Can a morning show save a life? Join us as Barry and Holli bring their infectious energy to the last Friday in September, filled with the excitement of spooky season and the upcoming holidays. Holli's hilarious story about her kids' love for strawberry milk takes a surprising turn as we celebrate National Chocolate Milk Day. Plus, we're honoring our fellow morning show hosts with a special t-shirt giveaway and discussing how Millennials and Gen Zers are using smartphone technology to keep tabs on their parents — a trend that’s reshaping family dynamics.
The emotional roller-coaster of being a morning show host is a journey we rarely share, but Barry and Holli open up about the challenges of maintaining a positive front during personal hardships, like the anniversary of a loved one's passing. With the recent news of Hoda Kotb's departure from NBC's Today show to focus on her daughters and surprising updates from Yellowstone, there's plenty of tear-jerking and jaw-dropping moments in this episode. Listener support is often our lifeline, and we reflect on the unexpected healing that comes from your unwavering encouragement.
Rounding out our 100th episode, we pay a heartfelt tribute to Reid Galloway and introduce a new initiative in partnership with Power 107.5 and Not Alone to support foster children. Starting Monday, we're collecting duffel bags to provide these children with a dignified way to carry their belongings. Expect some laughs with weather-related jokes and delicious new food releases like Tabasco-flavored Bugles and Cheetos Puffs cheese pizza flavor. Tune in for an episode filled with laughter, tears, and community spirit, making this a celebration you won't want to miss!

Speaker 2I'm in love with this . Why listen to anything else ? They're the best . It's showtime .
Speaker 3Please welcome your hosts , barry and Milton Cowles . Do not go in there . Woo , release the target . We go , we go . And Holly , oh my God , she's amazing . You are in for a very serious treat . This sounds like fun for the whole family .
Speaker 2We are oil and water or oil and TNT and C4 and a detonator and a butane torch or oil and TNT and C4 and a detonator and a butane torch .
Speaker 1Good morning at 609 . Wow , butane torch . Yeah , well it's going to be a tough morning . Then it sounds like yeah , you know Things you need to know today , last day of the week , the last Friday of the month , friday , september 27th . What is going on today ?
Speaker 2Isn't that crazy . Next time we do this , it's going to be the day before October . Yeah , that's wild .
Speaker 1Another month almost in the books that means we'll be less than three months away from Christmas .
Speaker 2It means it's officially spooky season .
Speaker 1Yeah , three months away from Christmas ? Yeah , I know .
Speaker 2I know , and then just six weeks , we're going to be electing a new president . How ? This week we're going to be electing a new president . How about that ? That's true , there's a lot of stuff going on .
Speaker 1So what's going ?
Speaker 2on today . Today is National Chocolate Milk Day . Yes , love chocolate milk , love chocolate milk . Its popularity continues to increase and now is the most popular beverage in the world .
Speaker 1I believe it .
Speaker 2Yep . 46% of US adults still drink chocolate milk every day and Americans spend $ spend 11 billion with a b dollars on chocolate milk every year I spent about that much with my daughter reagan , when she's little she every night I had to have chocolate milk .
Speaker 1I love it . Chocolate milk , 11 million she had every night before she went to bed and I thought , yeah , your teeth are probably going to fall out when you're about seven or eight or nine . Yeah , well , that turned out well . It makes me happy at the time made her go to bed and go to sleep . What about your kids ? They , they love chocolate milk .
Speaker 2No , they actually love strawberry milk . Oh yeah , I nursed both of my babies and , for whatever reason , strawberry milk is closer to the taste of nursing milk .
Speaker 1I don't know that's a brand new thing , isn't ?
Speaker 2that weird ? I don't know .
Speaker 1No idea , I do .
Speaker 2But I also have to mention this because Russ came in and told us this Today's also . National Morning Show Host Day Woo . National Morning Show Host Day .
Speaker 1So we have a day .
Speaker 2Yeah , we have a day .
Speaker 1I did not know that .
Speaker 2I didn't know we had a day either . I can't believe we're being honored .
Speaker 1Yes , well , thank you .
Speaker 2So I put up a Facebook post of I'm going to give away a t-shirt , of course , and all you have to do is comment your favorite part of the last year of the morning show that would be nice . Yeah , I cannot wait to read these memories .
Speaker 1So we'll read some of these on the air and then we'll have a winner later in the day .
Speaker 2Monday we're going to give it until Monday .
Speaker 1Okay , we can do that .
Speaker 2Yep , here's something you need to know . Millennials and Gen Zers are beginning to track their own parents .
Speaker 1So it's not the other way around .
Speaker 2It's not the only way around . No Many of them track their phone using the Find my People services on their phone , so I do this with my mom .
Speaker 1Yeah .
Speaker 2I track her location . Okay , yeah , I do .
Speaker 1Okay , good .
Speaker 2I keep that , which I share my location with her too , so she knows where I'm at at all times , like I think somebody , just one person , needs to know where you're at , not necessarily what you're doing , but if you've got somebody you can trust like a best friend , like my . My person is my mother . I let her see where I'm at at all times nobody knows where I am .
Speaker 1Yeah well , I don't even know . Half the time I have no clue .
Speaker 2I can't hide from my mama .
Speaker 1No , where am I ? Love , no idea , no idea . So why do you think younger kids are tracking their parents now ? Why do you think the younger ones are ? For what reason ?
Speaker 2We need to Barry . We have to why ?
Speaker 1Because we have to Maybe it's none of their business , because we have the technology . Sure .
Speaker 2And the ability and we worry about our parents . Yeah , and I need to know where my mama's at at all times .
Speaker 1Mama , where are you ? I think part of it is the kids are somewhere they're not supposed to be . They want to see if mama and dada's getting close to finding them .
Speaker 2We're not supposed to be here .
Speaker 1No , oh no , your mom is just around the corner .
Speaker 2No , okay , and then all right , here's something to think about . People can be so rude .
Speaker 1That's true .
Speaker 2They are so rude . I went to Walgreens yesterday , yeah , and a lady would not quit staring at me .
Speaker 1Staring at you .
Speaker 2Yes , she just kept staring at me . I mean , it's like she's never seen anybody use a deodorant and then put it back on the shelf . So rude . Yeah , give me my privacy . What was she thinking ? I don't know that is rude .
Speaker 1How dare her ? Yeah , 616 . Mornings with .
Speaker 3Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB .
Speaker 1Talking to more some great comments too . You put up a post .
Speaker 2Today is Alabama's country giant WQSB Some great comments too .
Speaker 1Today is National Morning Show host day .
Speaker 2Yeah , it is .
Speaker 1I didn't realize we had a day .
Speaker 2I didn't know . We had a day .
Speaker 1I'm guessing we'll be getting a bonus or a special check sometime today . No Head's up , Rachel . No .
Speaker 2Maybe somebody will bring me a cold coffee and bring you a Dr Pepper .
Speaker 1You wouldn't take that . I'd rather have cash you wouldn't take that , yeah , but I'd rather have it like a cash .
Speaker 2Maybe somebody will bring us some donuts .
Speaker 1Or Woolwyn Publishers Clearinghouse , something like that .
Speaker 2See , I would so much rather go for iced coffee .
Speaker 1Well , we'll take pretty much anything . We would take a Snickers , but just be careful driving , because there's a lot of water standing on the roads . Do be careful . Since you've been gone , that is the lead story the hurricane Helene has come ashore , boy , it's one of the turned out to be one of the biggest storms as far as size . Okay , they were saying like the Gulf of Mexico is like I think I read this right a thousand miles wide . Okay , and this hurricane at one point was 500 miles wide . Oh my God , it was covering up half of the Gulf as it moved ashore last night .
Speaker 2Oh my gosh . So they had up to 140 mile per hour winds and it's the first known Category 4 storm to hit Florida's Big Bend since 1851 . Made landfall about 10 pm near Perry , florida , like you said . Three deaths and one fatality in Florida , two in Georgia . The catastrophic and deadly storm surge has been reported along all the Big Bend coasts where it can reach as high as 20 feet above ground level , it's hard to even imagine how much water that is . I know .
Speaker 1And it's coming ashore . It's not like it's right on the edge of the beach , it's coming into towns . Yeah , it's crazy . Just keep these people in your prayers . This is like the third major storm this Big Bend area has had in a little over a year .
Speaker 2Yeah Oof , yeah , a little over a year . Yeah Oof , yeah . Well , scientists at Brigham and Williams Women's Hospital have developed a nasal spray that could protect us from COVID-19 , the flu and even the common cold .
Speaker 1That would be awesome . I've always heard that touching your nose with your hands is the main way to spread a cold . Really , yeah , it comes from your nose and your fingers .
Speaker 2Ew , yeah , that's kind of gross . The cold really , yeah , it comes from your nose and your fingers .
Speaker 1Oh yeah , that's kind of gross the spray is it's p-c-a-n-s , so like pecans they couldn't spell pecans , so they just silent e why do they name it that ?
Speaker 2that's weird pecans . Okay , anyway , it works like capturing pathogens as they enter the nose and stop them from being transported throughout the body . Pecans , I guess , has yet to be tested on humans , but mice have been promising . Okay , I don't feel comfortable with that .
Speaker 1Whose job was that to grab the little tiny mice and find their little tiny nose honed ? That had to be tough .
Speaker 2It'd be the tiniest little squirts like .
Speaker 1And you know , they kept getting it in their eye Like oh , come on man , oh yeah .
Speaker 2Yeah , have you ever given nose spray to a kid ?
Speaker 1Yes , oh , and tried to clean their nose out with those little syringe things .
Speaker 2Those are horrible Now see , we were talking about this and I think this is really interesting . When my girls were little , we had what was called a nose Frida , and they still have these . They're still popular and what it is is . It's this suction with a tube attached to a mouthpiece with a filter in between , and you literally suck the snot out of their nose .
Speaker 1That is weird .
Speaker 2It is weird , but it worked so good .
Speaker 1It's like stopping the gas out of a car . You're bound to get a mouthful every now and then .
Speaker 2No , you didn't really you really didn't .
Speaker 1I did one time .
Speaker 2I got one , I got a mouthful one time , but it's because I forgot to put the filter back in . Oh , it's nasty . Yeah , I know but when it's your own kids , it's just somehow not as bad , I guess costco denies supply we gotta have a fun story to end it with costco denies supplying sean diddy combs with the thousand bottles of baby oil allegedly found in his home After his lawyer suggested that's where Diddy got them from . A rep says that none of the company's US locations even carry baby oil .
Speaker 1So he had over a thousand bottles of baby oil in his house when they busted him .
Speaker 2Do you hear about that ?
Speaker 1Yes , oh yeah , a thousand bottles , a thousand , a thousand bottles , a thousand A thousand bottles , and Costco had nothing to do with it .
Speaker 2They want you to know .
Speaker 1I think I've had one in my house for my entire lifetime . He had a thousand .
Speaker 2Yeah , I have two bottles , and one's lavender and one's regular . Yeah , I have two little girls sure and I have had these bottles since they were probably . Harlow was probably two years old .
Speaker 1She's nine now exactly so , but for to have a thousand , yeah , a thousand . He was using a lot of baby oil that whole house would be a slip inside maybe that's what he was shooting for I guess so I don't know you walk in there . You're gonna be greasy when you leave . Yep , you're gonna be oiled up , you're gonna going to be moisturized , though I imagine the police could even arrest him . He just slipped right through their fingers . It's 634 .
Speaker 3Mary and Holly On Alabama's Country , Giant .
Speaker 1WQSB , you put up a post .
Speaker 2I put up a post and I said I'm going to give somebody a T-shirt .
Speaker 1And then I'm sorry , I'm looking at the picture Carson just put together .
Speaker 2Yeah , you've got to go see that one . That one's the best one .
Speaker 1There's a picture of us you called yourself a beach pimp . Yeah , he put me a beach hat on and was in sunglasses . It was like a beach pimp . And there's you . That's funny .
Speaker 2I know I've got my sunglasses on too months or the past year , whatever you got . Yeah , just whatever was your favorite .
Speaker 1So read some of those off .
Speaker 2AK Dutton says the story of Waddles always gets me , and also Barry coming to work and showing up on our one-year anniversary . He's a great host , I agree . I appreciate that . Courtney Bridges says quotes of the day and also always talking about helping people . We do love to help people ?
Speaker 1Yes , we do . That's why we're here .
Speaker 2Connie says I love the morning show with you guys . Y'all are awesome . Annie Finley says remembering Barry's son touched my heart and that one is a big , predominantly used answer on this was our tribute to Ruth and . I think it's really important that we share something
Morning Show Hosts and Listener Appreciation
Speaker 2about that .
Speaker 1Okay , you didn't want to come into work that day , no because the last two this was the third year anniversary of the day it died it happened on august 30th and the last two years .
Speaker 2I just didn't think I could come in and pull off being cheerful and happy because of all the memories I had yeah , that's what's really hard about being a morning show host is that , no matter what's going on in your life , you have to come in and show up for the listeners yeah in a positive way , because nobody wants to hear you sad you turn on the radio to hear somebody , to get your day off to a good start .
Speaker 1Play some good music , give you what's going on in the news and be cheerful the last thing you want to hear . Yeah , occasionally we do get emotional , like we spoke about depression a few days ago and I think sometimes we need to address things like that , because it's something that affects everybody .
Speaker 2But I think what our listeners need to know is that you coming in and working that day has given you a completely different perspective on Reed's passing .
Speaker 1It is . I told you that it now gives me some form of healing that I have not had in three years yeah and now I can walk in the house and walk through certain things and it's not as emotional as it used to be yeah , and I think a big part of that was our listeners and being able to honor reed and share his story .
Speaker 2So it's national morning show host .
Speaker 1Let me tell you one more thing and I think a lot of the healing comes from the listeners because , like you just said , the comments that you posted the morning of you may think well , he didn't see any of them . I read every single one of them .
Speaker 2Every one of them , yes .
Speaker 1I didn't reply because there were thousands of them .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1But everyone the comments helped and whether you just liked it or loved it or made a comment , yes , I read every one of them and saw every one of them and I appreciate that .
Speaker 2Yes , yes , and that was a life-changing day for you , and we just want to thank the listeners for showing up and listening to us . You know , as National Morning Show hosts say , we wouldn't have this day , we wouldn't have this job if it wasn't for our listeners , and I'm just so thankful for our audience because they are so kind and welcoming and loving and ever since I came in they just welcomed me with open arms and have made my bad days good , and I don't know if I could ever communicate the impact that they have in my life day to day , looking for reliable insurance that cares about you . Speaker 2It's Amber McAbee .
Speaker 1I'm sorry , not Karen . Oh , I know who Karen is , it's Amber . I'm sorry , we got a piece of another listener , coach McAbee's wife .
Speaker 2Coach McAbee's wife , yeah that's Karen .
Speaker 1I'm sorry .
Speaker 2It's Amber McAbee . She said y'all have made me laugh so much , so good .
Speaker 1Amber , we love you . She said , if you'd come in here and spoke to me , I would have remembered your name . I'm sorry , I apologize .
Speaker 2Well , I got some sad news . Oh no , it's not too bad , but Hoda Kotb , the longtime co-anchor of NBC's Today show , is leaving the show . She's leaving the show to spend time with her young daughters . Cobby stepped into the co-anchor role after Matt Lauer's exit in 2017 .
Speaker 1It's been that long yeah , seven years .
Speaker 2Yeah , I know , and she was so great she did a co-hosting job with Savannah Guthrie . I like her . I do too .
Speaker 1Now she's on there . Is she gone now or is she going to finish up the week , I would hope . Maybe give them a chance to say farewell .
Speaker 2I think she's Surely she will . It says at the start of next year .
Speaker 1So I think she's going to finish up the year . She's good , I like her .
Speaker 2She's sweet . And CBS will air the season five part two premiere of Yellowstone on November 10th at 9 pm , following the Paramount Network's airing earlier that night .
Speaker 1Oh , so if you don't have Paramount , you can wait up until 9 and then you can see it after it airs on Paramount , and I read there's controversy on the set .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's been reported that a sixth season of Yellowstone could still be in the works Even after Costner's departure . But while a season six is still possible , it might be a bit hard to work with behind the scene troubles , because they're caught in a rock in a hard place . They want to stay in taylor sheridan's good graces . But some of them really do miss kevin and feel like it's a huge mistake not figuring out a compromise but they're afraid to say anything because taylor sheridan may say be quiet .
Speaker 1Yeah , do your job and or you're gone or you're gone .
Speaker 2Yeah , do you think lanie wilson will be back ?
Speaker 1uh , she said she is . She said she can't confirm it or deny it , but she says I will be busy for about a week . Oh , and that part of the world , oh , which tells me she is but she just can't say it .
Speaker 2Good well , cnncom will introduce a paywall in early october . What does that ?
Speaker 1mean you have to pay to go online and read their stories .
Speaker 2What .
Speaker 1Much like some of the newspapers do . If you've noticed , like even ALcom does , they'll give you so many free looks at their page and then , sorry , you've gone past your limit . Now you must pay to read our stories .
Speaker 2So CNN is doing this .
Speaker 1Yeah , CNN , I hate to tell you , but I'm not going to read your stories or what you I mean . Quit charging for stuff like that . We can turn it on and watch it on TV free Well , not free , but I'm not going to pay to go online and read a story .
Speaker 2Yeah , they're just doing it , so you have to pay to read a certain number of articles .
Speaker 1Not going to do it .
Speaker 2No , not doing it .
Speaker 1That's not good .
Speaker 3All right , 6.56 , birthdays are next Mornings , with Barry and Hall here on Alabama's country giant WQSB .
Speaker 1Today is National Morning Show host day . Yeah , hey , real quick . Before we do that , I want to congratulate our two Talladega winners .
Speaker 2before I forget , yeah , because they're already on Facebook . Yes , we've already been asking .
Speaker 1So NASCAR math if you played NASCAR math , your name's in the drawing and our two winners are Tyler Boyd of Dawson and Mike Charles of Crossville . Woo , yes , you both qualified and you both win tickets to the October Talladega races . And Tyler Boyd is also the grand prize winner . He wins tickets to the Talladega Garage Experience .
Speaker 2Have we called them yet ?
Speaker 1Not yet . So , tyler and Mike , feel free to call us or we'll contact you . The tickets are here . We'll get in touch with you and tell you how to get those tickets . So congratulations to Tyler Boyd and Mike Charles , our latest winners .
Speaker 2Yay .
Speaker 1And thank you so much for your comments on our Facebook page . So read some more of these comments . We're going to give some shout-outs this morning Anybody who's commenting Basically what's been your favorite part of the morning show of this year .
Speaker 2Yeah , so Christy Dean said honoring Barry's son , it was a great show . It was a good show .
Speaker 1It was a special show .
Speaker 2Misty Mason says y'all are the best .
Speaker 1Love listening to y'all every morning and my seven-year-old one morning because you guys weren't on yet , said where is that man and woman we listen to ? That's fine . If you want to call us that man and that woman , it's fine , I like it .
Speaker 2It's fine Tracy Melcher says good morning or happy morning show day . Not a single day goes by that I don't drop to work with a silly joke or grin on my face from listening to you two . It's the perfect way to start a work day .
Speaker 1Well , good news for you , because Holly has new jokes coming up in about less than 10 minutes .
Speaker 2Yeah , I do , yeah , I'm really excited and they're weather jokes .
Speaker 1Yeah , that'd be a good time .
Speaker 2Yeah , can we read more ?
Speaker 1Yeah , go ahead .
Speaker 2Tim Murphy says we're great down to earth people that they can all relate to . Thank you , Thank you Appreciate that . Jackie Smalley says love listening to y'all . Y'all brought my day
Funny Weather Jokes and Food News
Speaker 2. Brenda Berry says the tribute to Berry's son , reed , was my favorite . We do love that one that was a good episode and if you want to hear reed's tribute , which is we're having it timed out to be .
Speaker 1The 100th episode was also the same day , yeah it's our big anniversary episode too . Yeah , it was a special day . Yeah , it was it was . We'll have some more that was coming up in a few minutes , uh , but first the morning's quote of the day . This one is short and sweet and a lot of people are mentioning in there what things they like . They love the quotes , yeah . So you do a good job in picking these out . And this one is just short and sweet .
Speaker 2Yeah , I like this one . It says let frustration fuel inspiration .
Speaker 1So what do you think that means ?
Speaker 2I like that . I think that we all deal with frustrating situations , but instead of it , letting it get us down , we've got to use it to fuel inspiration , to do better , to be better , to make the situation better .
Speaker 1Yeah , like I've always been told , if you make a mistake , try your best to learn from it and try to fix it and do better next time . Yeah , like football coming up tonight , if you've maybe made a bad play or two in practice , learn from it and try to fix it , do better . Don't let it frustrate you to the point that you're ready to quit or not do it again .
Speaker 2Let me touch on something real quick . Coach Brown did an interview with you guys this past Tuesday .
Speaker 1Aberville's head football coach . I really admire Coach Brown . He's a great guy .
Speaker 2He said something that stuck with me . He said , yeah , we're 0-15 , but we've got something that these winning schools do not have we have a learning experience here . And he said I know how it looks . He's like trust me , I know how it feels , but we're 0-15 . We know how to fight . We're going to fight out of this . So they can , you know , even in football , let that frustration fuel inspiration to try and win those games .
Speaker 1That's a good point . Yeah , and you can listen to the Albertville Grissom game coming up tonight on Power 107.5 . And that's coming up later on tonight .
Speaker 3All right , 7 to 16 . Mary and Holly on Alabama's Country Giant WQSB it's my cherry pie sweet cherry pie .
Speaker 1A lot of food stories you like Bugles . I do I love Bugles I like to put them on my fingers . Ah yes , kind of like Edward Scissorhands Uh-huh , Edward Buglehands , Uh-huh . I think this is going to be a hit . Bugles has now teamed up with Tabasco and they now have the Tabasco-flavored Bugles .
Speaker 2Oh , those will be good .
Speaker 1Yep , but they're only available at 7-Eleven to begin with , but they're going to give them a chance to sell them for a while and , coming up in December , you'll be able to get them everywhere . Oh , and then there's Cheetos .
Speaker 2There's a new Cheetos flavor the Cheetos Puffs . Do you like the Puffs or the regular crunchy Cheetos ? I like both , but I get in a mood for them . So , like sometimes , I'm in the mood for . Puffy , sometimes I'm in the mood for crunchy Okay now your girls love cheese pizzas . Yes .
Speaker 1Do they like Cheetos ? Yes , they now have Cheetos Puffs cheese pizza flavor . Oh , I have to try that .
Speaker 2Yep coming , We'll have to try that .
Speaker 1Coming soon , Should be in the US any day now . You can read more about these on our Facebook page and I can see you doing this with the girls . Instead of a like for Christmas , a gingerbread house , how about ? A haunted house .
Speaker 2Yeah , aldi is releasing a haunted house cookie kit for Halloween . Shoppers can snag a chocolate haunted house cookie kit and the kit is only $10 . It has everything you need to create an edible house for Halloween , including the cookie house , plus a small little cookie man and a little cookie pumpkin to make the house a haunted home . Icing and candies to decorate your what . What does that word ?
Speaker 1Dumbass aisle what does that mean ? It's like a house , I guess . Oh , okay .
Speaker 2But because all items are pre-made , you only have to assemble them . So yes , I do like that .
Speaker 1That is a great idea .
Speaker 2Yeah , that is so check your Aldi .
Speaker 1I love this . So if the kids like , doing the one for Christmas , they would love this one . Oh yeah , all right joke time .
Speaker 2She hasn't even told him , yet that was not bad .
Speaker 1Okay , so we thought , since yesterday your jokes went over great . Yeah , I think you got a call from the Tonight Show .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And we had to turn them down , not enough money . I didn't , but people love the jokes . Looking at some of the things their favorite parts of the show , we thought it would be good to throw in some weekend weather-related jokes .
Speaker 2Yes , and we're not making fun of the weather .
Speaker 1No no .
Speaker 2We are just laughing at jokes to do with weather .
Speaker 1Yeah , and we're glad that the weather was not as bad as it could have been here , had the hurricane changed direction just a few miles . It could have been nasty , which it is nasty this morning , rain-wise , but it could have been worse . Okay , are you ready ? First weather joke of the day what do you got ?
Speaker 2Okay , first one how do weather reporters greet each other ? How do weather reporters greet each other ? I have no idea With heat waves .
Speaker 1Okay , so these are slash dad jokes , weather jokes , then right , I'm a mom , okay , well , mom joke , okay , joke number two .
Speaker 2If you have flooding problems at home , guess what ?
Speaker 1What .
Speaker 2I know a guy Noah Noah . I know a guy Noah from the Bible .
Speaker 1Okay , good , you know , because of flooding . That's good , you get it . You can use that one in church , you get it . Yeah , yeah , okay , third one's always the best . I hope right .
Speaker 2Okay , yeah , yeah , yeah , yeah . Did you hear ? The Weather Channel hired a rapper to do their weather ?
Speaker 1Okay , the Weather Channel hired a rapper to do the weather .
Speaker 2Yeah , like rain , little Wayne , you get it . Those are good .
Speaker 1Like rain .
Speaker 3Yeah , it's 726 . Wqsb Mornings with Barry and .
Speaker 2Holly .
Speaker 1Come on , man , mornings . Come on , man . What would you do if you're going to the grocery store and you grab like a bag of lettuce and have your salad , or maybe one of those pre-made salads ? You get home and you're about to open it up and you look and there's not only a frog , or a toad , as they're calling it here , inside the bag , but it's alive and it's still . I guess the good news is , or bad news is , there's a toad in your salad . The good news is , at least the salad's got to be pretty fresh , I would think .
Speaker 2You would think how does a frog get in there ?
Speaker 1Oh no , it's in England . And , by the way , a reptile rescue group came and took the toad and they took it to their rescue headquarters and they said the toad is now doing great .
Speaker 2Oh good .
Speaker 1I was not concerned about the toad . I'm sorry . I'm not really concerned about toads . I'm more concerned about did somebody take a bite of the salad before they noticed there was a frog in it ?
Speaker 2Oh , you know , they did .
Speaker 1I would hope so .
Speaker 2You know they did . I don't know what if you didn't . I don't know . Frogs are weird . I was at my parents' house this past weekend and they had a frog on their back porch door . I was just looking at it . They're just slimy . I stood there staring at it for a good 10 minutes . If somebody walked up on me they probably would have thought I would have been a total weirdo .
Speaker 1You must have have some mushrooms or something , yeah yeah , yeah , but they really are so weird , like they're slimy , yes , and they fold up .
Speaker 2Oh , and they're . I can't stand them and like what if you didn't like ? What if you didn't notice it and you just stabbed it with your fork ?
Speaker 1oh , and you're talking to somebody not looking and it's almost at the knee hair , something gonna rip it to rip it . No , there it is with a ranch on its head . It's probably mad because it's got ranch on its head , yep , and it's going to try to jump in your mouth .
Speaker 2Have you ever been frogging ?
Speaker 1No , I don't want to do anything at all with the frog , you don't ?
Speaker 2want to catch a frog .
Speaker 1No , I hate frogs .
Speaker 2You got to go out to a you been no . But you gotta go out to a pond and wait for the frogs to start chirping or whatever they do , I don't know that starts ribbing and then you go find them , you go get them .
Speaker 1No , I don't want to . People eat frog legs .
Speaker 2What if your life depended on it ?
Speaker 1Sorry , I just Call the family . I'm done . I don't like frogs , I told you . It always goes back when I ran over the one with the lawnmower when I was a kid , I forgot , yeah , that big old bull frog , big bull frog , it was as big as a small dog . I thought it was a dog for a minute . Oh no , maybe he's going to hate me . Nope , just a frog . You ran over a frog of your lawnmower and like bury you , like they're playing chicken with you .
Speaker 2Rabbits do that .
Speaker 1Well , they would be car , oh , yeah , yeah , yeah . And possums and armadillos , and deer Armadillos may be one of the dumbest animals in the world . You and die , they do .
Speaker 2It's another one yeah , cockroaches and armadillos , they flip over .
Speaker 1And they die , they must be cousins .
Speaker 2They might be .
Speaker 1Like a cockdillo If you had a combination of the two , or maybe not .
Speaker 2I don't think so or a armaroach .
Speaker 1Yeah , maybe we're going that direction .
Speaker 2That one's better , more friendly 742 .
Speaker 3Mornings with Barry and Holly on Alabama's country giant WQSB .
Speaker 2Yeah , these are so much fun . Judy Dobbs said Barry talking about his smoke alarm . It was so funny . I've had the same experience .
Speaker 1That was this week . That was this week .
Speaker 2Yeah , beth Garman says Barry getting a WQSB spray tan . That was fun , that was funny , that was good , that was so funny . Patsy Franklin says I love the beginning of each morning show . She loves the good morning songs and the funny things Barry puts behind them .
Speaker 1Those were fun , those were fun .
Speaker 2Yes , Kylie Criswell says I love listening on my way to work . I always find a way to find out what we need to know or what national day it was . Love listening to Holly about her coffee drinks .
Speaker 1I always have two or three drinks over here . You had two this morning .
Speaker 2Yeah , I do . Leah Nelson said the Waddles tribute and the tribute to Reed . My son loves listening and he sleeps in his WQSB t-shirt . Yeah .
Speaker 1That is awesome Cute .
Speaker 2So Rachel has a favorite moment that she was going to share with us . Well , I was going to share one . I've had several , but my favorite was the day that revived skincare clinic came in and barry got a facial , yeah that was hysterical , that was a good one , yeah yeah , that was fun .
Speaker 1Took almost 10 minutes off my looks I'm gonna say a year , but no , no , but that was fun , that was interesting yeah , that was fun , I think , because I'm with Beth .
Speaker 2The spray tan was one of my favorite parts Because everywhere we went , me and Barry went everywhere together that week , we were just buddied up and everywhere we went they said turn around , let me see the tattoo . And they loved it . They loved it Everywhere we went . It was hilarious .
Speaker 1I think it fell about the time that a Will Mosley was in .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Got a cotton field .
Speaker 2Yeah , a cotton field . Yeah , that was fun , so that was good .
Speaker 1Yeah , but thank you for all the comments . We appreciate these and you can share these with us . We'll read some more coming up in a few minutes , but it looks like the Waddles segment was one of the most popular things of the year . And it really was because that one just kind of fell in their lap and we hated we couldn't save Waddles the goose in case you're wondering what Waddles is , I know but they can go back and listen to some of the podcasts and listen to some of the things we did for them .
Speaker 2Yeah , and thank you to Miss Judy at Sneeze Farmhouse for helping us with that
Not Alone
Speaker 2. But I want to tell you'all we don't only just take these comments and just store them away in our minds . We have something that's called the Abby Awards that we enter each year , and last year we won Best Morning Show . So we take this feedback and we love to hear what you love . If you're wondering why we ask what you love so much , it's because we are going to create a . What is it called , barry , when you put stuff together ? A collage ?
Speaker 1Yep , it is stuff together a collage . Yep , it is like a collage of things , like some of the best moments yeah and , uh , we will take some of these comments and we'll use these yeah , we use these like a thank you , virginia , virginia's side , this one means a lot . It says honoring barry's son , says I sit and cry to touch my heart so much so we appreciate that was a . That was one of the hardest shows I've ever done yeah , probably ever it was one of the best shows .
Speaker 2It was one of the best shows and I was telling the audience earlier and with barry rachel , that he had so much closure and peace after that show was over and he almost didn't even come to work that day , yeah , but it developed a whole sense of , uh , closure for him in that chapter . So reed will never be forgotten and he will never be , um , not talked about . We will always honor reed , but it was good to have a day committed to him to honor him I'll tell you how it happened .
Speaker 1Was I didn't told you like a week earlier I was not going to work that day ? Yeah I said it's the third anniversary . The last two years I could not work . And then so you , mike , had already agreed to work for me . It was already said and everything's done . About two weeks before that , I woke up one morning and this is like something told me that , hey , you need to change that . You need to go to work yeah and I told you .
Speaker 1I said I honestly believe that god spoke to me and said you need there's somebody out there that needs to hear something you got to say yeah , and I think they did .
Speaker 2I think that the feedback that we're getting and we're seeing that it was a god thing it was meant to be . It was supposed to happen that way and it was just so weird because it fell on our first anniversary . It fell on our hundredth podcast episode . Yeah , and it fell on our first anniversary . It fell on our 100th podcast episode and it fell on the day that Reed passed and so there were so many things going on . But I love that people were touched by that because it moved us .
Speaker 2I mean it still impacts us and our show . We will always honor Reed .
Speaker 1Thank you for the comments . If you want to go back and listen to that show , it's the number 100 episode . You can find these where you find all of our podcasts . Today's show will be on there , coming up in about 930 or so . Yep , all right . Thank you , rachel . All right , it's 801 .
Speaker 3Barry and Holly on Alabama's Country , Giant WQSB .
Speaker 1Starting Monday we and holly on alabama's country giant wqsb news . Starting uh monday , we've got something brand new . We're helping up with uh power 1075 is uh teaming up with . Not alone now , what not alone is uh , they're helping support and help foster children in our listening area yes and , trust me , there's more than you would think , and that's why they're helping out .
Speaker 1Now let's explain what not alone is doing , like , say , um , they pick up a child and they bring them to you know , a safe place yeah and sometimes the kids are kind of just taken from their home in the middle of the night with nothing more than maybe their clothes they have on in a trash bag . Yeah , so what this , not alone is trying to do is provide these kids uh all ages of things they need .
Speaker 2Yeah , we're providing things for emergency services for the foster kids in our area , and every child deserves a safe and loving home , but for those in foster care it's not always a reality . So we are trying to alleviate as much as possible and help as much as possible not alone , because we can make a difference together and help as much as possible with , not alone , because we can make a difference together . During the month of October , power 107.5 and WQSB and KXX will be collecting different items each week . So the first week , starting Monday , will be duffel bags . Any and all are welcome , as long as they're new , because these will be going to the foster kids and they need these duffel bags because when they go into the not-alone resources they're able to pick up some food , some hygiene items , shoes , diapers if they need , and then they have a bag that they can carry all of their stuff in into their temporary home without it being a trash bag .
Speaker 1Yeah , you're right , because sometimes they walk into like in the middle of the night with , like a Walmart plastic bag or a trash bag , and you know that's just tough .
Speaker 2With a duffel bag at least it's like more of when , that's all you've got , when you have like 30 minutes to grab everything you own from your home . You don't want it in a trash bag , no , no , those kids deserve more than that .
Speaker 1So not alone . They're teaming up with a lot of the area churches and they're collecting items so they can have these items ready to go when kids come in , they can go in there and pick out the items that they need . So we're going to each week , starting Monday , we're going to start picking an item each week and ask for you to please consider picking up one and bringing it to the radio station and donating it .
Speaker 2Yep , so what you'll do ? This is a lot of information , so if you're confused , what you'll do is , starting Monday through Friday next week , find you a few duffel bags , bring them to the WQSB stations and we will get them to the foster family .
Speaker 1And some of these are very cheap . Different prices , yeah , different prices . They're not expensive , they're really not . So just think about it Maybe this weekend , if you're going to be out shopping , pick up one or two and then bring them by the station during business hours , and then we're going to give these to the folks who are not alone and they'll have them ready to go .
Speaker 2Yep , that's right .
Speaker 1Then an item will change each week , so keep listening for more details on which item that you can help us out with . Yes , We'll have them on our Facebook or you can call the front office at 256-878-8575 .
Speaker 3WQSB mornings with Barry and Holly .
Speaker 1WQSB's country music news . Well , the American Music Awards are going to have a 50th anniversary special . Now the show's going to feature music from some country stars . Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will be on there , plus Chaka Khan , gladys Knight , green Day , jennifer Hudson I forgot Kane Brown will also be on there , plus Chaka Khan , gladys Knight , green Day , jennifer Hudson I forgot Kane Brown will also be on there Mariah Carey and more . The special is going to be Sunday , october 6th , 7 o'clock on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ . And last night you had the big People's Choice Country Awards . Now I like this award show because it's voted on by the people . It doesn't get into the politics of these record companies who encourage their members and their employees to vote for certain people . This is straight from the people . So , looking at the winners , what do you think ?
Speaker 2you think they got it right I think they got it right , so morgan wallen won the people's artist of 2024 good choice , yeah , huge year he did . He had a big year . The male artist of 2024 was luke combs . The artist was Lainey Wilson Good one . The best grouper duo was Dan and Shay . The best new artist was Shaboozy .
Speaker 1How could you argue ? Because it's been number one on Billboard for like what ? 11 , 12 straight weeks ?
Speaker 2Forever . And then the song of the year I totally agree with this one was I had Some Help with Post Malone and Morgan Wallen .
Speaker 1I agree , and one more piece of news Coming up tomorrow night . You've got Saturday Night Live kicking off episode one of their 50th anniversary 50th year yes . And guess who the musical guest is .
Speaker 2Jelly Roll .
Speaker 1It's this guy , jelly Roll . He'll be on there tomorrow night . Here's Jelly Roll now on WQSV Morning's Crime Story . This is a tough one . I'd like to know more details about this because you hate to see this , but a mom and her children were escorted out of Disneyland in California after trying to pass the kids off as toddlers so they could get in for free . Uh-oh yeah .
Speaker 1The TikTok footage shows the unidentified mom leaving in handcuffs from Disneyland as her two young girls hold on to her , screaming oh no , she's being accused of trying to pass the kids off as two-year-olds for free entry , and they're obviously much older . The official said the woman has been suspected of trying to sneak her kids into the park in the past . She tried it again . Didn't work . So the part about her being handcuffed and escorted out . You say , oh , that's horrible , but then again we weren't there . We don't know what she was doing or saying in the meantime to the security . We don't know the details , but I wish there was a better way of getting her out of there than handcuffs . Well , there are two kids right there .
Speaker 2I would need to know more . I would too , Because I have mixed opinions on this . There have been times that I've been so broke when they're like , hey , if your kid is five and under , they get to eat free or be free , and I'm like , could I do that ? I haven't , I really haven't . But true . But it's tempting to me because single mom , yeah , but to put her in handcuffs is a little extreme with two little girls . With her , I agree , and holding on to her , we don't know the details .
Speaker 1Because they could have been trying to politely escort her out .
Speaker 2Then she Pitch to fit .
Speaker 1Pitch to fit we don't know , but you just hate that that happened . That's all over the news now , showing her with the two kids screaming .
Speaker 2I didn't even see the video , yeah .
Speaker 1I would too .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1I'll look it up , but I hate to hear that . All right , it's 829 .
