Speaker 4:

Mondays. Tell me why.

Speaker 3:

No, you don't understand how radio works Monday, monday so good to me Doesn't really seem like work, does it? It sure is Monday hitting it now, Except for Monday. Let's get to work. Please welcome your hosts. Just another manic Monday. Mary and Holly Wish it was.

Speaker 1:

Sunday Good morning, it's 6.09. It's a foggy morning and Holly's not being very nice at all.

Speaker 2:

Well, you're asking to do things that are inappropriate at work. What? Trying to get me to run out of here?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly, I ain't going anywhere. Yeah, well, you need to. I'll get in trouble if I do, because it's foggy outside and you come in here saying no big deal uh, what?

Speaker 2:

no, I said whoa, you said you missed the turn. Yeah, I almost missed the turn coming into the station yeah, how did you miss? It's very foggy, yeah it's just, it was just foggy and thick, and usually I look for the billboard to like know where to turn. And the billboard was fogged over, yeah, so it was hard for me to find where to pull in, but I found it.

Speaker 1:

So we do have a dense fog advisory. Oh goodness, oh wow, I guess it really is thick, I guess, so do be careful. Dense fog advisory till about eight. And despite the holiday not being very nice this morning, we're going to continue to move on I'm very nice, yeah every morning fog will lift about eight or so.

Speaker 1:

Then it's going to be a partly sunny day, slight chance of a shower. I'm so sick of the rain, but I hate to even bring up what rain we've seen after looking at the footage over the weekend, because what we've seen does not even ever come close to comparing what the folks in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas have seen over the past 3, four, five days Unbelievable, it's horrible. Looking at what happened. Here's the most amazing thing about this.

Speaker 1:

When this storm started back about a week ago, it was unorganized out in the Gulf. They weren't even sure it was going to form into a hurricane. At one point they thought it might be a hurricane, we don't know. Then it did. Then it turned into one of the biggest hurricanes as far as size of all time. And then Florida, yes, got a lot of damage, Georgia, but the Carolinas that's not even where the storm came ashore. I know they got really the worst part of it and all it was not all it was but the rain and the flooding Unbelievable. And but the rain and the flooding unbelievable. And it wasn't even where the storm had come ashore.

Speaker 2:

I know it's crazy.

Speaker 1:

That amazes me.

Speaker 2:

The pictures I've seen on Facebook are devastating.

Speaker 1:

They're calling it like biblical proportions, a storm you might see once in a lifetime.

Speaker 2:

I saw that.

Speaker 1:

It's going to take people, some people. It's gone, Everything's gone.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, gone Well, including 90 lives. It's awful taking the lives of 90 people.

Speaker 1:

And then there's a ton of people still missing that they don't know where they are and there's another storm, uh, building in the gulf, kind of the same way the last one did. That could form into something. Then there's another one way back out in the atlantic that, coming off the coast of africa, that could form into another one. So just say, well, this has not been a very bad hurricane season. After all, it turns into one of the worst hurricane seasons, with maybe a couple more on the way.

Speaker 2:

Well, the one that I saw posted on Facebook that was coming up this way, has us in the danger zone. Not like you know, we're not going to get the hurricane, but we're going to get the bad weather off of it, possibly tornadoes.

Speaker 1:

And you've seen now what that can do. Oh yeah, if you're on the right side of the, you know the west side is where we were on the last one, which we got. Very well, we got some rain, but the wind was the worst thing of it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean the wind Friday night at the high school football games unbelievable.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I know, I know. I didn't go to Albertville. I went to Douglas because Harlow does mini-me cheer, yeah and they. It started raining like halfway through the introductions, sure, and the rain was blowing sideways. It was horrible.

Speaker 1:

And then Saturday, more wind, rain off and on because the NAMIs, the Northeast Alabama Marching Invitational. I had a chance to emcee that Great band from all across the state and from Georgia, and it was kind of windy, though the wind never died down.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I bet it blew those flags.

Speaker 1:

It had a tough time with those it did. It had a tough time with the flags, but anyway, the weather is getting much better. This week We'll give you all the details on the weather and we've got a very busy day, a lot of stuff going on. We'll be announcing our Teacher of the Week, our Healthcare Hero of the Week, coming up at 17. I think we're going to call both winners also, Congratulate them Also. We'll be talking about that as well as something special happening today, not alone. You're going to hear us talk about that a lot over the next month Helping, support, foster children from across the area, and there's many things you can do. And today it kicks off and we'll be. I think Jonathan will be joining us later this morning.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he will. And this week we're asking for duffel bags. So, literally, like we do with Wolfstock, how you bring dog food into the station, just bring us some duffel bags and we'll put them in the back and save them up for Jonathan to come get and take to the foster children. And you might wonder, why duffel bags? Why is that important? Well, when kids come in in the middle of the night, they are forced to just get the bare necessities from their homes and they're a lot of times left without food or comfort items, hygiene items, and they're carrying their things in a trash bag. And we're trying to give them a little bit more dignity, sure, and pride, by giving them a duffel bag so they don't have to carry their stuff in a trash bag. No, no, kid deserves that no, thank you, tara.

Speaker 1:

Sister station power 107.5. They're spearheading this event, so we're we're having out the best we can, so we'll be giving you more details on how you can help in a few minutes. How do you know other things you need to know? Can you believe today is the last day of the month? No, I really can't september is over after today, so monday, september 30th. What is going on today?

Speaker 2:

today is national chewing gum day. I love gum yeah, I do for like 10 minutes yeah and then I heard some jaws.

Speaker 1:

I tell the gun, this most disappointing is when you get the blow pops. Oh yeah, then you get to finally get down to the gum. It is good for about the first three minutes.

Speaker 2:

I actually had a blow pop Friday night Harlow brought some candy and no Saturday night and I had a grape one. Friday night Harlow brought some candy in no Saturday night and I had a grape one and it was really good it was really good.

Speaker 1:

But I tell you, the chewing gum goes away the taste in about three minutes.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the best part is when you crunch the sucker into the chewing gum.

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's good, that's the best part. So what about chewing gum day?

Speaker 2:

23% of Americans chew gum each day.

Speaker 1:

No, 23% of Americans chew gum each day. No, I don't. I don't chew gum each day. Very rarely do I chew gum, yeah it kind of hurts my teeth. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

The most popular brands of chewing gum are Wrigley's Double Mint, okay, orbit I love Orbit gum and Icebreakers Love the Icebreaker gum. Do you?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

And Juicy Fruit.

Speaker 1:

I like the had Juicy Fruit or Big Red or Dentine in her purse at church.

Speaker 2:

I'd have to go with the Big Red if those were my options.

Speaker 1:

Because her purse always smelled like she gave you a Kleenex or something. It smelled like chewing gum.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and especially at church, the little old ladies always have them at church.

Speaker 1:

They have to because they want the kids to be quiet. I know, quit moving around and be still.

Speaker 2:

I know Hush Well. Ryan Seacrest is officially on Wheel of Fortune. He's been given the show a big ratings. Win Ratings went up. Yeah, yeah, I was wondering how this was going to do.

Speaker 1:

Do you think many tuned in to see how he would do as host or did they because they like him? I was curious, the first show, to see how he would do replacing Pat Sajak.

Speaker 2:

So I don't necessarily consider myself a big fan of Ryan.

Speaker 1:

Seacrest, he's good, he does what he does. He does well.

Speaker 2:

But I wanted to see how the show dynamic changed. Yeah, so yeah, I tuned in. I was part of that. During the season 41 premiere week ending September 15th, will Fortune saw its largest premiere week audience in five years, and his debut episode on September 9th was the game show's highest rating season premiere audience since 2015. True, with over 9 million viewers, I believe that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I watched it A lot of curiosity. Yeah, people were curious how would he do?

Speaker 2:

Well, and also I heard rumors that him and Vanna White didn't get along, so I wanted to see how they acted.

Speaker 1:

There's another rumor coming out saying that she's admitted that the show doesn't need me anymore. It is so the technology she says I'm used to. She had to turn the letters.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Now she don't even have to touch them. She basically gets her hand close to the letter and it lights up. So she I would say one year and done.

Speaker 2:

Really I think so because she's really like, she's understanding that show doesn't need me I mean yeah, but I wouldn't care she is part of real fortune, though, like if it's paying me a million dollars a year.

Speaker 1:

Whatever she makes, I wouldn't care if they need me or not. I'm coming into work, I'm going.

Speaker 2:

There's my check. I'm gonna stand in front of those blue letters. I don't.

Speaker 1:

I'm a little disappointed in you before we move on.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Disappointed. Okay, I thought more of you. I thought that if you have a chewing gum story here, you might have some chewing gum humor.

Speaker 2:

Oh well, hold on just a minute. I'm afraid you've let the entire listening audience down.

Speaker 1:

Buckle up. I think you ran into a chewing gum, or rather a joke fan, over the weekend.

Speaker 2:

That you'll tell more about later. Yes, I'll tell more about that later, about 720.

Speaker 1:

So do you have chewing gum jokes or not?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I do, of course, I do All right, we're ready.

Speaker 1:

then All right, All right all right, all right, all right Okay.

Speaker 2:

What's the difference between a school teacher and a train? I have no idea. The teacher says spit out your gum, but the train says choo-choo. Oh, that's horrible.

Speaker 1:

Don't laugh at that, stop stop. You're on fire. Stop laughing. No, that's good, that's horrible.

Speaker 2:

That's good, all right. What is a scientist's favorite flavor of gum?

Speaker 1:

A scientist's favorite flavor of gum oh no idea, I don't either.

Speaker 2:

It gun, oh no idea, I don't either. It's an experiment, experiment, all right. What a beast you what?

Speaker 1:

what the bees chew, I don't know bumble gum don't laugh at that. That's horrible. I know those are terrible. It is horrible.

Speaker 2:

You must have had a long weekend I did, speaking of things that are horrible. So over the weekend I found out something amazing.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay, what'd you find out?

Speaker 2:

You look at the word gullible on a piece of paper and then if you turn it upside down, it looks just like a cat.

Speaker 1:

Okay, let me look at it here.

Speaker 2:

No it doesn't.

Speaker 1:

Well, don't be so gullible, oh so it does See, that's better than all your chewing gum jugs stuck together Yep, yep. 619.

Speaker 3:

Mornings with Barry and Holly here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

And, since you've been gone, a lot of stuff. The biggest story we're talking early about Hurricane Helene, and I think the latest total is over 90 people.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so we talked about this earlier, but Hurricane Helene caused what they're calling biblical devastation in five southeastern states 90 deaths along the widespread flooding, power outages and damaged infrastructure. Many people are still unaccounted for.

Speaker 1:

And there's some towns, especially in the Carolinas, saying that they will never be the same. It would be almost impossible to rebuild.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And Asheville is one of the hardest hit, and it's still unbelievable that the hurricane did not come ashore in Carolina. But they're seeing some of the worst damage.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, so that just shows you in the future, when storms do come ashore.

Speaker 1:

just watch the weather closely Because if you're on like the east side of the storm, you could see damage like this. You could, depending on the strength of the storm.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you could. I've got some sad news. British actress named Maggie Smith who was in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, she passed away early Friday morning at the age of 89.

Speaker 1:

She was in a ton of movies, I remember her mostly from. Harry Potter, because the kids always had Harry Potter on. Yeah, and she's just a great actress.

Speaker 2:

This is like the fourth. I think the fourth Harry Potter character that's died I may be wrong on that Could be Severus Snape, Dumbledore, hagrid and Maggie Smith.

Speaker 1:

Oh now, Okay. Yeah, she was a good actress. I loved her work. Oh yeah, I did too. Never saw Downton Abbey, but I loved Harry Potter movies.

Speaker 2:

I didn't like Downton Abbey. I tried to watch it, but I just couldn't get involved. Okay, all right, so you've heard the rumors. The rumors are true. Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady in the Brady Bunch, brady Bunch.

Speaker 3:

Uh-huh, here's the story.

Speaker 1:

Did you used to sing this song when Larry runs? I know it's early before your time, but yeah.

Speaker 2:

I watched this at Nick at Night. Yeah, Do you remember Nick at Night? I do. I love Nick at Night, yeah, so the rumors you're saying there? Greg Brady in the Brady Bunch spilled some details about the classic sitcom in a recent interview and he said we all hooked up with each other at some point.

Speaker 4:

Wow.

Speaker 2:

He said, in some cases things even went further.

Speaker 4:

Oh goodness, Big tell.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, okay, he said I dated Maureen McCormick. That was Marsha. Yeah, yeah, right.

Speaker 1:

Yep Marsha Right.

Speaker 2:

And Chris Knott dated Eve Plum, and Michael Lookinlan and Susan Olsen even had a little mock wedding at one point, bobby and Cindy.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, bobby and Cindy. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2:

Marsha, marsha, marsha, yep, they hooked up Wow.

Speaker 1:

Just a big old party and Barry also said that at one point he always had a crush on mom Florence Henderson. He leaned in for a kiss and he said she was nice enough to give me the kiss.

Speaker 2:

That's as far as it went.

Speaker 1:

He said that part was true.

Speaker 2:

So he had a crush on what was the mom's name.

Speaker 1:

Florence Henderson.

Speaker 2:

What was her name in the? Alice was the maid.

Speaker 1:

Who did she hook up with? We don't know, sam the.

Speaker 2:

Butcher yes.

Speaker 1:

I can see that.

Speaker 2:

Carol.

Speaker 1:

So what about Tiger the Dog?

Speaker 2:

Tiger the Dog.

Speaker 1:

Did he have a hook up? No, I'm just curious, everybody else was busy.

Speaker 2:

I have to be honest, I didn't know. There there was a dog.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

I didn't know. There was a dog.

Speaker 1:

Look at Brady Bunch Dog.

Speaker 2:

Brady Bunch Dog. Okay, because there was always a rumor saying Tiger. Yeah, there was always a rumor.

Speaker 1:

The tiger got killed running across the road. One day.

Speaker 2:

No, it is true. It is true, the original and died of his injuries before the fourth episode, but a replacement lookalike was found. It's not a rumor, it's true. That's awful. I remember Tiger. Okay, I had to go and look at the photos. Yeah, yeah, I remember this. I just didn't know his name.

Speaker 1:

I just didn't know if he had a hookup. Everybody else was busy.

Speaker 2:

Maybe Alice.

Speaker 1:

Wow, makes you want to go back and watch the show, alice. So that was a talk, maybe oh, my goodness, I don't know or was it Marsha Marsha, marsha, marsha, you don't know what things are.

Speaker 2:

It's all you ever hear. No, you don't know what people are into these days. There we go.

Speaker 1:

Well, now we know it's 629.

Speaker 3:

Mary and Holly on Alabama's Country, Giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

A lot of rescues saving lives, a lot of heroes stepped up. But how about the weather guy, a Fox weather meteorologist in Atlanta that helped rescue a woman from a car?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, this is crazy.

Speaker 1:

His name is Bob Van Dillon. He was doing a live hit from Atlanta around 7 o'clock back over the weekend and there's widespread flooding where he was at. Behind him there's like you can see the flooding and there's a uh, you can see the flooding and there's a vehicle that got caught in the rising creek bed in the background. That's when he was interrupted by the woman's cries for help. Now here's. Here he is. He's doing a live break and he can. You can listen. You can hear her in the background populated area right here.

Speaker 3:

Uh, she is still screaming, but we got you. We got you 9-1. They're coming, you're good, you're good. Oh man, it's a situation. We will get back to you in a little bit. I'm going to go see if I can help this lady out a little bit more. You guys, I'll be back.

Speaker 1:

And he does.

Speaker 6:

And has got to go help him.

Speaker 4:

Bob Van Dillon.

Speaker 3:

Fox Weather's Bob Van Dillon saved a woman trapped in a car. Wow, look at that.

Speaker 2:

Oh, he carries her.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, then it cuts, and shows him he goes to the car. Join us coming up.

Speaker 1:

It's amazing because he could hear her At the moment. The car was fine, she looked like everything was going to be okay. Then he could hear sirens coming like they were coming to help her. But then the sirens went away. He said he thought, okay, I've got to do something because I don't think they're coming. So, he put his microphone down and walked around the bed and walked out into the water about chest deep, and this is water that's running, which you've always been told don't do this. But he said, I have no choice.

Speaker 1:

I was afraid the car may be pushed further down the stream and she would be killed.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, oh my gosh. And by the time he that's so scary it is.

Speaker 1:

So check out the video on our Facebook page, because we've talked about some of the weathermen, on how a lot of them, when the hurricanes are coming in, like the Jim Cantories of the world, they love to get out there, usually in a safe spot, and just let the cameras show them out there being brave as they think they are, yeah, showing the hurricane winds pound them, which we've always thought. Someday something's going to happen. There's going to blow a piece of debris and it's going to kill somebody. Oh, while they're doing this, so this guy, while he's doing this, one break, instead of just saying okay, I'm not gonna let the experts you know, the first responders do this, he put his microphone down and went and rescued her that the world needs warm people like that.

Speaker 1:

so he is a hero and people are praising the weatherman, saying his actions could have saved her life. He did something that not many would have done. They would have stayed there with the camera and just kept getting a shot of her, a video of her, but instead he went out there and did it.

Speaker 5:

That's so good. So that's good stuff.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it is, check it out hey, coming up in a few minutes. A lot, a lot of talk about this song. Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood have a duet. I'm going to love you. A lot of talk on TikTok. You may have seen pieces of it or heard pieces of it. It has been released and we're going to play it for you coming up. It's our future hit. Coming up in a few minutes here on QSB, wqsb Mornings with Barry and Holly. What else is going on? Well, the Wild Robot, hey, the Wild Robot. Hey, hearing a lot of good reviews on the Wild Robot. They're calling it one of the best animated movies in years. Have you seen the trailer? No, I haven't.

Speaker 1:

Check it out. It's a really good movie, they say, and it had a huge weekend.

Speaker 2:

Is it for kids?

Speaker 1:

Yes, it is. Well it soared to the top of the box office charts, I bet if you see the trailerice Beetlejuice, I think Well, it brought in $35 million this weekend.

Speaker 2:

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brought in $16 million and Transformers 1 brought in $9.3 million.

Speaker 1:

Now you're excited. This weekend the new the Joker movie comes out. Oh, I'm so excited. Yes, so it's part two with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Yes, mixed reviews saying it's an unusual movie. It combines a lot of music.

Speaker 2:

Okay, but I like weird movies, yeah, and I like music.

Speaker 1:

This may be for you I may love it.

Speaker 2:

I just cannot wait to watch the chaos unfold, because they look crazy.

Speaker 1:

They do. They look crazy. So the reviews are mixed. Are you going to love it or are you going to hate it? Yep, it starts this weekend.

Speaker 2:

Well, super sad news. Chris Christopherson, country music icon and celebrated Hollywood actor, died on Saturday at the age of 88. It's so sad. Christopherson died peacefully at his home in Maui while surrounded by his family. He made his mark in Hollywood, starring with Barbara Strassand in the 1976 movie A Star is Born.

Speaker 1:

I want to watch that. I've never seen that one. I've seen the latest one with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Speaker 2:

Is it the same movie? Same movie? Oh okay, Basically the same type storyline Depressing type storyline. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

But still I want to see this one because I like Chris Tarverson. He's a great songwriter.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he is. Who else Todd?

Speaker 1:

The lady Maggie Smith. Maggie Smith. Yeah, so we're waiting on one more, because Death's Coming 3. I'm afraid it does it does so.

Speaker 2:

We're waiting on one more. I hope not. Who's it?

Speaker 1:

going to be. Don't look at me, who's it going to be? I'm not famous.

Speaker 2:

No, DC Studios is reportedly developing a feature film starring two iconic Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke.

Speaker 1:

I think Bane is the one that broke Batman's back in one of the comics.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he's the one with the grape on his face? Yeah, but I don't know Deathstroke.

Speaker 1:

Not familiar with Deathstroke.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Not familiar with Deathstroke. Yeah Anyway, DC's successful track record is showcasing villains is evident with the Oscar-winning Joker film and the positive reception of the Penguin series on Max.

Speaker 1:

That is weird how some of the bad guys' movies do better than some of the good guys'.

Speaker 2:

I know, but I like the Joker I like it.

Speaker 1:

I do too. I like the Joker.

Speaker 2:

I do, and Chucky, a series based on the serial killer doll in Child's Play movies, will not be renewed for a fourth season. Why?

Speaker 1:

Thank you. We've had enough of Chucky. That's one that I never could get into. No, because you're looking at a little doll that's about knee high. I always thought I'd just kick him and put him in the closet.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I had a friend, though it came out when he was like I don't know four or five. Chucky did, and he's literally to this day a six foot four, probably 250 pound grown man. Terrified of Chucky, come on, terrified.

Speaker 1:

Why.

Speaker 2:

Because he watched it when he was little and then his mama got him a doll.

Speaker 1:

That's cruel. Why would she do that? She put it under the covers and he'd wake up next to it. Yeah, she really did.

Speaker 2:

She really did buy him the doll and gave it to him. I'd get her back. I don't know why you would do that, don't do that to your child.

Speaker 1:

That is cruel.

Speaker 2:

I was like man, are you okay?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that is cruel.

Speaker 2:

Yep. And then Hilary Swank has joined the cast of Yellow Jackets for season three.

Speaker 1:

That's a good show.

Speaker 2:

I've never watched it.

Speaker 1:

Very good show, All right. 653, birthdays are next.

Speaker 3:

Mornings with Barry and Hall here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

And it's time for the quote, the quote of the day. You know I was noticing. Friday we asked you to comment on something that you like about the morning show, things that we might have said, and a lot of people love the quotes and we were glad you do, because we try to pick out something that might maybe lift you up, maybe inspire you, sometimes make you laugh, make you smile. And, by the way, our podcast winner from friday is amanda lewis now amanda, actually, she uh made a comment about a. It was a morning show, there's morning show.

Speaker 1:

We were what national morning show day was on friday, yeah we asked you to tell us something you like about the morning show. Then we selected one name random drawing, and amanda lewis.

Speaker 2:

Her name was pulled out and she wins a barry and holly morning show t-shirt and I've already messaged her, got her shirt sized and she'll be ready to pick it up.

Speaker 1:

So don't forget to comment on our podcast later today. After we finish this show, you'll have a chance to win tomorrow. So what is the quote of the day?

Speaker 2:

The quote is true friends aren't the ones who make your problems disappear. They're the ones who won't disappear when you're facing problems.

Speaker 1:

I like that, because sometimes you just need somebody to talk to.

Speaker 2:

This hits home because I've been going through a tough season lately and I have reached out to friends and haven't gotten a response. So I really truly know which friends are there for me, and that was that was like a heartbreak to have your friends not support you when you're going through something in a difficult time. But um, the true friends are the ones, like it says, they don't disappear. They're going to be there to help you and hold you up and help you yeah, through it.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes it's just just to listen. Yeah, we're not asking you to fix it. Maybe you don't have an answer either, which I'm not asking you to be a genius just sometimes listen yeah just let me talk to somebody. Yeah, good stuff, all right. 7, 13, mary and holly on alabama's country, giant wqsb looking for reliable insurance that cares about you.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, I'm into this.

Speaker 1:

I like this because I like blackberries. I don't like the seeds, so this one I would hope there's no seeds in the Dr Pepper.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, this would be so good, yes.

Speaker 1:

Coming out in January. It says it's got the regular version and zero sugar, blackberry Dr Pepper. Ah, yes, so we'll have to try out those. It should be out coming up in just a few months. So what else you got?

Tangy Golden Sriracha Doritos.

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

As you're driving into work and school this morning, going back to Bones. It kind of ties in with this story. A man has pled guilty this week to kidnapping a popular chicken named Betty White Betty White the chicken. Then he fed Betty White to a hungry alligator at a wildlife park in Australia. Oh, wow this is awful, peter Smith, he's 58. He was charged with aggravated animal cruelty against the bird. It was a special kind of bird, the silky, is it? Bantam Bantam breed?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think those are expensive.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's like a little pet.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he initially denied responsibility, but people saw him. He's on camera, by the way. It carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Saw him, he's on camera, by the way. It carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison, plus a $25,000 fine. According to documents, he took the chicken out of an enclosure, hid it under his shirt. Boy, that's a brave man, oh my gosh. Would you want to hide a chicken under your shirt?

Speaker 2:

Why is he that dedicated to feeding this chicken to an?

Speaker 1:

alligator. He then walked around the wildlife to where the alligator pen was. Then he fed the chicken to the alligator. He says he just wanted to feed an alligator and watch it eat a chicken. You know there's a lot of things in life I'd like to do, but common sense says don't do it.

Speaker 1:

Those are called intrusive thoughts, and we ignore those, we don't act on them, good Lord, who's sitting at home and saying I have nothing to do, there's nothing on TV, there's nothing. I've seen everything on Netflix. Man, I would love to go to the zoo.

Speaker 2:

You know what I really want to see.

Speaker 1:

Get a pet chicken and throw it to a gator. That would be so much. Who says that?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, I don. I have no words for this one.

Speaker 1:

I can't imagine the people standing around got the kids there. Oh, look at the alligator over there. Don't put your hand over there. It's so mean. What's that guy doing? He's got a chicken under his shirt.

Speaker 2:

You think he just threw it over the fence?

Speaker 1:

It's what they say.

Speaker 2:

Poor Betty Watt the chicken.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, one of the golden girls.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's awful. I can't even picture it. I don't like it either. They're probably kids traumatized there. I know.

Speaker 1:

They were there looking at the gator and then all of a sudden there was chicken plies in and chomp.

Speaker 2:

Oh, it's gone. And it said that it made him happy. It said it made the alligator happy, yeah, happy. Oh, come on, I don't think one chicken.

Speaker 1:

Why can't you just go buy some raw meat from?

Speaker 2:

the grocery store, pop eyes or go to bojangles. Yeah, get some that fried chicken get some that good stuff.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, clog its arteries. Yeah, chicken finger licking it's chicken licking good oh betty white chicken licking. Good, yeah, it's 7.

Speaker 3:

38 mornings with barry and holly and Holly, here on Alabama's country giant WQSB.

Speaker 1:

Something we need to know is stuff. We need knowledge nuggets. Do you have any with you?

Speaker 2:

I've got three of them. The average American ignores their car's check engine light for three months before having it checked. No, no, I mean, as soon as mine turns on, I freak out. Yeah me too, because I'm like, okay, something is going out or has exploded or happened. That's going to cost me thousands of dollars.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, and the longer you let it go, the worse. The condition is yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the only thing that my car has ever turned on, knock on wood everywhere, is the change oil soon and that scared me to death. Yeah, Like right now it dings because I might have went to work for a fluid, I know.

Speaker 1:

See last time my check engine light. Seriously, I have not tightened the gas cap enough, I didn't give it enough turns, Totally serious.

Speaker 2:

And it gave you a check engine light.

Speaker 1:

Let me know that, hey, you didn't tighten your gas cap and I thought I was about to have to walk to work and I thought, oh, my goodness, but no, that was all it was.

Speaker 2:

Well, could you imagine waiting three months?

Speaker 4:

No, no, there's no way, no I think more along the lines of a week. Yeah, that would be me.

Speaker 2:

More dog owners name their pets after Oreos than any other food.

Speaker 4:

I believe that I believe that I've heard a lot of Oreos, a lot of black and white dogs, oreos and cats too, I don't know many animals named after a food.

Speaker 1:

Have you ever had one you named after a food? Old Brussels sprout. Brussels sprout. I had them when I was 10. Old pickled egg over there.

Speaker 2:

I don't think I've ever named one after a food. No, I've had some weird animal pet names, but none that had to do with food. What?

Speaker 4:

about you, Rachel. I guess the weirdest name would be Neva Neva, oh, but most of my pets have been named names like Lucy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4:

Ellie yeah.

Speaker 2:

Drake, my dog is Doug. I like that.

Speaker 1:

What was Neva named after? What's Neva?

Speaker 4:

Well, Tila named her, and it was after one of her grade school teachers had that name.

Speaker 2:

That's so sweet Okay that makes sense. Rachel is the sweetest kid she is, Thank you. According to Google, the instructional video how to unclog a toilet is among the top five searched each week. How to unclog.

Speaker 4:

Each week.

Speaker 2:

That's often. Yeah, how do you unclog a toilet? I wouldn't know, really.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean.

Speaker 2:

I have the suction thing. What's that? The?

Speaker 1:

plunger, the plunger. It is like that yeah, yeah, the plunger, the plunger is the key.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I have the plunger and I know how to use it.

Speaker 1:

I mean I just stab it in there and just keep doing it until the water goes down. That's one of those items If you go to the going to Walmart. And I had one and she said, oh, clogged your toilet up, did you?

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

I just looked at her like, oh why is it my fault? You've been pooping. Maybe it was the kids, Maybe it was the cat got on there.

Speaker 2:

I don't know, maybe you were sticking little army men down the toilet, yeah, hey, listen, one time my toilet got clogged and I tried the plunger it didn't work. Tried Drano it didn't work.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 2:

I know I tried everything, it didn't work. What did?

Speaker 1:

you eat.

Speaker 2:

No, listen, hear me out. The maintenance guy came to help me and took the toilet off of the floor. Came to help me and took the toilet off of the floor. Yeah, and there was a Q-tip lodged sideways in the little hole part I don't know. Yeah, q-tip.

Speaker 4:

Wow, just a Q-tip. Just a Q-tip, stopped it up.

Speaker 2:

So don't flush your Q-tip.

Speaker 1:

No, that's dangerous. Don't swallow one either. Imagine that thing getting hung sideways in your lower area.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they definitely clog. It would be painful. You would need a plunger for yourself. That kind of hurts.

Speaker 1:

You'd be sitting on the plunger. All right, good stuff. Thanks, Holly. 754-e.

Speaker 3:

And Holly On Alabama's Country, Giant WQSD.

Speaker 1:

I don't know how I can handle this. A couple walked into their apartment building. Actually a man did in Virginia. He just wanted to do his laundry in his apartment. He walked into the laundry room and looked and stopped when he saw something lying on top of the washing machine. It was a snake and it was a copperhead on top of the washer and dryer.

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and looking at the picture here, oh my goodness.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

So he quickly walked out and made a phone call or two and got a hold of somebody who eventually called the Virginia Wildlife Management and Control. So when he walked back in there to see what the snake was doing now to be sure it was still there it had moved over a little bit. It was then lying on some of his clothes as if it was just trying to get. Maybe it wanted to do laundry, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

What if it buried itself in his clothes and he didn't see it until it was too late?

Speaker 1:

Exactly what if it had done that? Maybe he put it in the washing machine and gave it in the old spin cycle and it survived. You imagine reaching in and getting it out of the washing machine after it's gone through a complete cycle that it out of the washing machine after it's gone through a complete cycle that unlocks a new fear.

Speaker 1:

It'll be the most unhappy cobra or, excuse me, copperhead you've ever seen. What would you do? There's no way I'd go in the room, especially looking at and seeing a snake is a snake is a snake. I don't care what it is.

Speaker 2:

They're all dangerous to me. I'm not getting close to it.

Speaker 1:

But if I could figure out with a picture and saying, hey, man, that is a copperhead, get away from it, I would panic.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

It could have the entire laundry room forever.

Speaker 2:

You know what I would do.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Local radio announcer got fired and charged for arson.

Speaker 1:

She set her entire apartment on fire.

Speaker 2:

Set her entire apartment of her own on fire.

Speaker 1:

Comment was well, the snake had to go. Is it the me or the snake? So usually about this time, when we tell a story like this hate to even ask, we turn to you and we found out now that one of the most popular things on the show is.

Speaker 2:

The jokes, or the jokes, uh-huh.

Speaker 1:

So do you have any snake bathroom jokes or just snake jokes?

Speaker 2:

period I got some snake jokes Okay, are you ready?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay, let's see what you got.

Speaker 2:

Which shoes does a snake like to wear?

Speaker 1:

Which shoes does a snake like to wear?

Speaker 2:

I have no idea Snickers, snickers, yeah. Okay, what kind of coffee do snakes drink? I don't know, espresso.

Speaker 1:

That was a bad one. That was not good. No, that was good. You're one for two right now.

Speaker 2:

No, that was good. Why did the snake go to school?

Speaker 1:

I don't know.

Speaker 2:

To learn about history.

Speaker 1:

That was pretty good.

Speaker 2:

Thank you. Are you done or do you have?

Speaker 1:

another. That's it, that's it, thank you, take 14.

Speaker 3:

WQSB Mornings with Barry and Holly.

Speaker 1:

Mornings crime story. This is worth getting upset over because I don't think you need to waste salsa. I love salsa. You go to a Mexican restaurant and somebody spills a little salsa you know carelessly dipping with a chip and it can cause a problem at the table. It can. Because don't waste it. In Pennsylvania a man was arrested at a grocery store. He was throwing jars of salsa at customers and employees. Throwing jars, that's dangerous. That could kill somebody.

Speaker 2:

It really could, it really could hurt somebody.

Speaker 1:

Police responded to the call. The report of a man jumping on cars, first of all, he's jumping on cars, oh my God, and he was breaking a vehicle's windshield with a jar. Then the report of the man breaking into the giant grocery store, the litso sacola. Was throwing glass salsa jars at customers inside the store, scattering broken glass all across the floor. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured. Now, one did suffer some minor injuries due to altercation, I'm guessing with probably the glass.

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Or maybe the salsa in the eye. I don't know, because that could burn yeah that would hurt. Yeah, he's charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest. So what do you think of? Why would you throw salsa? What have you got against salsa Of all the things in the store?

Speaker 2:

Of all the things in the store, I can't think of anything heavier that you could throw easily, true Than a can of a jar of salsa.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, a jar, that's the one I wouldn't waste.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I wouldn't either, but I also wouldn't be jumping on the vehicles. What's wrong with this guy?

Speaker 1:

I've got to wonder what led to this. Somewhere along the way, something had to happen.

Speaker 2:

I don't know. I hate to know what he's been through in his life.

Speaker 1:

That's rock bottom when you start jumping on cars and then go inside and throw in salsa. It's time. It's time to cash in. It's time to give it up. Cash in. It's time to cash in your chips.

Speaker 2:

So this first week we're asking for duffel bags and I got on Amazon to look and you can buy a duffel bag anywhere from $10 to $20. Do you all know of anywhere locally that you can buy duffel bags?

Speaker 1:

Let's explain what we're talking about first.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm putting the cart before the horse.

Speaker 1:

Our good friends at Power 107 and 5 are next door neighbors right across the hall. We're all teaming up together, all three of our stations, and we're helping out. Now we'll bring Jonathan in. Jonathan, come on in here, Introduce yourself to the listeners.

Speaker 6:

Hey.

Speaker 1:

I'm Jonathan with Not Alone. And explain what Not Alone is. We've been talking about it off and on for the past week. Explain exactly what we're talking about.

Speaker 6:

So Not Alone stands to reduce the trauma that children experience when entering into foster care. It empowers our foster families and encourages our social workers.

Speaker 1:

And there's a lot. I was asking you and Chris, there's a lot of foster children in this area alone and I was amazed by the number.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, so around 160 is the number of foster kids at a given time in Marshall County. Well, and next to you, I've known Chris for many years.

Speaker 1:

Chris Harrison, chris, good to see you again next to you. I've known Chris for many years.

Speaker 5:

Yes, sir, chris good to see you again, thank you. Thank you, glad to be here, and I'll add to that that around 160 is the average for foster care. But there's also something known as safety plans, which is where it might be a family member that takes a child, or a teacher or someone else that knows them. That's a safe place they can be. They're not technically in foster care, but they're put in that so they don't have to go there. Well, that adds a whole lot more children and not alone will also service people that are going to safety plans as well. So really that number will be even greater than that.

Speaker 1:

Now let's go over. Jonathan and I came up here about a month ago and go over why we feel there's a need for this. So explain that thinking, why we need this.

Speaker 6:

So several people involved in foster care community just realize that there's several gaps for our children. The children are the innocent participants in something that they didn't ask to be a part of. So a lot of times children will enter with only a few things or nothing at all. Sometimes these kids are leaving straight from school and going with a family, and so if we can allow that child to enter into foster care with pride and dignity and provide them a couple outfits, pajamas, shoes, hygiene items, comfort item, this is a hard day for this child. So, however we can stand in the gaps is what Not Alone's wanting to do.

Speaker 2:

And they deserve that. They deserve hygiene items and clothing and things to take with them if they aren't allowed to take what they have. These kids deserve the pride and dignity and it happens.

Speaker 5:

You, you know a lot of the placements. Uh, they're not planned far in advance. It's emergency, and so it may be that a child is literally picked up from school and never goes home again, or for the short term, and so there there's nothing for them. And or if they do get to go home for a few minutes, oftentimes it's grabbing a garbage bag or a shopping bag and that's all they've got. So a duffel bag, right, adds some more dignity to that and something they're going to get to keep. It's going to belong to them no matter where they go. So it just and it may not seem like that makes much of a difference, but it really does, it really does matter.

Speaker 2:

Uh, beyond a garbage bag full of three or four items and what's needed, yeah, after all these things that kids have gone through, they don't deserve to have their personal items carried in a trash bag. That's right.

Speaker 1:

So, starting today and through the month of October, we're going to be collecting different things every week. Like you mentioned, duffel bags, and you're looking up a price on an average d, an average double bag yeah, I was looking up on amazon.

Speaker 2:

It's anywhere from 10 to 20 dollars. You can spend more or less. Um, we are accepting all sizes and you can drop these off at the station right here, because power 107 is in the same building as us, so you can just drop it off at the wqsb and a lot of churches are teaming up and being part of this too right.

Speaker 5:

Yes, it's been awesome already. I know, uh, here at first baptistquerque we have conducted a drive for comfort items. I know LifePoint Church has already done a drive. I'm going to mess up. Haygood Methodist Church has already conducted a drive. Sardis Baptist Church has conducted a drive, solitude is in the middle of theirs now, I think Southside Baptist, and there are others. Honestly, anybody that's listening that would go to their pastor or someone at their church and say, hey, how do we get involved? Tell them to contact us or to go to the website. Jonathan, you'll have to say the website name and we'd love to let them partner in with us, sure.

Speaker 1:

And while you're talking, we'll also be looking for different items every week, right, jonathan?

Speaker 6:

Yes, sir. So as we're stocking our giving room, we'll learn of different needs and they may shift just a little. But the response from the community it's not that our community doesn't care, it's that they don't know. And when they do know, they show up and show out, and we really, really appreciate that. But our website is notalonemcorg and you can go there and learn more about how we plan to stand in the gaps.

Speaker 1:

We've also set up a link on our website too, yeah and you can also go on.

Speaker 2:

If you don't want to go through the process of buying these items, you can go to the website and give a monetary donation. And they'll get what the kids?

Speaker 5:

need. And what's awesome is, even though it doesn't officially launch the organization until tomorrow, october 1st, we've already helped 12 children just in the last couple of weeks in the formation of things where that's how fast situations happen and been able to bless them. And, speaking as a foster parent, I can tell you on that side of it what a blessing it is when you know someone's going to come along on a day that you're going to be scrambling to make things happen and they're going to come along and provide some items that are going to help you on the short end, so you're not trying to make a midnight run somewhere. And then also, the goal is to be able to provide like a meal for that family. Everybody in an emergency could use a meal, and so, oh yeah, we've been on the receiving end of that ourselves, just from friends, before this started, when we got into foster care, and I can tell you it really makes a difference.

Speaker 1:

It does let me ask you, jonathan. We're looking for duffel bags this week, but don't think that you can only bring those by this week if there's other items. While you're out shopping you want to pick up other things. Is there's other items while you're out shopping you want to pick up other things? Is that okay too, just while you're out shopping this week?

Speaker 6:

Yes, sir. So we're providing outfits for children, shoes, hygiene items, comfort items, so whatever, and if there's a special thing that you want that comfort of a child holding that certain stuffed animal at night and knowing that you made a difference in that you don't drop it by as well, gotcha, and we'll be giving the listeners updates each day as we go along on how we're doing as far as the donations yes, and we appreciate your work here and you partnering with us in this we're excited because I know there's a need for this, because there's so many, like chris said, of 160 in this area alone.

Speaker 2:

It's just amazing yeah it's not the kids have, it's not their fault, they're just put into a tough situation yeah, these are kids in our own backyards that need our help, and we have to pull together as a community and help them anything else we need to mention?

Speaker 5:

chris or no, thank you so much for your help and for your willingness to get the word out, and we're thankful for people that are going to respond and know that, uh, that will make a difference in the kids lives, it's going to make a difference in the foster parents lives and it makes the job of the social workers easier. Uh, it's just going to be a help to everybody.

Speaker 1:

Yeah well to keep in mind. You're welcome anytime during the next month. Come by anytime you like to give us a bit of updates. Love to have you in here. All right, right, thanks, chris. Thank you, jonathan. Thank you, all right, it's 841. The big deal, this guy. They had to call a guy but the guy said, hey, it's not dangerous, it's okay. A Florida homeowner. Brian and Kathy, they're in the bathroom and she was looking in the mirror and she looked in the sink and the frog had made a home inside there oh my gosh, they don't know how it got in there, but it's in there.

Speaker 1:

So they called somebody. They said we can remove it. But it's, it's not gonna hurt you, it's just a frog, it's okay. So they decided to let it stay there and they began calling it sink frog, sink frog.

Speaker 2:

Oh no, it's a.

Speaker 1:

Cuban tree frog. It's considered invasive in Florida, so they then bought a large terrarium for sink frog, who by now has become friendly, and it's their pet.

Speaker 2:

And it lives in their sink.

Speaker 1:

Okay, they moved it from the sink to a brand new home. It has a new home okay it's like a terrarium, and so they went from the sink to the home. So this little frog is now, has now has a home little sink frog that would have scared me to death, because she was looking in the mirror at like putting on makeup or something, and right below her stomach there's a little head.

Speaker 2:

Oh, yeah, like I'm telling you's cute, but if it were to happen to me in person I would die.

Speaker 1:

No. I'd crawl out of my skin yeah if you want to see a picture of a stink frog, check out our Facebook page.
