaker 4That sounds pretty funny. Yep, I want to see the video.
Speaker 3I want to see an armadillo smoking a doobie, I do too, that'll be good.
Speaker 4Yeah, it's 8-15.
Speaker 1Mornings with Barry and Hall here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.
Speaker 4Morning's crime story, another Florida story.
Speaker 3Oh, good Lord, what's going on now I?
Speaker 4hate to keep mentioning this, but we have so many weird ones out of Florida I know Escambia County, florida Headline says a naked woman disrupts birthday with doll antics. What A woman was arrested for walking around outside with no clothes on during a neighbor's birthday party. What? Yeah, gray Sand was 50, or is 56. She was charged with indecent exposure. It happened a week ago, sunday, in Pensacola as her neighbor was having a birthday party. The report said the neighbor told deputies around 7pm, which is still daylight.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 4She walked up naked to the chain link fence. I mean, if it's a fence, one thing, if it's got like wood chain link, you can still see what God gave you. So anyway, she was reportedly waving around plastic doll legs. Plastic doll legs like Barbie legs.
Speaker 3Why.
Speaker 4Don't know.
Speaker 3Is this a mental health?
Speaker 4or drug thing. They say drugs were involved.
Speaker 3Okay.
Speaker 4When the neighbor told Sharp she was naked, she said I know it's hot outside, so she went back inside the home. When deputies were called, that's where they found her still nude, holding the doll legs Barbie-type doll legs, Not the body. Where did the body go? They don't know.
Speaker 3What made her think? You know what? I'm going to rip the legs off this doll. And she was. Oh my, oh my.
Speaker 4The gestures you just gave me. We won't get into that For real, yeah, for real.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4For real.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh, she, she was doing obscene things.
Speaker 4She was With the doll legs, and this is a birthday party, oh Wow.
Speaker 3So she crashed a birthday party by doing this.
Speaker 4She walked up to the chain link fence, I guess because she was mad because she wasn't invited. Well, if you do stuff like that with doll legs, no wonder you weren't invited. Who wants that at a party?
Speaker 3That's weird. Yeah, that's weird, that's strange.
Speaker 1Oh range. Oh, what are y'all doing out in florida? Reel it back in. Yeah, it's 8, 26 on alabama's country giant wqsb.
Speaker 3A couple of new sponsors for this month, so tell them who they are we do thank you to anna weather smith, with the main street realty, and thank you to miguel corona with all state agency if you'd like to maybe consider sponsoring the podcast sometime in the near future.
Speaker 4Let us know, yeah you can do so by messaging us. If you need more details, you can always call us here at qsb. All right now, you believe in this? You say it's possible. According to a university of california, san diego study, researchers have found that you can really talk to dogs using soundboard buttons. Yes, now describe these exactly. Can really talk to dogs using soundboard buttons? Yes, now describe these exactly. We're talking. What kind of soundboard?
Speaker 3Okay. So it's on the ground, and then there's little buttons that the dog can push and it can say different things like let me go ahead and say it can help your dog communicate with simple ideas like park. There's one for food, there's one for happy, there will be one for mom. I love that one, but they use these to tell you what they want okay.
Speaker 4So how do the dogs know which button is which?
Speaker 3well, you would train them to like press the park, park park, and then take them to the park.
Speaker 4Do that a few times food, like if everyone said treat yes, treat, give it a treat, your dog. Well, you can say the way you say dog, you can say the word treat, and he knows what you're saying.
Speaker 3I'll go one step further. You can spell it and he knows what it is.
Speaker 4That's impressive If.
Speaker 3I say T-R-E-A-T, he goes wild.
Speaker 4You need to video that. Yeah, I need to.
Speaker 3That is pretty cool, I've got the coolest dog in the world.
Speaker 4So so Doug the dog, he hits us on Facebook page.
Speaker 3He doesn't do anything else like any more tricks. Well, that one, he does that lifting the leg and pooping While he pooped. That was amazing.
Speaker 4You had more comments on our Facebook page when you told that story. I want to see that.
Speaker 3Can you show poop on Facebook? I don't know.
Speaker 4Well, we'll see.
Speaker 3We would get in trouble. Mrs C would not approve.
Speaker 4Well, it's a trick that no other dog can do, that we know of.
Speaker 3He lifted his leg, lifted the leg.
Speaker 4As to pee.
Speaker 3And pooped at the same time and did both. He did a number three, not a one or just a two. A number three. That's hilarious, it is wild. You've got a video of that, yeah, but anyway.
Speaker 4So back to the soundboard, so they are teaching dogs and they claim that the dogs learn which button is which? Uh-huh. Do you think they just know from the location of the button or the actual words on the button, or do they even have words on the button?
Speaker 3They don't have words on the button. I think that they do it by memory and it's usually. If you see this, it's usually the doodles that know how to do this. The poodle mixes, I don't know. They're really smart.
Speaker 4So they go to the same button if they want a treat and know which button it is. Yes, gotcha.
Speaker 3You can see this on TikTok. Just search dog talking board, something like that, and it'll pop up. You can see it. I'll show you. I'll show you a video.
Speaker 4This would never happen with cats.
Speaker 3No, they would ever happen with cats. Uh no, they would walk over and lay down on it and take a nap on it.
Speaker 4Uh, yes, then ask you to please feed me and if you'll me off the button, you move me yeah, and it would also have a very foul mouth button for cats for going on button situation. I don't see cats being very friendly in their language.
Speaker 3If they could, if they could speak english no, it would be like which cuss word is he going to yell at me today? That's what kind of cat board it would be.
Speaker 4Exactly Yep. Okay, but don't forget video Doug when you get a chance.
Speaker 3Okay, I will If they can do that trick. If he does it again, I've only seen it once in my life.
Speaker 4We're going to put him on AGT if he can do that. Okay, you some money. It's 840. Wqsb Mornings with Barry and Holly. But first the morning's quote of the day. Before the quote don't forget to join us Coming up at 10 o'clock. We'll be live in Sylvania, the big Sylvania Labor Day Festival going on. We'll be at the town park. We'll be there from 10 till noon. Come by and say hi to us. Yeah, in the meantime we like to throw in a funny one every now and then. Our quote and Jim Gaffigan. I like Jim Gaffigan, one of the best stand-up comedians. He had a quote back a few years ago you want to share with the others.
Speaker 3Yeah, it says. To some people, going to bed feels like the highlight of their day. Ironically, to their children, bedtime is a punishment that violates all their basic rights as human beings.
Speaker 4Yes, I've seen this Been through it. That's when they begin negotiating deals. Yes, 30 more minutes.
Speaker 3I'm thirsty I want something to eat. I'm hungry.
Speaker 4Yes.
Speaker 3I can't ever let my kids go to bed thirsty or hungry. It drives me crazy. Of course not I mean when they say that it's like I've got to feed them.
Speaker 4Yeah, the years begin negotiating the deals. It was like 30 more minutes and tomorrow I'll pick up my clothes or I'll clean up my room. No, you would think the world's coming to them because they're going to bed.
Speaker 3Yeah, I know, but like I said earlier, they don't let us sleep, no, so why should we let them sleep?
Speaker 4You wake up and they're pulling your eyelids open and trying to say are you up?
Speaker 3They're counting my eyelashes, Mama mama, mama, mama, mama, mama.
Speaker 4Yeah, it's 8.52.
Speaker 1Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.
