Good morning at 606. I love that song.

Speaker 2:

Do you Wow?

Speaker 1:

Because it's been in a lot of movies.

Speaker 2:

And there's another reason too, I know that's why I was setting you up, but it's been in a lot of movies and there's another reason too.

Speaker 1:

I know that's how I was setting you up, but it's been in a lot of movies, like I think it was Night at the Museum. Okay, ben Stiller, I think it was the first one. Towards the end, all the little museum pieces were dancing around. Yeah, you've never seen Night at the Museum. No Love that. Never seen it.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you need kid robin williams was in it. Uh, but anyway, that does say the 21st day of september which is my daughter's birthday.

Speaker 1:

Yay, reagan, happy birthday. Reagan's having a birthday tomorrow yay. And she always thought it was so cool. When I pointed out to her and says little, that you have a song that mentions your birthday in the song, she says, no way I sit here, let me. Let me prove it.

Speaker 2:

Do you remember the 21st time of September? Yes, I do. I bet you do.

Speaker 1:

I don't think I had, because she was slow coming into the world as far as the time for the baby to be here, and then it went over like 24 hours.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh. Yeah, I think they play that in Trolls too. I think that's, yeah, I think so. It's really cute. That's such a cool movie. Yeah, I think they play that in Trolls too. I think that's, yeah, I think so it's really cute.

Speaker 1:

That's such a cool movie yeah. Now, of course, today is not the 21st, it's tomorrow. So we've got to play it today because we won't be here tomorrow.

Speaker 2:

No, we won't be here tomorrow. We've got to take the opportunity.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but that's a good song, though Of course it will be the exact opposite of what fall should be, I know, but 91 today, tomorrow and Sunday in the 90s. All weekend A little more humid, clear tonight, 65. High school football Big change from last Friday. Last Friday some of the games were pushed back and delayed, didn't even start until like 9 in some cases. Some games last Friday night weren't over until Saturday morning Whoa.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's way too late, but tonight, no problems Going to feel good Kickoff you're looking at probably low to mid-80s and then overnight low down to 65. So it's going to be a beautiful weekend. This morning as you walk out, at 62 in Fort Payne, we're at 64 here at WQSB. We'll talk weather which does include a chance of rain coming in next week, but that's still days away. We'll be talking NASCAR map Talladega coming up in just a couple of weeks away and we have your chance to qualify to win tickets. And we'll be joined by our special guest, Talladega Super Speedway President, Brian Crichton. We talked to Brian last year. Yeah, Super guy, that would be so cool to be in charge of the Speedway. You can just get out there. I wonder if he takes his personal car out there and drives around the track.

Speaker 2:

I don't know, how could you not?

Speaker 1:

Wouldn't you Well?

Speaker 2:

yeah, I bet let's open this Jeep up, let's go.

Speaker 1:

See what we got here. Yeah, you want to race, yeah.

Speaker 2:

You want to race, let's go. It feels President of the United States.

Speaker 1:

It is.

Speaker 2:

But for NASCAR.

Speaker 1:

We need to give him some like sound effects whenever he's oh yeah, like some racing sound effects whenever he's on the air and said that might have helped, like something like this.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that won't distract him at all.

Speaker 1:

That's actually Highway 431. This morning we're turning on a traffic cam.

Speaker 2:

You know what? There really is a lot of traffic out there today and I don't know why it's so early. Why are y'all up?

Speaker 1:

Everybody's getting up earlier, I guess it's to listen to the morning show? I don't know, probably. Hey, congratulations to Felicia Bearden. Felicia is our latest podcast winner. Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:

I may. It's so good and you get a free 16-inch for yes, so you need to listen to our podcast.

Speaker 1:

When it goes up later this morning You'll find it on our Facebook page and comment on it. Tell us something about it and then, if you tell us something, you may be the winner on Monday morning. All right Time to get busy this morning. How do you know?

Speaker 2:

Things you need to know today, on this Friday, september the 20th. What is going on today?

Speaker 1:

So today is one of my favorite days. Today is National Queso, day. Yup, oh yeah Love queso oh yeah, oh, so good.

Speaker 2:

Get your friends load up and go to the Mexican restaurants, get you some chips and queso and celebrate Queso Day. Yes, so Velveeta cheese is featured in one of the first queso recipes in 1939.

Speaker 1:

Wow, I didn't know that. I know. Tell me if this sounds good. Here's what's known about how Velveeta cheese was made, because we've talked about this, because most cheese real cheese is in the refrigerated section at the grocery store. Velveeta's is hanging around out there on the shelf.

Speaker 2:

Yep, I know, in 1918, the maker of Velveeta cheese, mixed cheese, byproducts with broken cheese bits to form a cheese block that would be known as Velveeta.

Speaker 1:

Oh wow, yes.

Speaker 2:

Sounds good, doesn't it Not really? Yeah, cheese byproducts yeah.

Speaker 1:

What is a byproduct?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, but if you'll look at the slices of individual cheese it'll say like cheese flavored food product.

Speaker 1:

So really, the cheese slices we're buying in the grocery store is really not real cheese.

Speaker 2:

No, it's not like American cheese that you get on cheeseburgers when you're out and about. Not real cheese. It's weird.

Speaker 1:

But Velveeta cheese is probably the furthest away from being real cheese. Still it's like it's 13th. Velveeta cheese is probably the farthest away from being real cheese still it's like it's 13th cousin or something. Oh man, your mother's cousin's cousin's cousin's cousin yeah, you knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy. Yeah, like oh, you made a little sponge out of me.

Speaker 4:

Like once I met this guy, who knew this guy, who knew this guy, who knew this guy, who knew this guy, who knew this guy's cousin.

Speaker 1:

Who made Velveeta cheese.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Regardless of where it comes from and how it's made. I love Velveeta cheese.

Speaker 2:

I know it's so good in like Rotel dip.

Speaker 1:

Yes, makes the best grilled cheese because you can slice it as thick as you want it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Put it on the grilled cheese.

Speaker 2:

Here's something you need to know. The eight largest movie theater chains in North America, which is AMC, regal, cinemark and others, have announced a collective investment of over $2.2 billion to upgrade more than 21,000 screens in the next three years.

Speaker 1:

That's needed Sure. I love going to the movies.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm. The modernization efforts will include improving sound and projection quality. Enhanced dining experiences Ooh yes, many have other foods than just popcorn, and candy quality, enhanced dining experiences.

Speaker 1:

Many have other foods than just popcorn and candy now.

Speaker 2:

And potentially adding attractions. This is weird, like pickleball and zip lines in certain locations.

Speaker 1:

Hold on you go to the movies to play pickleball no no.

Speaker 2:

Hold on, mama. Do I have time to zip line?

Speaker 1:

We've got to hurry on it. The movie starts in five minutes. We've got to get our $1,000 popcorn and our drink, so what would they charge to zip line before the movie?

Speaker 2:

Oh man, you don't have enough money.

Speaker 1:

Why would you go to the movies to pickleball. I don't know or play pickleball.

Speaker 2:

I don't know Pickleball's becoming super popular.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And it's supposed to be a lot of fun to play. I don't know if I would be good at it because I'm not very fast or quick or agile, that's true, but I would try it yeah.

Speaker 1:

But not at the movies. Okay, if you're going out on a date and you're all dressed up and you've got a few minutes to kill and he or she says, hey, before the movie starts, might I go play a little game of pickleball? My buddy is over there. I'm going to play a quick game of pickleball.

Speaker 2:

No, babe no.

Speaker 1:

You come back and sit down and you're all sweaty and stinky, uh-uh.

Speaker 2:

Can't play pickleball all day. You reach over and hold your hand.

Speaker 1:

You've got sweat rolling down beads of sweat and you smell like armpit.

Speaker 2:

Is that what pickleball does to you? I guess, oh, Don't it, look fun though it does, I want to play. Yeah, I want to play too. I love tennis. Where do we go?

Speaker 1:

We'll find a pickleball, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

There's people that play down in Guntersville by the lake and I've always wondered is this just a collective group of people that you can walk up and be like, hey guys, can I play pickleball with you? Or is it a group of exclusive members, only, Exclusive members only? It's a club. It's a club. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I don't know. We should go play and start playing full contact pickleball and just freak them out. Oh yeah, and tackle, Tackling and chest bumping and pushing and shoving and say, hey, this is how we play all up up in the mountain.

Speaker 2:

You're not from our neck of the woods.

Speaker 1:

No, we don't play full contact down here.

Speaker 2:

And here's something to think about. You know that times are rough when you realize, like I did last night, that Think about this If robbers ever broke into my house and demanded for money and searched for it, I would just have to laugh.

Speaker 1:

And search with them. I don't have any money. Yeah, let's find it guys. Yeah, come on, come on, come on, I want to know where it is. Yes, maybe you know a spot, I hit it, but I don't remember. Let's go find this stuff. Yeah, yeah, thanks for stopping by.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, at 6, 15 mornings with barry and holly here on alabama's country giant wqsb well, this morning is, since you've been gone, talking about toys.

Speaker 1:

Now we've talked about the hobby horse. Earlier this week that's the new craze in Finland and Sweden, actually hobby horse competitions, where adults ride them around a track. Now I'm looking at this and saying that the hobby horse is actually up for the Toy Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the National Toy Hall of Fame has announced this year's finalists for induction. It has balloons, which I think is why is it not already in there? Why?

Speaker 1:

isn't the balloon? Balloons have been around forever.

Speaker 2:

It's just a toy. You can blow it up.

Speaker 1:

You can play like balloon ball in the living room. It's called Keepy Uppy Keepy, that's what it's called.

Speaker 2:

Keepy, uppy, keepy. That's what it's called.

Speaker 1:

Keepy Uppy, keepy Uppy. I didn't know that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's what it's called Okay, yeah, but it also has Transformers. Yeah, choose your Own Adventure books. Do you remember those?

Speaker 1:

Don't remember those. My Little Pony, yes, Pokemon cards are all among the 12 finalists.

Speaker 2:

It's like I almost remember what that is, but I don't Well look, I'll type it in Hess Toy Trucks.

Speaker 1:

Toy Trucks are in there. Phase 10 is in there. Remote Controlled Vehicles Sequence the Game as well as Trampoline, and so Trampoline is also in there. You can go online to museumofplayorg and vote. Then they'll announce which one or two goes into the Hall of Fame in just a few weeks. Which one did you vote for? Balloons.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, balloons get no respect. I mean they don't. They're so popular right now with balloon arches and stuff that are being made, and they always are at all of our church events. Like the balloon guy will come and make balloon animals.

Speaker 1:

I think that's a talent right there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it is, it's neat.

Speaker 1:

Looking up apples. Oh okay, it's a game.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

It plays with cards. I've never played apples to apples, though.

Speaker 2:

I don't think I have either I don't recognize any of this.

Speaker 1:

It looked like a game I wouldn't want to play. I think I ten, isn't it close to uno? I don't know. I think it is apples to apples, like something will be hard to cheat at. Oh, so I'm gonna pass on that, okay, well, if you can't cheat it, don't play it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, a survey of 800 americans found that 56 percent of respondents would be happy with a net worth of two hundred thousand dollars I'd be happy with two hundred dollars yeah, I would be too well negative is tough actually, women tend to be more content with less money than men Do you agree with that? Based on me? Yes, Based on friends of mine? No, Because of the Lululemons and all these expensive makeup and perfume. To be a girl is not cheap.

Speaker 1:

No, well, there's a big difference. It says women would be happy with $100,000. Men need at least $200,000 to be happy. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And current salary says that 66% of those that earn $40,000 will be happy with $100,000 per year. Yeah, I would. I would too Sure.

Speaker 1:

Yep and 61% Sign me up.

Speaker 2:

Yep with a salary of $150,000, disagree.

Speaker 1:

Where do we go to sign up for this $100,000?

Speaker 2:

I don't know. I don't know. We ask Mrs C.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Can you pass both $100,000, please? Actually, you would get $200,000. I would get $100,000. Because I'm a man Because you're a man. Yeah, yeah, that's not right. No, the average parent gets just 31 minutes of me time per day. A survey of 2,000 working parents found yeah, the average parent pulls an 18-hour day, while non-working parents have a 17-hour day.

Speaker 1:

Okay, and what that means is it doesn't mean you go to a job for 18 hours, but your job doesn't necessarily end when you get home. Oh yeah, it doesn't You've got things to do, whether it's mow the yard or cook dinner or wash clothes. Your day doesn't end until you lay down and go to bed.

Speaker 1:

sometimes, oh yeah, I know 56% of all, parents say that they feel guilty for not spending enough time with their kids. I think that that makes me feel better. Yeah, I agree part of the 56. I feel guilty now from not spending enough when they were a little uh-huh. Yeah, I know because you think work is so important.

Speaker 2:

I know it is because you need the money, but uh, when all is said and done, they'll replace you once you're gone, I know I was looking at pictures of my girls this week, back when they were young, around 2020, about four years ago and I thought that everything was so hard and so bad because the pandemic had hit. We were quarantined alone. I was used to them going to daycare and me working from home. I would give anything, anything for just one day of that chaos and the mama, mama and the I need you and the.

Speaker 1:

Well, you've got to come in this weekend. So on the average weekend, 31 minutes. Is that about average for you? For just you, for me, time for you 31 minutes.

Speaker 2:

It's less. I don't get me time when I get my girls, but I don't want me time when I get my girls, but I don't want me time when I get my girls. I want my girl time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I agree with you. Yep, all right. 6.31.

Speaker 4:

Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country Giant WQSB. Crazy, crazy, crazy crazy crazy but true.

Speaker 1:

Crazy but true. Now, when you think of Hawaii. I've never been to Hawaii. I'd love to go. It's just too far across the ocean to get there. I don't know if I'd want to fly a plane across that much water, really, yeah.

Speaker 2:

You wouldn't go.

Speaker 1:

It's a long way across water. I would go. There's no land, it's water yeah.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh. Yes, but when you think of Hawaii.

Speaker 1:

You think of this beautiful scenery and you don't think of this. There's phrases that come out of a recent uh news story. Hawaiian hawaiian hikers reported they had some stomach issues and it wasn't just one or two people, it's an entire group of them and apparently this has hit 50 people. 50 hikers fell ill between august and early september with a norovirus along the famed uh there's a I don't know call allow trail which has been closed, but for deep cleaning.

Speaker 1:

No, this is outdoors. It's a trail through the beautiful trees and the beautiful bushes and the flowers. They had to close it because this norovirus hit the hikers. And here's what some of those interviewed said that the they felt like the? Uh. They were violently hollowing their innards, their guts were exploding all over that land. Oh my gosh, the uh. They say that they thought they may not make it to where there were people to help them. They said you think gushing waterfalls or something you should have seen us.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I bet they felt like crap.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, got like crap. One says my guts were exploding all over that land. Not what I wanted to do at all. One minute I'm enjoying the scenery, beautiful weather. Next minute I'm fighting for my life, hoping that I'll be able to make it out and find people to help me.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So 50 people just all of a sudden start both ends.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Testing determined that the norovirus, a germ, was igniting explosive outbreaks in the Granite Doors West to blame possibly from some water that they were drinking from a stream. They were getting the water from a stream.

Speaker 2:

And I think I could so be wrong on this because I haven't Googled it or anything, but I think norovirus is very contagious and I think that it spreads quickly. Well, obviously it spreads quickly.

Speaker 1:

Because there was one group of 12 hikers.

Speaker 1:

They went into a group and had a tourist, a guide said all 12, even the guide, were hit with this virus let me see if it's the same time and then overall very contagious yeah in a matter of a couple of weeks, 50 hikers were ill and it was so bad, so bad they've had to close the trail and deep clean it. You know, you hear of deep cleaning a house, you know, maybe doing some work in the yard, but when you're deep cleaning an entire trail, that's horrible.

Speaker 2:

That is, that really is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

But they had a blast.

Speaker 1:

Had a blast. Apparently they had a few 50 of them, 50 of them. Can you imagine the cleaners have to go in?

Speaker 2:

No, and what do you do?

Speaker 1:

just spray off the dirt, just hose it down, because you've got a cleaning service and you go to the call and say, yes, can we help you?

Speaker 2:

deep cleaning, uh I mean you can't, you can't like, bleach it and wipe it up with a rag when it's outside they say, yeah, we need to help with something, we need something clean.

Speaker 1:

Okay, is it a home? Is it a business? No, it's. It's a beautiful outdoors, it's a trail. Oh, okay, what happened? Well, 50 people exploded all over the land and we need everything clean both hands from the ground, from the trees, from the bushes, from the leaves, everything and they'll say you know what?

Speaker 2:

this is not the toughest job we've had, but it's a Close number two, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean you imagine it would be awful.

Speaker 2:

It would be awful, it would yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh, my God, you're proud of yourself for that one, yeah. That was a good one, all right, 644.

Speaker 4:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

He's in the news, he's in Holly's pile of stories, but first actress Alicia Silverstone, and she hasn't done a lot in a while, has she Not really?

Speaker 2:

No, she was big and clueless in the 90s. She was in.

Speaker 1:

Batman. She played a bat girl in one of the Batman movies.

Speaker 2:

She did, and that's really about it, yeah. Well, now she's starring in commercials for plant paper.

Speaker 1:

What is plant paper?

Speaker 2:

It plant paper. What is plant paper? It's a line of toilet paper. So Alicia Silverson says that regular toilet paper is contributing to your risk of cancer. No, it says that by containing chemicals collectively known as PFA's. I don't.

Speaker 1:

Regular toilet paper. Regular toilet paper, that's the last thing we need to hear.

Speaker 2:

I know, and it's saying that it has cancer causing agents. I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so all the, a lot of the foods that we're talking about, a lot of the drinks, a lot of the things we enjoy. They're a problem. Now we're telling, being told the toilet paper also is giving us problems let me tell you this real quick story yesterday I got a picture frame from walmart to go into my house.

Speaker 2:

It was a cheap one, it was like $1.98. And it had a sticker on the back that said this product is known to contain chemicals that are cancer-causing.

Speaker 1:

Really A picture frame.

Speaker 2:

A picture frame.

Speaker 1:

Just by it being in your house.

Speaker 2:

I guess. And then I'm like what do I do with this information? Wow, I wish I'd seen it before I bought it. I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Well, look at this now. So now you can eat, drink or wipe without having a problem.

Speaker 2:

I bet those people with the norovirus would use plant-based paper.

Speaker 1:

They would have used a picture frame to wipe if they had it yes they would have Anything. They've got their hands on Yep zone.

Speaker 2:

Yep, okay, and I'm excited for this one. For the first time in a decade, uncrustable fans have a new pb and j flavor to take out for a spin. I'm so excited. Peanut butter and raspberry yes, raspberry yes, it says that they're in stores now the new peanut butter and raspberry spread and crustables will have no seeds in the raspberry spread I wondered about that because, like raspberries and blackberries have seeds, have seeds, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Okay, we'll have to find those.

Speaker 2:

I would have been mad if they would have had the seeds. I would have liked that little crunch Really. Yeah, it'd be good.

Speaker 1:

I don't know how you crunch, but I don't know if it sounds like that.

Speaker 2:

It does too. Yeah, it's like your dog. During Jelly Roll's performance of the Cajun Dawn in Lafayette, louisiana, on Friday, september 13th, jelly made the evening even more special for two newlyweds in the audience. So he was performing his hit Son of a Sinner, and then he noticed a sign in the crowd that said Just Married. And he said on the mic Hold on, y'all really just got married when Today, and so the newlyweds showed them their wedding pictures on their phone, which was then shown on the arena's big screen. Isn't?

Speaker 2:

that cool, that is cool, that is so cool yeah so jelly asked a couple who alerted earlier that day if they thought of where they wanted to go on their honeymoon. But they said they hadn't thought about it. And then Jelly, in his good heart fashion, says I'll tell you what. I'm going to give you $10,000 to go, if that's okay with you.

Speaker 1:

That is awesome yeah.

Speaker 2:

I'm just going to give you $10,000.

Speaker 1:

They got married and spent their honeymoon at his show that night, just because they wanted it. They couldn't pass it up, yeah, so he gives them $10,000.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and then he walks over there and we'll all quote $10,000.

Speaker 1:

Come see the video. It's on our Facebook page. It is so cool. I love Jelly Road $6.54.

Speaker 4:

Speaker 1:

You know, christmas. Here we are coming. In what? September, the 20th Mm-hmm. 20th October, november, three months away from Christmas. Oh, and how do they do this? Now you say your mom likes to watch the Hallmark Channel. Oh, my gosh, yes, the Christmas movies.

Speaker 2:

It stays on the Hallmark Channel.

Speaker 1:

A lot of folks do. But Hallmark has announced their countdown to Christmas is coming up October the 18th. They will include 31 new movies, 31 new Christmas movies. How can they do that?

Speaker 2:

I don't see how they could create 31 new plots. No, they're all the same to me. And mom begs to differ. She says that they're all different, that they all have different characters. Okay, it may not be the right story, but it's always Pretty much. It's the hardworking single mom.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

That lives in New York and doesn't have time to take care of her kids. Yeah, that lives in New. York and doesn't have time to take care of her kids, travels down to the south on a little Christmas tree farm, falls in love with somebody that's blue collar, that's going to take her in and love her children as their own, and happily ever after, and yeah, that's it. Yeah, that's it. So let's twist it 31 ways.

Speaker 1:

How can you do 31 different One? I think would be hard to do One different one, but 31? I know that amazes me, I know, I know, yeah, but we thought about it for a while. I thought, you know, I wonder if they thought of every possibility and we come up with three more that I don't think they've done One to me.

Speaker 1:

I think they should include the rock. Put the rock in one of these and call it Jingle Bell Rock, and let the rock replace Elf Will Farrell, the North Pole. Let him become the new Elf and help Santa save Christmas. Jingle Bell Rock what do you think?

Speaker 2:

Okay, that's.

Speaker 1:

Can you picture Rock running around in those little green tights?

Speaker 2:

No, I can't, but I bet he would. Yeah, what else you got?

Speaker 1:

What about Baby it's Mold Inside? What about baby it's mold inside Instead of baby it's cold outside?

Speaker 2:

Oh, maybe it's mold inside Okay.

Speaker 1:

There's an uptight New York executive finds black mold in her apartment the week before Christmas. Luckily, a toxic mold specialist lives nearby and allows her to stay on his pig farm over the holidays and romance blossoms.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I see that happening.

Speaker 1:

Baby, it's mold inside. Yeah, I can see that. I know it's a little dark, yeah, but I mean you've run out of ideas.

Speaker 2:

I mean that could be a possibility. I think you should probably send that one in.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now you're a Game of Thrones fan, which I miss. Game of Thrones, I like that. I mean, I wish it was back. I wish it was back, I wish we had more of them. I didn't like the way it ended. To be honest with you, I know I didn't either. But what if they had like simply having a Winterfell Christmastime? Oh gosh, you remember Winter? Yes, Winterfell. Winterfell from Game of Thrones. This one. The Game of Thrones characters are back with a hilarious and uplifting Christmas musical special. I don't see, what do you?

Speaker 2:

think, come on, don't knock it, okay. I could see them doing like. Like Jon Snow 12 Days of Christmas. Yeah, isn't that the song? Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

You could even do the Bringing the Dragons.

Speaker 2:

You know it's cold Five flying dragons, four, four brand starts, three Winter fails, two People locked in.

Speaker 1:

Fells Two.

Speaker 2:

Glasses of wine Because I drank so much wine, and a person Locked in the dungeon.

Speaker 1:

See, there you go. It's perfect. Better I like it better. Who knows, I may be stealing her ideas.

Speaker 2:

You may, you might be, I don't know?

Speaker 1:

Okay, quote of the day. What's going on today?

Speaker 2:

The quote's from Mr Rogers today and he says it's not so much what we have in this life that matters, it's what we do with what we have. It's true?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it is true. You could have all the money in the world If you don't do good things with it, I think. Then what's the use? Yeah, don't just Go out and buy cars and stuff and planes and jets and boats. Do good with what you have. Yeah, some people do more with less than those do with a lot.

Speaker 2:

Well, things that you can do with what you have doesn't necessarily take money. Just to help somebody unload their groceries from their car to their car at the grocery store, yep. Or to help somebody pick something up off that top shelf that they can't reach, or put that case of water in their cart for them. There's things that you can do that, even if you don't have a lot, you still have a lot to offer.

Speaker 1:

You're right. Reach out to those who maybe don't have a lot of friends or family.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You just reach out to them. It means more than probably handing them a million dollars. Reach out to them. It means more than probably handing them a million dollars. Oh yeah, Sure, they'd like to have it, but they would rather just have a friend sometimes. Yep, All right 716.

Speaker 4:

Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country Giant WQSB. My cherry pie sweet cherry pie A couple of food stories.

Speaker 1:

We'll talk about Starbucks, but first Chipotle's doing something interesting. We'll talk about Starbucks, but first Chipotle's doing something interesting. They're going to celebrate National Quesadilla Day with a $1 million giveaway through Buy One, get One Free promotion. They're doing Now Chipotle's. I know there's one, huntsville, birmingham. They're going to give you clues and stuff where you can possibly find something that can win you free quesadillas for a long, long time.

Speaker 2:

Well, that's exciting I love quesadillas. Yeah, and.

Speaker 1:

I love Chipotle. I know years ago they had some problems with some sickness, you know, some food poisoning, almost shut them down completely. I didn't know about that they have fought back and recovered. I think some people died over it. No, yeah, but they have fought back and recovered and doing much better. It really is good.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I like Chipotle. I wish we had one closer. I didn't know, people died.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh Lord, yeah, fall at Starbucks.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they are welcoming new pecan flavors. Fold cold foam for fall. These are so good. It combines it's. They're both made with the blonde espresso roast, so it's a light coffee with creamy oat milk. It has those rich, buttery notes and nutty flavors of pecan and I just checked my app and you can down. You can order these today so they're're available now.

Speaker 1:

They're available now. Do they sound good to you?

Speaker 2:

They sound good to me. I want to try the cold foam, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Get one and let us know how they taste. Okay, more details are on our Facebook page at 726.

Speaker 4:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly. Oh man.

Speaker 1:

Mornings. Come on man Story. How about story? How about the guy who's been paying the wrong utility bill for years just now found out?

Speaker 2:

for two years he was paying not only his bill, but his neighbor's power bill for two years a california guy.

Speaker 1:

He found his utility bill was higher, kept going up and down. He was doing everything he could to lower the power, he was turning things off and it just kept going up until they finally did some checking and found out. When the pacific gas and electric workers came out to check the meter they found out that the meter for the neighbor was also connected to his meter oh no so he was paying for two people's power his bill and the neighbor's bill oh no they apologized for the error, which will be corrected in the next billing cycle, so I guess we'll get money back.

Speaker 1:

But then how about the other neighbor? Why would the other neighbor not saying something like OK, I'm not getting a power bill now for two years?

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Something is going on here. If that were you and you get a power bill for two years.

Speaker 2:

I would think I ain't saying nothing.

Speaker 5:

I'm not going to say nothing to anybody?

Speaker 2:

No, I don't want it checked into.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

As long as my power stays on.

Speaker 1:

I guess they like me is what I would think. Yeah, I must have a friend down there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I've got a new promotion. They're doing Two years free power.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 1:

I would be so upset if I knew that I was paying for. If I was on the the flip side of it though, yeah, because probably think of all the things he was doing and I would want all my money back. Yeah, they're gonna make it right, but in california, like yeah, he was trying to like in the summertime he's probably not turning the air conditioning up where it needs to be because he was trying to save money and he still wasn't saving money.

Speaker 1:

No, he would turn it up to like 80, thinking okay, this is gonna save me, I'll have a good bill. Then it still comes in.

Speaker 2:

It's still high oh, I wonder how high it was, because everything's so expensive in california.

Speaker 1:

It doesn't say there's no telling what if him, the neighbor buddies, and they would talk from time to time? He said, man, I don't understand my power bill. He keeps going up and up. The other guy said said well, I don't even have one no, he.

Speaker 2:

He said oh, that's great, oh no, I'm with you there, buddy.

Speaker 1:

Oh man, me too it's tough. Times are tough, yeah, but how about USC? How about that game last week?

Speaker 5:

Do you?

Speaker 3:

watch that game.

Speaker 1:

No, I have my TV unplugged because I can't afford to plug it on.

Speaker 2:

I know, I know, yeah, one guy was living on heaven in cloud nine, the other one's living in the dirt he's.

Speaker 1:

he's got just to pay the power bill.

Speaker 2:

For two people Two years.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, 737. Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

All coming up on Sunday, the official first day of fall hey Talladega, because a big race is going on that weekend. Let's talk to the man who knows it all the Talladega Super Speedway Tri-President, brian Cratton. Brian, good morning, how are you doing today?

Speaker 3:

Very good morning. I'm doing well and getting excited for our NASCAR playoff weekend coming up soon.

Speaker 1:

Wow, two weekends away, we were talking off the air. It seemed like we had you on the air just a few days ago, but it was back in the spring.

Speaker 3:

And here we are in, the playoffs going on and Talladeadega, the fall race, is coming up just around the corner, but it's just two weeks away. Right, it sure is. Yeah, where did summer go? I can't believe it's. Uh, you know, already more than halfway through september and yeah, we're um, you know playoffs are coming up in two weeks, uh, october 4th, 5th and 6th, uh, so we're looking excited for it. The uh facilities coming together uh, looks beautiful. We're hoping for great weather during our race weekend as well.

Speaker 1:

And you've got the Friday race, saturday race and Sunday race. Plus you've got the special concert. I'm excited about this because this year you've got Walker Montgomery and Jake Owen in concert. That's Saturday night, october, the 5th right.

Speaker 3:

It is. Yeah, it's going to be what we like to call the triple header playoff weekend. We've got the nascar craftsman truck series, uh, on friday afternoon, and then the spindy series on saturday also qualifying on saturday as well. So that's a great day, uh. And then, of course, the uh, the big concert. On saturday night we have our iconic infield concert. It's free for anybody who has a infield admission or a Sunday ticket, so all you have to do is show your Sunday ticket. You're able to walk across the racetrack over in Turn 3, which is always a really cool experience and then come into our iconic infield for that Jake Owen and Walker Montgomery concert. It's going to be a big one, two great performers. We're really looking forward to it.

Speaker 1:

You're doing a great job. I'm sorry you bring some big names to the concert. You do a great job in picking these concerts, the artists and hats off. Again, I've seen Jake and Walker and their fans are in for a fantastic show on that October, the 5th night.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, they sure are. And you know, we're fortunate. We're fortunate because a lot of these artists they love Talladega, they love NASCAR and so they want to play it because it's become just such an iconic concert. So they have a lot of fun with the crowd that's there, because it's just a crowd that's been hyped up all day long and so it's a great one. So we actually have managers and talent that are actually reaching out to us to perform at Talladega. So I wish I could take all the credit, but it's that iconic Talladega name and their desire to play.

Speaker 3:

And a lot of the guys have actually been coming to Talladega for a long long time with their fathers or mothers. And one that really sticks out is Riley Green. That's obviously born and raised here in the great state of Alabama. That's one that he would come out to the races since he was a little kid with his dad. He wanted to play so bad. We were able to get him to perform twice actually at Talladega. It's a Saturday night concert. It's just an awesome thing to be a part of.

Speaker 1:

We're lucky enough, we're giving away tickets. We're gonna be giving away tickets for the weekend and one of our lucky winners will win a trip to the uh talladega garage experience presented by cool ray and uh. Myself and holly had a chance to do that just about a year ago, I guess it's been, and that is one great experience people need to be take part of, and they can be part of that too, can't they, brian?

Speaker 3:

yeah, they sure can.

Speaker 3:

And and if you don't know what talladega garage experience is, we built a 50 million dollar amusement park basically is what I like to call it, yeah around the nascar cup garages so the fans can walk into the garages from one side, the race cars come in from the other side. You're under the same roof in open air. The only thing that separates you from the race car is about a four-foot high fence. You see the drivers. You can hear the drivers talking to their crew chiefs. The drivers will come over and interact with the fans. It immerses the fan into the sport and interact with the fans. Um, it's just, it immerses the fan into the sport. Victory lane is part of it. So after the races are over, you can be right there in victory lane and you'll have some of the coca-cola or champagne or whatever they're spraying around. You know, on you it's um. We have a kid zone, we have a game zone. Um, just different social social destinations throughout. Um, one of my favorite parts is our value price concessions two dollar bottles of water, two dollar coke products, two dollar hot dogs, four dollar cheeseburgers and fry platters. It's just that. You know, we really geared it towards the families to come out and to enjoy it and to be immersed in the sport.

Speaker 3:

So, yes, you can also purchase those Talladega Garage Experience. You can find out more information by going to our website, talladegasuperspeedwaycom. You see the pictures that will bring, hopefully, my words to life. It is just, if you're coming to Talladega and you haven't done it before, you have to do it. It also provides you access to the pre-race ceremonies on Friday, saturday or Sunday, whichever day you're there.

Speaker 3:

And while you're on the website, if you don't have tickets yet, go ahead and get those tickets because, being a big fall race, tickets are going fast, right? They sure are. Yeah, we're trending higher than we did last October. We continue to grow. So, yes, tickets are going fast, right, they sure are. Yeah, we're trending higher than we did last October. We continue to grow. So, yes, tickets are going fast. You can also check out the wonderful specials we have there. Kids 12 and under are free free on Friday and Saturday for two playoff races. Wow. And then they started just $10 on Sunday as well for the big Yellowwood 500 Fast Car Cup Series. We have military specials, we have educator specials, first responder specials. So, yes, I encourage everybody to go to the website just to check out all of the great opportunities and the great pricing we have at Talladega.

Speaker 1:

Well, brian, before we let you go, holly wanted to ask you a question about uh being at the track. Do you ever get a chance, when nobody's looking to take your, your car or your truck out on the out on the uh track and just give it a few spins around the track? Is that ever allowed? Or you ever just sneak one in?

Speaker 3:

oh, good morning holly. Uh, you know, what I love to do is I love to have friends like you guys stop by the racetrack because that gives me an excuse to get away from my computer and put you guys into the car and take laps around. So yes, I do sneak out there every once in a while. If I need that extra boost of energy one day I will go out there and I'll call our operations guys and say, hey, is there anybody on the track? And if there's not, I'll go out there and take a couple laps. So I invite you guys to stop by and see me sometime at Talladega Super Speedway. We'll take a couple of hot laps around the track.

Speaker 1:

Can you tell us how fast Do you have a truck car?

Speaker 3:

What do you drive, brian? Well, we have both a Chevy Camaro, ford Mustang, and they also have a souped-up Blazer, which is kind of cool Just, and they also have a souped-up blazer which is kind of cool just because it provides more space in it. And so it depends on you know what my feeling is that day. You know we do have rules and regulations, so you know we're supposed to stick around that 100-mile-an-hour mark, but you know I'm like getting a little bit higher than that, but I can't say that on the air because then it's on record.

Speaker 3:

I know, I know, 100 miles an hour. That's it, gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker 1:

Well, brian, you do a great job. We were there about a year ago and had a fantastic time. You showed us around. We even got to go down on the track and me and Holly had a foot race, even though she cheated.

Speaker 2:

I won. No, Brian, I won.

Speaker 1:

She left before the gun went off. But regardless, we love coming down there and I encourage anybody if you've never been take the kids out and just enjoy a day, and the races are coming up in about two weeks and we appreciate all you do, brian, and bringing top-quality entertainment to this area at Talladega Super Speedway.

Speaker 3:

Well, we thank you guys for having me on and helping spread the great word about the events that we do it truly is a world-renowned facility. Do it truly is a world-renowned facility. All 50 states will have guests from all 50 states. We'll have guests from 25 to 28 different countries, and this is right here in the great state of Alabama. So it's just a you know. I encourage people to come on out. If you haven't tried NASCAR before and you're sitting on the fence, come on out, you won't be disappointed. As I mentioned earlier that Friday and Saturday Saturday is a great day to come out, especially if you have kids. Kids are free. We have discounted tickets on that day as well. So check out the website and come on out to Talladega.

Speaker 1:

Brian, thanks for taking the time out to speak to us. We'll talk to you again very soon and hope you have a great turnout in two weeks.

Speaker 3:

Well, thank you very much, Appreciate it. Looking forward to my door says it takes a lobster out of the track.

Speaker 1:

All right, thanks, brian. Have a great weekend.

Speaker 5:

Thank you, you as well All right, thank you.

Speaker 1:

That's Brian Crichton, the Talladega Super Speedway track president Seven. Oh, by the way, we'll be playing NASCAR math next hour, giving you a chance to qualify to win tickets to Talladega Barry.

Speaker 4:

And Holly On Alabama's country giant WQ.

Speaker 1:

I played that louder than usual because Rachel is dragging this morning. She's coming in with one eye closed.

Speaker 5:

Good morning. She got a little dose, not a lot of sleep last night. Huh, rachel, no no, I volunteered yesterday at the Chamber Golf Tournament. It was an all-day talking 6.30 in the morning until 7 o'clock at night event. Oh, my goodness, yes, I got home about 7. How'd it go?

Speaker 3:

It was an all-day talking 6.30 in the morning until 7 o'clock at night. Event.

Speaker 5:

Oh my goodness, yes, I got home about 7.

Speaker 2:

How'd it go.

Speaker 5:

It was great, very successful, a lot of good golfers oh yes, oh, okay.

Speaker 1:

So how much sleep did you get total? Because you got up early this morning coming to work.

Speaker 5:

I think I got about six hours of good sleep yeah.

Speaker 2:

But, still six hours. Okay, good sleep, yeah, but it's still, it's not good enough. What's average for you, holly? Um, so I go to sleep at seven to eight, yeah, and then I wake up about 3, 30. So I don't know it's hard to say because I'll lay down and I'll close my eyes and I don't know what time I go into sleep mode. I just I just close them real tight and just think, sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep. So I don't know, it could be eight hours.

Speaker 1:

You're putting too much pressure on that tiny brain of yours. Tiny yeah, hey, hey, little.

Speaker 5:

Benny Rachel Gosh Barry.

Speaker 1:

Well.

Speaker 5:

How much sleep do you get?

Speaker 1:

About three hours.

Speaker 5:

Oh that explains it.

Speaker 2:

That explains his attitude this morning. It does, yeah, it does, it's.

Speaker 1:

Friday and I've been dragging, but then I get the ball game tonight, so Fridays are always a long day, like last week. We did the Albertville game at Spartan to get home to midnight.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

So I was up from 3 am to midnight.

Speaker 2:

What about when y'all went to Florence?

Speaker 1:

It was worse. Yeah, I just went straight to the gym, because there's no need to go in to lay down, because it's already yeah. Mississippi almost got to pay for dinner and for breakfast on the way home.

Speaker 2:

Oh man, that's tough, yeah, tough hours.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but you get used to it. You've been doing this for a year. Are you used to the hours yet?

Speaker 2:

I would say I still need a nap during the day most of the time, but for the most part I would say that I'm getting used to waking up early. Yeah, yeah, it's easier to wake up. Used to like Barry would have to call me three or four times in the morning to make sure.

Speaker 5:

Get up, get up, get up.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I would go back to sleep and he would call and be like hey, are you up? Because you're not answering any of my text messages. This is I mean when I very first started.

Speaker 1:

Because you were late like the first week. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I was late, holly. I know I've been late two times in a year. Not bad. I mean to have to be here at five. That's not that bad.

Speaker 1:

You know? No, you kept wanting to push the morning show back until about 9.

Speaker 2:

No, it's not going to happen 9 to 12. Yeah, just put me on middays.

Speaker 1:

Okay, rachel's in here to do a job. No knowledge nuggets today, because we've got something more important.

Speaker 2:

Yes, we have a taste test.

Speaker 1:

You've got to thank some special friends again.

Speaker 5:

Yes, Thank you to Stacy and Brandy and the gang at Circle K in Boaz. Yes, thank you so much.

Speaker 1:

What do we have today? Chips.

Speaker 2:

Okay, we have Lay's chips. Yes, they're a flavor drop global edition. These are from Taste of Korea, korea. Yeah, these are honey butter.

Speaker 1:

Honey, butter, potato chips yeah, these are honey butter, honey butter, potato chips. Yeah, honey butter Sounds like it might be pretty good, it sounds good, they smell normal.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm going to go for it Ready, I go. Nope, nope, nope, get it out of my mouth. Mm-mm, get it out of my mouth. It's not bad.

Speaker 1:

I'm tasting the honey and the butter much butter?

Speaker 5:

Yeah, a little too much.

Speaker 1:

I'm not sure that dip would cover that up.

Speaker 5:

Holly, don't spit that out.

Speaker 2:

Don't do that.

Speaker 1:

That is a spit screen that's on your microphone but you don't mean to actually spit into it.

Speaker 2:

I can't eat these. No, no, I don't know what's worse. These are the Coke Oreos. Oh, can't eat these. No, no, I don't know what's worse. These are the Coke Oreos. Oh, don't buy these.

Speaker 5:

These give you a bad attitude. I think these are worse.

Speaker 2:

You get like a film in your mouth after them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's like coats your tongue.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it coats it.

Speaker 1:

And this is in Korea.

Speaker 2:

This is from Korea.

Speaker 1:

it says let's send them something nasty and get them back Like what? What would you send them? Poop flavored Poop burritos.

Speaker 2:

Poop flavored. Yeah, let's get them back.

Speaker 1:

Cool poop flavored.

Speaker 2:

Oh God, I would have much rather celebrated.

Speaker 1:

National Queso Day. We'll show them, we'll teach you.

Speaker 2:

I'm giving that a zero.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm not going that low.

Speaker 5:

I'm going to say a four. I'd giving that a zero. Yeah, I'm not going that low. I'm going to say a four. Whoa, I'd go with a one, because I think some people would probably like these. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Sure.

Speaker 5:

But they're not for me.

Speaker 1:

Then, if you do, you'd probably need a lobotomy, because, you actually enjoy.

Speaker 5:

these?

Speaker 2:

There's a part of your brain. That's what about my tiny brain, Barry? I know what about my tiny brain, I bet it's blown away right now. I know it is. This is over there spinning.

Speaker 1:

Like a pinball Just ding, ding, ding, ding, ding Everywhere.

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

All right, well, thanks for the chip. The free chip One's all I can handle.

Speaker 2:

The one. Yeah, who are we going to give these to Seth? Well, I don't know. Russ isn't here, so I've got he's off on.

Speaker 1:

He's giving Seth a lifeguard in the front office. We'll give him Seth. Yeah, He'll eat anything.

Speaker 2:

We'll have to wait until 9. He gets here at 9. We'll give it to him.

Speaker 1:

He'll eat anything.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, he will.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, all right. Thanks, rachel, all right.

Speaker 4:

It's 8 and 19. Wqsb.

Mornings with Barry and Holly Mornings Crime Story. Save someone's life and probably help save lives. If you haven't seen the video, there's probably the video of the day. Maybe a video of the week is on our Facebook page. Check it out. It's towards the top of the page. It deals with a. I think it's Michigan. I believe I have to go back and check. I think it's Michigan but there's. They're getting phone calls the police saying that there's a vehicle going down the road. It's like it's out of control. They're not sure what's wrong with the driver. So the police this happened to be nearby the Macomb County Sheriff's Department yeah, it is Michigan and they pull up beside the vehicle and they can see that the driver has had some kind of help, a medical emergency, like they're awake but really can't do anything. It's like they're almost like in a daze and hands are not on the wheel. The vehicle is just going from side to side.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

Luckily it's not going too fast, but fast enough to be a problem. So the vehicle pulls up next to it. So the deputy Nicole Myron in the passenger side rolls her window down and is able to get the driver to roll. I think it's a man or woman. I don't think it's a man To get him to roll the window down enough that she crawls out of the car while they're going down the road crawls into the driver's vehicle, gets in there and is able to stop the vehicle and put the vehicle in park.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes, and you can see the video. It picks it up from like some of the traffic cams and then it even shows the body cam of where she's crawling. It's like like something out of a movie, like an Indiana Jones movie or some kind of I don't know Speed right, but it's amazing because she risked her life, but she saved at least one and had the vehicle maybe veered into another lane. It could have injured or maybe killed many people.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, it sure could have, and it looked like it was on a busy highway too. Yeah, Good job. That's a hero right there.

Speaker 1:

That is a hero If you want to see a good video, check out her Facebook page. This is amazing. I wish we could include pictures in the podcast, but we can't. I know Because this picture, this little animal, has taken the internet by storm. It's a baby hippo.

Speaker 1:

When we first saw this, they were showing it on TV, on the Today Show. We thought, okay, it's like an animatronic thing they're using in Jurassic Park. It's not real, it's real.

Speaker 2:

And it is so cute. It has absolutely no teeth and it keeps its mouth wide open at all times and it just bites at things and people constantly Like the zookeeper. I guess they're zookeepers. Is it in a zoo? Yeah, it is okay. Yeah, he just bites the zookeepers over and over again it doesn't hurt him.

Speaker 1:

It's in thailand and they say it's gone from about 80 people a day visiting the zoo to over 400 to now over a thousand a day are visiting the zoo, mainly to come get a look at this baby hippo he's so cute, I would yeah, yeah I would absolutely pay to go see that hippo.

Speaker 2:

I might pay for a flight to go see that hippo it's so cute I need to squish it but it has like it.

Speaker 1:

They call it moisturized skin, uh-huh it looks like it's this come out being born, but it stays that way.

Speaker 2:

It's just they call it dewy. Yeah, it's dewy, it's so cute. Dewey, yeah, dewey.
